Kona Grill - Gilbert Ratings and Reviews
My husband & I have been to Kona Grill many times for happy hour. It’s a fun spot & good value. We have only had dinner there a few times. We like it for the location, good value and place to meet friends. In my view the dinners have been lacking, though. I don’t like spicy food and most entrees are spicy. It’s on the noisy side. They tout Wednesday Wine Night & yet have either been out of what we wanted or the white wine wasn’t chilled. We had to ask that the vacuuming stop until we had finished dinner. Used dishes & glasses not removed but left on the table during the entire dinner. We will continue to patronize the restaurant for the above mentioned reasons, but because of the detractors I would only rate it as 3 stars.
We always enjoy the food and the service is usually really good. This time the service was significantly slower than usual in terms of time to get food out and drink refills. Which was surprising considering the restaurant was not at all busy until around the time we left. I was also surprised the manager only allowed one complementary Birthday dessert (there were 3 of us with birthdays in our party of 10). Seemed odd given we spent a substantial amount of money overall.
The fondue was excellent however the main course fell short. Large crab shell in the crab béarnaise, the potatoes gratin was bland, just cream and potatoes with a dash of cheese no seasoning and no cheese.
Service was good, just the main course brought the scores down.
Jessica, our server was nice, but never asked if we wanted dessert after our meal.
The Pad thai was salty and the tuna sliders were dry and bland.
I indicated on my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and while we were there, there was no mention of it from the server or restaurant so we could make my mom's birthday a little more special.
Food was good, server was rude. Had to send back my alcoholic drink because it tasted like straight alcohol (might as well drank a bottle of rubbing alcohol) and she didn’t seem very happy about it. She just looked down to the table and said ok, like no offer for something else, no offer to remake it, just ok. She missed writing down an appetizer we ordered and when we got our dinner we asked about it. She blew it off like it was no big deal, no apology, nothing... just “i must have missed it”. My friend ordered a soda with no ice and she brought with full glass of ice. Not a big deal until you had to tell her about the error and then again, no acknowledgment of the mistake and she just grabbed the glass and asked, anything else? Honestly she sort of ruined the mood of our dinner. Whether she was having a bad day or this is her usual attitude, she definitely shouldn’t have been in a customer service role that day. She was even rude to other servers trying to help her.
My husband & I dined at Kona twice recently. We wanted to take advantage of 1/2 price wine on Wednesdays. The 1st time everything was great until the end of the meal when a vacuum cleaner was started up near us. We asked it to be stopped and it was. Odd, but a minor inconvenience.
The 2nd time was with friends , again on a Wednesday. Both couples chose the same wine. Only one bottle was chilled. Really, on the touted wine night? Service on getting our wine was incredibly slow. We all commented on it & mentioned to waiter. He seemed distracted. The second problem was my entree. The waiter assured me the spice in Pad Thai could be toned down. ( like I always get at Thai restaurants). The waiter was wrong and It was too spicy. The waiter should have either known for sure or found out, not assume. I was offered a new dish but after the long delay with the wine, I declined and it became a takeout for my husband.
It’s a great location with good ambiance. We’ve always enjoyed their happy hours so we’ll probably stick with that in the future.
We had a group of 16 on Sunday at noon to celebrate 4 family July birthday's and our server was AMAZING.......we expressed our appreciation and she said she had only been there 2 weeks. Natural at her Job! Food was good, children's meal was impressive. A little pricy for lunch but worth the celebration.
This was our first visit to Kona Grill. We celebrated our anniversary with a delicious meal, great service and ambience. The portions were very generous and we took home lots of food to enjoy the next day. Interesting menu with large variety of choices. Loved the house - baked carrot cake! We will definitely return to try more entrees.
Fqthers day, wasn't very busy yet our server seemed to be in a constant hurry. Neither entre was right when it arrived at the table. We had to send both back. Took along time to get drinks. Better restaurant for lunch or eating in the bar for an afternoon drink/ snack.
Usually good, timely food service and hot meals are the norm at this, one of our favorites in Gilbert. Unfortunately, tonight this was not the case. Lukewarm/cold meals served after an unusually long wait at table. Hopefully this does not become the new norm. :-)
Server was very gracious and apologetic.
Maybe there was an unusual and unexpected crowd for Mother's day evening meal that caught the kitchen staff off-guard?
Not a fan of Kona Grill..their food isnt good at all. Their menu needs a revamping. I ordered a burger..pretty basic I thought and it was not good at all. It had no flavor but did have strands of cilantro in the meat. Who puts strands of cilantro in a burger? It was pretty bad. I wont be dining at Kona Grill again.
