We were hardly paid attention to at Kona Grill. Took a while to be seated. No menus for a long time. Server ignored drink order. Server never put in our appetizer. Entrees were fine.
Fantastic sushi! Waitress was super friendly but slow.
Food was fabulous and the service and atmosphere was great
We really enjoyed having dinner there. One comment we wanted to make was concerning the severely bent cutlery we were given.
I dined at 2:00 p.m. during Happy Hour. It took about 7 min. for the server to address me: GOOD. It took about 15 min. for the food to arrive: GREAT. The portions were monstrous: GREAT. The prices (1/2 off Happy Hour) were very reasonable: GREAT. The food (sliders, fries, carrot cake) was beautifully prepared, sensibly flavored, enjoyable without condiments, and plentiful: GREAT. Hannah was very polite, pleasant & accommodating: GREAT. I'd return with more company.
Server was so bad, No experience handling big group, bad attitude
Great selection of asian food from various countries. I liked the selection and choices!
Loved the decor, but food & service was lacking. Pot stickers were bland & the tuna sliders were cold, however We enjoyed the Korean chicken. Place has potential just there are too many good restaurants to settle for just o.k.
Lowsy service. Took 10-15 mins for someone to come and take the order. I ordered Kona Calamari & Korean chicken sandwich which was not very great in taste. Chicken sandwich has a very sweet sauce on it.
It's a shame. The food was good and the restaurant looked nice ... but on a Saturday night Kona was only 75% full and too understaffed to effectively run the place.
The wait staff tried hard, but it was not enough...
We had a great time there for a birthday dinner! Our server Alexis was very prompt and courteous all the way!
We had a team lunch meeting at Kona Grill. Making reservations were quick and easy. The staff was helpful and friendly. They allowed us to call in our order ahead of time and have it prepared when we arrived.
The atmosphere and food was delicious. Parking was not so good, but I was able to pay $5 in an adjacent garage.
Wonderful!! Food is exquisite!!!
We took our grandkids for an early dinner and the staff was very accommodating. The kids menu is terrific and our server was so sweet
We will definitely be back!
Service is polite but always just a tiny bit off. This time, our appetizer was forgotten and the soups and entrees all arrived at the same time. The food is consistently good — not amazing, but good. Noise level makes it hard to hold a conversation and enjoy a family dinner. We like the atmosphere and the variety of choices. Everyone can find something they like on the menu.
Our food server, Trent, was very attentive. Food was colorful and filling.
Overall, the food and service we're great. The one reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is because we were provided with multiple plates/etc that were not fully clean.
This was an excellent choice to celebrate my birthday with about 20 friends. There was plenty of room, the food and drinks were on point, and our server, Trent, was excellent. My babe and I plan to return for date nights, etc. We loved everything.
Slow service. Had to ask twice for silverware. Smelled weird and it was extremely loud. Waited an hour for the food and my sushi fell apart cause it wasn’t rolled up properly. It used to be so much better! What happened?
By far the best sushi in DC at the best price. The restaurant is very clean, has great tasting food/drinks/desert, and the service is outstanding. We love going to Kona!
The service was below par and some people liked their food but others were not happy with it.
The food was pretty good, but the service was HORRIBLE. There were 4 adults. One server took our order, someone else brought over our appetizers, she realized we didn't have any small plates, so she said she would be right back with plates, we literally tried to call her or any other server over 5 times, and no one heard us, Finally one of the guests in my party got up to tell her, by this time several minutes had passed and our food was cold, she finally brought them. Then the eventually cleared those dishes, so when our entrees arrived we once again did not have any plates. 3 of us needed plates, she (same one as the first time) left our table and came back with one plate. So we asked for two more, (very clearly) she returned with only 1. We yet again asked for another plate. In addition to this part of our order did not come and we eventually told the first server and he said he would check on it and get it...........he never came back. I think you get the point. Will not be returning. I have to say it is a huge restaurant and many tables were empty for a Saturday evening-
Neat mix of aquatic and sports bar vibe. Tank with fish swimming around! Most of the entrees are seafood.
