Kona Grill - Chandler Ratings and Reviews
Family in town so took them to of our favorite places, Kona Grill at Chandler Mall. Unfortunately, self-parking on the weekend is a joke so used valet. Usually a short wait, but sat for about 10 minutes before car taken.
Once inside, reservation quickly found and we were seated. California roll, Macadamia Nut Chicken, Sea Bass, Salmon, Kona Chopped and all sides on point. Our server, who we've had before, was attentive without being overbearing. We'll be back again.
Kona, as usual is consistently good. I almost always get rolls or sashimi, however the menus is diverse enough that there is something for everyone.
This time we were celebrating a birthday; I’ve never had their deserts, and the butter cake is really good.
The only negative, which is out of the control of Kona is parking so get their early as it can be a pain.
I had specified that we were observing a birthday on the reservation, that was lost in the shuffle when we decided to sit out on the patio. The jambalaya was excellent, and my companion's salad was good only after we asked for the dressing that the kitchen had neglected. The pretzel and fondue appetizer was good but needed more smoke in the smoked gouda.
A little uneven, but overall an acceptable meal.
Never again. Just don't get any benefit from this place anymore. I had two different sushi rolls, both were not rolled tight, and fell apart when I picked them up. My wife had the macadamia chicken, and was dry and not much flavor. Waitress was great, but the food was not, and it just seems louder and louder each time you go.
I have had better experiences at the Kona Grill in the past. However, for this trip.. the Sushi was decent but the server was not particularly helpful (we had to send back to get our drinks refilled) and food was slow to appear, despite a fairly sparse attendance in the restaurant. I had the Sea Bass which was better with some soy sauce added but frankly not worth the price (Sea Bass is always a bit pricey). I will give a thumbs up to the atmosphere and the avocado egg rolls.
I absolutely love Kona Grill. I used to frequent the one in Eden Prairie, MN location. Now, I've been to 2 different locations, here in Arizona. My review is the same... fantastic place! Great for a date, solo, or hanging with friends. Always a pleasant experience.
We have enjoyed going to Kona regularly over the past few years. The recent two or three times we have gone, we've noticed a decline in the quality and presentation of the food. The restaurant appeared dirty and not well kept as well. We will be going somewhere else now
Took another couple to dinner to show appreciation for watching our home while we were away.
Menu had lots of options and each diner was happy.
Food was great, but the service wasn't.
The server did not come back to refill our tea or water glasses except just when the meal was served.
There were no salt or pepper shakers on the table and when asked, the server brough a pepper mill, but did not leave it.
One of our guests later wanted to add pepper to her meal, but we could not find the server.
Probably just a bad night for the server - it's a favorite spot for us so we'll go back.
I really love Kona grill. Out of all their locations this one is my favorite! You simply cannot beat the happy hour deals! My go to is the tuna wonton crisps with a frozen margarita, the servers at the bar are also super friendly! I've been there about 20+ times, and now with the intense Arizona heat I valet the car right out front, it's awesome!
Kona is consistently good, and we are glad to have it in our neighborhood. We appreciate that we can order a wide range of food to meet any dietary preference, but still maintain a focus on good sushi. The outdoor patio is still one of the best around, and the happy hour menu is a great value. The service is excellent
Although we had a reservation, we were seated in the crappiest part of the restaurant and in the young child section although we had no kids with us. We asked to move and they accommodated us. There was 3 of us and plenty of booths available but we were sat in a 6-top. Food was good and service was outstanding. Not sure we will be back just based on it being lackluster and many other restaurant choices in the immediate area.
We were there to celebrate a wedding, and it was perfect. Our server, Anali, was right on point. She was very helpful in seeing that our needs were met, in regards to storing the wedding cake and bringing it out in a timely manner, assisting with explanation of the menu items, making us all feel very welcomed and important to her. She was very helpful all around. We refer everyone we know to Kona Grill @ Chandler Fashion.
Ok may be it just wasn't my type of restaurant, if You're into pseudo-asian cuisine you might be ok with the food. I had a cheeseburger, medium ordered, throughly cooked received. The "wraps" I chose turned out to be shrimp/chicken babyfood accompanied by leafs of lettuce. Not bad but ... wraps? Chicken/broccoli stir fry with rice was very good though. Forget the wine list, only cheap supermarket wines available except for the Moet&Chandon Champagne for $98. After all, I would rather not return ... but as I said, maybe it was only the wrong choice for me.
The table was in a bad location (right at the entrance) which cause distractions as everyone interning and exiting the the venue walked by.
Using OpenTable regularly, I'm finding the tables reserved at many restaurants are lower tier tables in the restaurant.
