Kona Grill - Dallas Ratings and Reviews
We went for our daughter’s birthday. We have been many times before and always had a good experience. They were out of many items and couldn’t even make her a special birthday drink. She was turning 8 and was quite disappointed. All she wanted was a virgin strawberry daiquiri. They couldn’t do it. I’m not sure we’ll be back any time soon.
The food is still pretty good but they pulled a fast one. A cheap shot. You're looking over the wine list and they approach you with a buy-one-get-one free deal on wine. They bring a list with prices conveniently missing. You find out why when they bring the bill. They basically double the price of the bottle and sell you 2 of them! Been a while since I saw a good ol Brooklyn bait-and-switch! Well it wont happen to us again. At least not there. Lost a customer.
I was looking forward to taking my date to Kona Grill. I was a frequent customer of Kona Grill in Chandler and was excited to introduce my date to this gem. We experienced one disappointment after another. My date ordered his favorite drink, a pina colada. Our waiter said they don't have that drink. We were stunned and sat in silence trying to think of something else. Our waiter missed an opportunity to suggest another drink so we drank water.
We asked about the fresh fish of the day and the waiter didn"t know and left us to ask someone. We ordered the sea bass and macadamia chicken. The sea bass was exceptional; however the chicken was disgusting. It was rubbery, difficult to cut and chew. We sent it back to have it cook longer because it tasted like it was undercooked. The waiter brought the chicken back out and it tasted the same.
The manager came to the table and explained that there was nothing wrong with the chicken. The process of breading the chicken somehow changes the texture. She gave us a dessert on the house. This item needs to be removed from the menu if what we were served was considered typical.
I went to the restroom and found it to be a dump. I've been to gas station rest room that we in better condition. I would think that for a restaurant with these prices there would be upscale restrooms.
We left the rest at 9:45 and had to wrestle our way through a crowd waiting to get into the bar area.
We will try the other Dallas location and not go back to Northpark.
Visited a Kona Grill in Houston and liked it. This experience was less than ideal. The food was okay, nothing special along with the selection of spirits. The ambiance was horrible. Should've guessed, it being in a mall and all but every other restaurant in Northpark is pleasant and somehow manages to mask that they're in a mall. Top that off with an annoying waiter desperately seeking a tip and it was not a very enjoyable experience.
We arrived on time at 6pm. Food was great when it finally came....waiter couldnt find a drink menu. We waited thirty minutes before ordering drinks and ended up just going on the website for drink menu. We waited another 20 minutes after that just to order our meal. By the time the food came.. It was after 7...we had to rush and eat and didn't finish because the movie was about start upstairs at 7:30. Good foid but service was awful.
The food at Kona was not very good at all. It used to be our go to restaurant, now, we're not going back for a long time, if ever. Vegetables were not cooked well, either overcooked or raw. Chicken dish was rubbery and inedible. Wait staff was mediocre at best. Food was ready to be delivered under the heat lamp, but was not delivered for a LONG time. We ordered sushi, but the order was lost and it had to be cancelled. Overall, Kona at North Park has really gone downhill. The friends that introduced me to Kona have also stopped going. They compared Kona to a bad Appleby's. It's a shame that such an incredible restaurant has fallen on such hard times.
Several menu items were unavailable. Food was bland. Server was polite but needs to learn basics of restaurant service, she wouldn't remove used plates until I asked. Then again left plates after dinner, forgot about the table after dinner. Had to get another person to come get or dessert order. Ran out of coffee. A collective restaurant effort to make it for a poor experience.
This was the Northpark Mall location and the food was very good. I had the taco trio (braised kalua pork, caramelized onion, fig [my favorite, and satisfied my sweet tooth], shrimp, asian slaw, roasted tomatillo salsa. tempura black cod, cucumber salsa). My friend had the chicken chili and checkerboard roll ( habanero tuna, avocado, asparagus, tuna, yellowtail, spicy motoyaki sauce).
There was a large sign on the back wall indicating they would be remodeling, which is needed because the booth seats we were shown to were worn and ripped pretty badly. We were surprised since this is an upscale location. The music was a little loud making it difficult to hear conversation, however when I asked that it be lowered they did so.
Would recommend and return.
Disappointed. In the past we have truly enjoyed our food and service but this visit we had very poor service due to poor management. We were seated promptly and a personable young woman introduced us as our server. She then disappeared-- later we we told she also had a group of 35 to serve. Another employee came by almost 15 minutes later, brought drinks and took our order. An hour after arriving we received our food ☹️. The kitchen was out of yellow tail and other items my husband and grandson tried to order. Not a good experience for our family lunch.
Have not been in a while. Decided to try Kona grill again after a movie at North Park.
Wanted to get sushi. Was very disappointed in the quality of the food. Sushi did not taste fresh.
Also, one of the sushi plates looked a mess. It looked almost like someone had touched it or messed it up. Showed the waitress who agreed it was not acceptable. A new one was brought, but by that time we both lost our appetite.
Will just stick to PF Chang at North Park, as it is always consistent. Very disappointed.
Service was terrible from the moment we walked in the door. No, we don't want to squeeze 7 people into a 6 person booth when there are several tables available to be put together. Yet, they squeezed us into a round table by adding a 7th chair. Communication issue between who we gave drink order to and who brought them out. Waitress disappeared for over 15 minutes after we had clearly finished our appetizers and was surprised we wanted to order (we had been at the restaurant at least 45 minutes at this point). Our food order must have been forgotten about because 30 minutes went by before our food came, and I had seen my dish sitting in the window for about 10 minutes before it was delivered (I wish I was exaggerating). Then once clearly done with our dishes, waitress disappeared, and we had to flag down the hostess to have her go find the waitress. Overall, not a great experience unlike all of my other visits. I will go back so they can redeem themselves, but I was extremely disappointed by this.
Mother's Day- so service was busy and slow. Chopped salad is always excellent. Luz is a great server. Husband had the noodle dish and he wasn't crazy about it. Made me kind of angry that the restaurant took advantage of customers today with the dinner ( more expensive) menu at lunch time. We eat here a couple of time a month and didn't appreciate that.
