Kona Grill - Richmond
Food was good, noise was acceptable. It was a nice dinner!
Our server was excellent!
We love the Kona grill the food is excellent and the service is always great Good food value!
It was great!
We visited the Kona Grill in Richmond on Saturday night ... just okay. I liked the menu offerings and thought pricing was a good value. I ordered the pot stickers and a new sushi roll they had come out with. The food was again, just okay. I would probably go back for a second try and see if something else on the menu was better. My wife got a chicken salad that she liked.
One thing regarding cleanliness of the restaurant ... inside they have these yellow, umbrella looking things on the ceiling, I think around the sprinklers. They are large and made out of some type of cloth. The one over our table and the other ones I could see were absolutely filthy.
Great restaurant for affordable appetizers and drinks!
Overall great experience at the restaurant especially since it was Valentine’s Day weekend. Food came out at a good pace and had a great taste. Would visit again.
Overall pretty good; was valentines dinner with our kids; was able to satisfy all
food was outstanding, the service was impeccable, but a little noisy but overall
I and my family was very pleased and we will be back
My wife and I went on a Pre-Valentine's day dinner and the service and food was amazing
Such a disappointment. I used Open Table to make a reservation for my husband's birthday. When we arrived the hostess seated us at the first open booth right next to a party of 12. There was hardly enough room for us to try to slide in to our booth. There were MANY other open tables, guess I didn't need a reservation - not a good sign in itself. We asked to move to a quieter table and were moved directly next to an even larger table that was set for at least 20. No one was there yet and the hostess said that party was set to arrive in 30 minutes. After a few minutes discussion we decided to leave and try our luck somewhere else without a reservation. To me, the whole point of making a reservation is so that we can be seated at one of the more desirable tables. Our arrival was not treated as anything other than people walking in off the street. This is our third unpleasant experience at this restaurant. This sealed the deal for us. We will not be returning.
We sat in the main dining room. I had heard the apps in the bar are great for happy hour, but we were too late for it. It took us 10 minutes to get a water and then another 15 to get our drinks. When they brought food they brought out the wrong order so I had to wait while my friends ate for my order to be remade. Mistakes happen, I understand that. The wait staff was not even apologetic about the mix-up. We had to chase the waiter for more drinks. The food was ok. Nothing to rave about. This is not on my list for a relaxing enjoyable night out.
Food was awesome- loved all the appetizers, variety of sushi and entrees. What really made the night was the awesome service. Also loved that the chef came to check on my daughter’s nut allergy. Husband compared it to Disney’s focus on customer experience.
Wonderful night. The food took a little longer to come out that expected but overall it was a great time
Mediterranean flat bread was dry and not very tasty. Pad Thai noodles seemed over cooked and added shrimp weren’t very appetizing.
Service was slow and the soda machine was broken
Normally the food is good and prepared correctly..My experience was awful ..the food wasn’t prepared correctly .. and it seemed to be not fresh..
New Year's eve, so maybe staff didn't want to come to work? Seemed short-staffed. 2 manager types helped out servicing our table. They were trying, but my Sushi was late to the table and not very well made (like a trainee, or someone in a big hurry, put it together). A duplicate drink came to our table by mistake. Nice "free bonus", but speaks to the operational state of the place that night. My wife's entree was obviously sitting under some "warmer" for more than a short while before it got to the table. She took a couple bites and sent it back. Since they did refund her entree without question and the apparent effort level means we will not rule out another try at some point in the future.
Took the family there for dinner on New Years Eve...Good food and company enjoyed by all!
We've spent several New Year's Eve Supper's here and have always enjoyed the food. In years past, we had wait staff who were fun and eager to please knowing it was New Year's Eve. This year was different. The food was outstanding as always. However, it appeared that perhaps they were short staffed. The manager actually took our order. Our drink glasses ran dry. Our wait staff was running full tilt and seemed to have way too many tables. It was a disappointment from that aspect compared to previous years. Would still recommend the restaurant based on the food. The menu has some fabulous new entrees that are delicious. Hopefully, this is a one time staffing glitch.
Eclectic menu that offers something for everyone -- everything from sliders to poke. Wait staff was very friendly and energetic. Our server Sharday was great!!!
Happy Hour Specials! Thats all that must be said. The best!
Loved the happy hour selections and the service was great.
We met some of our Richmond family and also celebrated a grandson’s birthday. Service was very good. Loved sushi tower and tuna entree as well.
Enjoyed the ambience and the food, presentation was excellent, however I feel the entree portions could be a bit more generous given the prices.
Try the avocado egg rolls. They are really good. The main dishes we got were ok, not anything special but not bad. I had the shrimp poke and my husband had the ribs, son had the chicken stir fry.
Horrible customer service. Ceiling was leaking. We had to move ourselves. Manager was there when it happened. Just said sorry. Didn’t help us move. Waitress was absent most of meal. Asked for a box and she never brought it. We saw her in the kitchen licking a spoon. Will not go back again. And the restaurant was not packed. Only a few tables. I guess others have learned.
Love the lettuce wraps and oriental chicken salad. The ambiance is very pleasant, and not noisy at all. Sit on the patio or dine inside.
I was disappointed with the ambience. The decor gives the appearance being dated. The food was good but the presentation was not what it could be. I ordered 2 mixed drinks ( gin-hendricks and tonic). The first drink was excellent but the second drink was not a gin and tonic. I doubt that we will return.
Enjoyed a meal here with new friends. Menu has changed but there are still varieties to chose from. Good service and fresh food. Would recommend.
Our server was amazing. We went for happy hour adn my family and split 4 apps and ordered drinks. We walked away full and happy.
Was a great choice for a surprise birthday party. Will definitely do it again.
Food tasted amazing, but if you’re looking for a larger portion for the price, this place isn’t it. Ordered a Moscow Mule and it tasted bland and watered down. Manager was kind enough to take it off my bill. Our waiter was absolutely amazing (forgot his name, heavyset redhead guy). I will most definitely be back for the sushi and I’ll give the bar another try for happy hour but no more signature cocktails for me. An overall good dining experience!
We had a group of 6 adults, 1 child. Started ordering apps at 6:15. I was not offered an opportunity to order a drink until after 7pm. When the entrees arrived, 5 out of 6 arrived together, except of course a salad for the baby’s mother. The salad did not arrive until everyone else had completed eating. It was very awkward. I’ve eaten here before, but this was a much more disappointing experience. The food was okay, not great.
Dinner was very good and large portion and service was good and very pleasant celebrating my wife’s Birthday.
This has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants. So many others in Short Pump are too loud, too crowded and service levels have declined. Kona is a great exception.
Have been here twice. First time was a few years ago. It was great that time. This time was so so. My wife had lemon garlic shrimp penne which was delicious. I had the flank steak. It was not worth the $20. The steak was extremely tough and overcooked
Mashed potatoes had no flavor. The broccoli was good but tough also. Our waiter was great. It was just before 6 pm so it was quiet. Last time we ate here I had the pad Thai and my wife had the ahi tuna. Both meals were wonderful.
Second time to Kona Grill. I don't live in Richmond, but have gone twice to Kona. I love the food and in an up and coming foodie town that says a lot. Also, I don't get to Richmond often, so the fact I have been twice also says a lot.
Great evening. Excellent service. There are lots of options to cover every diet need whether you're vegan, seafood or meat-centric. The sushi is very good.