I love Kona Grill and the food does not disappoint, but the service I received on Friday night was not ideal. I tried to give the hostess the benefit of the doubt, but after making a 7:15pm reservation and being seated at 7:40pm I was a little upset. I am not one to complain because I understand the stress of a busy restaurant, but we had walk ins who were seated before us. There was no structure and it seemed like the staff could not handle a busy night. The food was good, but I would probably decide to go somewhere else next time or order to go.
Great happy hour, generous food portions, everything we tried, from the fish tacos and sliders to the avocado egg rolls and chicken satay, was delicious. Will definitely return. Waitress was very nice and attentive.
We had a really good time. Jordan was an attentive server and seemed genuinely enthusiastic to be there.
Jordan, my waiter was great. Food and drinks were good as well! Will be back
My family LOVED Kona Grill. We will definitely be back and will recommend to others.
We were able to get a large table for our business meeting and the range of food types meant there was something for everyone!
We arrived on a Friday night around 7:00 pm. Restaurant was full of a mix of screaming kids, happy hour millennials, and middle aged and above. Waiter did not show up at our table for a good 7 minutes. He was relieved that we placed our drink and food order at the same time. After serving us our food, he did not return to our table. We had to track him down at the bar to get our check. They were clearly short-staffed.
Excellent atmosphere and exceptional waiter, personable and attentive!
Service and staff was great. Professional but personable as well.
We lucked out and dined when their bottles of wine were half price. Great bargain. Food was quite good. We enjoyed salmon and a Mumbai Bowl. Service was attentive without being rushed.
This was my first dinner at Kona Grill, and it was subpar. I want to be clear that the happy hours and lunches I’ve had there have always been outstanding. Sadly, this was also the first time we introduced friends to Kona and they were not impressed with our choice, which always feels bad, especially on one’s birthday.
We had two servers, I think. The first man was clearly trying to help out, but instead of getting us waters and then taking our drink orders, he tried to take our drink orders, but had no idea what was on tap. It took several visits to the table and a long time for everyone in our party to get drinks. A second server finally brought waters. We didn’t get a chance to order appetizers with our drinks and the servers kept running away as I tried to call attention to our want for apps. We ordered them at the same time as our meals.
Basically, the service wasn’t great even though there was hardly anyone in the restaurant besides patrons at the bar. The sushi rolls two of our friends ordered got “lost” and our entrees came out haphazardly. It was difficult to order drinks throughout the meal and water glasses stayed empty. Curiously, half the table had their glasses refilled at one point, but the empty glasses in the middle of the table were never refilled.
We’ll return for happy hour, but I don’t expect our friends will ever go back.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. All around great choice for dinner.
Uber drivers do have trouble finding it though!
You can’t beat this happy hour! This is the best one that I’ve been to. I was a little skeptical with the $5 sushi rolls on their HH menu but wow was I proven wrong. The food was amazing and the service was so fast! They have so many different options on their regular menu that I will be coming back even if not for HH.
The poke bowls were excellent, but we were shocked at the slippery floor throughout the restaurant. It seemed as if someone had waxed it with something totally wrong; it made it EXTREMELY slippery. Someone is going to fall there. We hope that this is corrected soon. Otherwise we will not be back. The waitress also forgot to bring our edamame before the meal, so it was served with our dinner, which was not what we wanted. We were not very pleased with our experience overall.
I had the lamb which was very muttonny (taste gamey, i.e. not fresh). (I loved the rice and carrots, but the lamb was not good.) The other folks I was hosting at this dinner did not like their food, it wasn't fresh and it was poorly spiced. The napkin which wrapped around the silverware given to one of the people at our table had a lot of long hair on it. Staff was nice.
I haven't been to Kona Grill for a while and was pleasantly surprised. The menu has changed but all the old favorites are still there. The food was good and we tried a few of the new sake's and they were also good.
