Kona Grill - Baton Rouge Ratings and Reviews
We went on a Friday night. I had been before but it was hubby’s first time. We ordered a few glasses of wine and the calamari to start. It wasn’t very impressive, but the sauce that came with it was good. Almond pork tenderloin was delicious, along with the bok choy and potatoes underneath it. We were highly disappointed in the Sea Bass. It was cooked well but was the tiniest piece of fish I’ve ever gotten in a $30 entree. Fried rice was was over cooked. Service was prompt and polite, as it almost always is. We would probably go back for the pad Thai, which we took to go.
I enjoyed Kona Grill. The food was great, as always. I was disappointed in the waitstaff. The waitress was training a new person and the trainee was friendly and personable, but the Trainer was not very nice. She was abrupt, disinterested, and not at all friendly or personable. Those of us at the table commented that we hoped that the trainee did not learn from her trainer how to treat customers.
The food (sushi) was wonderful and the service even better. We had reservations and were seated right away, which is amazing on a Friday night. It was happy hour and some people at the bar were very noisy, but other than that we enjoyed our meal and the restaurant very much.
Normal amount of people. We Waited at least 10 minutes before the server took our drink order. Then waited another 10 minutes to get our drinks.(water and sweet tea) server smelled horribly of smoke. Took forever to get refills. Wife ordered a red bull/top shelf and by the time it got to us it was so watered down that I sent it back. Food came out super greasy and luke warm. Very disappointed this time. For the amount of money that we spend at Kona grill I expect a lot better. Server had a curly Mohawk
They have completely changed the menu and dropped our favorite drink, a coconut mojito. The waiter, who smelled awful like strong cigarettes, told us the bartender could not make a mojito? What bar can't make a mojito? They even had mint for another drink on the new menu. My naruto roll was OK - nothing to rave about. It is unlikely that we will go back.
When we walked into the restaurant, there was a horrible smell, which should have been our first sign. Three of us ordered sushi, one ordered stir fry. The sushi was ok, but the portions were very small in comparison to servings at the same price point at other area sushi restaurants. The stir fry dish had 5 very small pieces of meat and the white rice which covered 2/3 of the place was under cooked and had no seasoning. Our total bill was $150 and we all left hungry and disappointed. We presented our concerns to the manager after we paid the bill because we didn't want them to think we were trying to get something for free, but we will not be back and would not recommend Kona Grill to anyone. In her defense, our waitress did a good job.
We got there as scheduled at 8:15, started eating at 9:10, kids were served after us, which is not really convenient because they were hungry and had been waiting for a long time. I ordered a fontain drink but it tasted like chlorine, when I asked to get something else I was proposed sweet tea that was brought 30 minutes later .... so don't go there on a busy night ...
My twin daughters (age 7) and I sat on the patio. I enjoyed the happy hour specials for both food and a glass of wine. The Bama & Wave rolls are outstanding, and the sparkling sake sangria was perfection. The real reason we came was because my girls LOVE it. They each has the chicken satay (grilled chicken on a stick) with edamame, French fries, and the cutest bear made out of an orange. There are so many options for kids, even the pickiest eater would find something to love. We saw many couples and groups of friends, as well as a few other families.
i mean, it's a chain, so you get what you'd expect in that regard. that being said, our server was attentive, friendly, and accurate. booths are comfy & spacious, beer list is so-so, food is a step or two above passable. the patio seating is a nice option. good for what it is.
This was a great way to spend my 3 year anniversary . The service and the food was superb as it always is. Valentine's Day was perfect and Kona did an amazing job of implementing the holiday into service by giving fresh flowers at the door to each couple. Great place & I would recommend it to anyone.
