Kona Grill - Denver Ratings and Reviews
We eat at Kona fairly regularly and always have a good experience. We love their sweet chili glazed salmon, fried rice, and seasonal vegetables, as well as their flank steak and sea bass. We can never pass up their delicious pot stickers either. The wait staff is friendly and on top of things. It's a fun and delicious place to go.
I was disappointed in Kona. The table we sat at was so wobbly and broken and my dad politely mentioned it to the waiter several times and he just made jokes about it. The sushi was very mediocre. The appetizer we wanted came with 3 pieces and I asked if we could have it with 4 to accommodate our party of 4, also mentioning we were happy to pay extra and the waiter said the chef would not do that. Overall it was just a little frustrating and not great.
Took somone I was hoping to hire to lunch on 12/18/17. We both ordered the sushi sampler. My guest found a worm/parasite in her peice of tuna sushi. It was disgusting. She brought it to the attention of the waitress who was also totally grossed out. The waitress said she would let the kitchen know and she did. As if the worm in the sushi wasn't bad enough, what happened next is the reason I will never go back to Kona Grill. The hostess appoached us and offered free dessert in manner that implied we were trying to get a free meal. We were not, I had already paid the bill. It was horribly embarrassing and at that point neither of us had an appetite. A simple apology and reassurance the kitchen is supposed to check every peice of tuna before sending it out would have been enough.
After making an OT reservation and making sure to mention wanting a nice table for a close friend’s 50th birthday, we were seated by a table of little kids by the mall door . The waiter, although well meaning, had just had wisdom tooth surgery and couldn’t open his mouth..literally! He had on a very dirty shirt and I was left completely embarrassed. He should not have been able to work at a restaurant. I ordered a small size of the oriental salad and was brought, quite literally, a small soup bowl size of lettuce missing the red peppers, carrots, almonds, etc...so embarrassing! I tried to find the waiter but couldn’t. I finally walked to the front of the restaurant to find someone to help me. I went back to sit down and a young woman came to the table to ask, “ I hear you’re looking for your waiter...what do you need?”..,what???? I need my waiter!!! She took my salad and , when the waiter returned, it was obvious where he had been...smoking!! When I got my salad “returned”, it had a few small slices peppers on top of the same bowl of lettuce. (Photo of $10.50 salad) To avoid further embarrassment, I just ate a few bites having completely lost my appetite. No dessert was ever offered for the birthday, and I couldn’t wait to get out of there. This place used to be a treat...it was a total bust and I will never be back.
Very sweet hostess. I asked for a quite booth and she acknowledged that she was bringing me to the best one. The server had just been sat a large party so I believe a different server took us. I appreciated the team work to accommodate my request. We got the potstickers per the servers suggestion. They're amazing. Picasso roll was also amazing per her suggestion. I love the overall look of the restaurant and it was resonably priced. We will be back!
Service was very good. Sushi and Naruto were fresh and had nice flavor. Next time I would like to try more traditional entrees. Had carrot cake for dessert. It was delicious and huge, easily shareable among 5-6 people. Makes the one at the cheesecake restaurant chain look like a dwarf. Definitely a busy place since it is attached to the Cherry Creek shopping center. So you may want to look else where if you are looking for a quiet, intimate spot.
Kona is usually our go-to place to eat after shopping and is consistently good for an upscale chain restaurant. However, the last few times, the hostess stand has been a complete mess. For a while they were validating parking but tonight they rudely said our server needed to take care of it. We stood in the middle of the restaurant trying to find our server. The service overall was poor while we asked several servers for silverware. We waited over an hour for our food. We’ll probably opt for better options in the area due to declining customer experience. Please train your hostess staff to be courteous and professional!!
Really great ambiance coupled with excellently prepared and presented food! The restaurant staff were also all very approachable and kind when providing advice and recommendations. I'd definitely recommend checking Kona out at least once. I'd say they're worth it.
While the Macadamia Nut Chicken Chopped Salad was very good, I was with a group and there were 7 of us. 5 of the 7 thought their food was just okay. We ordered 3 desserts and one came out a full 15 minutes before the other two so the first dessert was finished before we received the other 2. The NOISE was beyond ridiculous. So noisy I could barely hear the people right next to me and had to keep asking them to repeat themselves. The MUSIC was not even music. All you could hear for the two hours we were there was the bass beat of every song thumping away and it created a dull headache. Don't think I would go again.
This was our first time trying Kona Grill, and I'm sure we'll return. We had a mix of appetizers, and they were all very good. The entree menu provides something for everyone - we had a very mixed order for seven people, from a hamburger at one end of the table to sushi at the other end, and all were happy with their choices. My own choice was a salad, which came lightly dressed, just as I like it (without having to ask). After a slow start, the service was friendly and attentive.
We love the sushi and you had a great idea for fundraising for Hurricane Harvey but you should open up the menu for the items to order to make a donation. The three that were offered were not very appetizing to everyone at the table. The macadamia chicken is one of our favorite meals! The service is always pretty good 😊.
I had been here before and remembered it being pretty good. But I don't know if it was because it was happy hour this time or if something changed, but the sushi was really average at best. The service was great, the patio is really nice, and the drinks were good. But the sushi - not even worth the happy hour price.
