We had a reservation for 8 for my daughter’s birthday, having brought her and 5 of her friends Sa to dinner. It was so loud inside that we could barely have a conversation. It took over an hour to get our food and that includes the simple edamame appetizers. The food was so-so at best and the entire group was hungry when we finally left, since no one ate much. Not worth it and will not go back.

The ordering system went down during lunch. Our orders were delayed or missed altogether. We eventually rec'd our food and take away order. We all ate at different times which was difficult.

Overall, I like Kona Grill. My food is normally great but last night it was just alright. Our server was terrible. She had an assistant in training helping her and he was MUCH more attentive than her. She came and checked on us 1 time and we were already finished with our food at that point. My experience was just alright. Not sure if I’m coming back yet.

Had to wait an additional 30 minutes after reservation to be seated and hostess kept promising we were next but this was not the case.
Our waiter was great and the food was good as well. Certainly helped to turn around the experience.

I really enjoy Kona normally, but this Saturday experience was worse than most. For starters, we placed a reservation for 7:45, and didn’t get seated until 8:30. I’m fine if that was a call-ahead situation, but if you’re going to call it a reservation, I want to have a table reserved for the party. Second, our food took over an hour to come out of the kitchen. I understand it was very busy but an hour wait should have an apology, or some sort of compensation for the long wait. Third, one of the menu items that I had ordered stated that it came with one type of cheese, but a bleu cheese was added instead and ruined the salad. Lastly, the music was blasting loud, and it was club music being played at a restaurant. We enjoyed the playlist but when trying to talk, it was excessively loud.

We had a group of 12 and the staff was nice, but not that attentive. No ones drinks were ever re-filled, service was extremely slow and orders were mixed up or wrong. Some of the food was so bad that we sent it back and went somewhere else to eat for those people. They were good about removing the item from the bill, but we really just wanted the right food and for it to be fixed right. I’ll never take another group back to Kona and cancelled future plans. This used to be a great place but not since COVID. They weren’t even that busy so that wasn’t an excuse. I was embarrassed that I had recommended the restaurant and felt terrible that the overall experience was so bad.

The butter cake w/ice cream and raspberry drizzle was SUPERB! The green beans were fresh, delicious and crunchy. The fingerling potatoes could have used some butter and salt. The sushi roll that came with the surf-n-turf was very tasty. The ribeye was thinner than expected but cooked to perfection for my taste. Overall a nice experience. Thank you.

I had the longest piece of hair in my fried rice. The waiter tried to give me a few $5 coupons but the chef comped our bill which made me feel properly accommodated. The food is usually awesome. That was just a terrible mishap. I would give it one more try. Out of all the times we’ve eaten there, that was the 1st issue.

It is so noisy.

There are no paper menus for people with eye issues like my 85 year old grandmother who doesn’t read off of a smart phone. Do not assume people use their phones for everything. Please print a few menus to have handy that or just like paper kid’s menus.

Can I give less than a 1 for a customer satisfaction score? Where do I start? Kona Grill has been a favorite place of ours always, until this past year. After several previous visits with really poor experiences, I find myself in awe that it could get any worse than before.

Our experience started off by stopping into the restaurant at our reservation time slot, only to be told that it would be about 15 minutes before our table would be ready. We waited outside in the courtyard, and as the time passed by I stopped back into the restaurant after not hearing anything for 30 minutes. I was told by the hostess that it would be about 5 minutes more since they were just clearing off a few tables and to watch for a call or text from them to come inside. After another 15 minutes I walked back into the restaurant and waited for the hostess, as she was in a heated discussion with a fellow coworker. They were verbally and visually upset, as they discussed how they were not going to be able to leave early that night since they were so busy. After they finished their conversation, the hostess looked up my information and told me that they were so busy and to please be patient, since the kitchen was backed up.

On previous occasions, I knew if I was ever seated at a table that it would be at least an hour before they would take our order and another hour or more for the food to arrive.

At this time, we walked across the courtyard to Marlows where we were able to order a drink in 5 minutes, seated in 20 minutes, and had our food cooked and delivered within 45 minutes of arriving at the restaurant with no reservations.

I tried to log into Open Table to cancel my reservation as a courtesy, but ironically I couldn’t cancel the reservation since the app said I was already dining. Unfortunately, we were already dining at a different restaurant.

You can’t blame COVID for poor management. Management has ruined this place. BTW.. We were never called for a table

With a reservation we were seated in the main traffic flow area. It took 10 minutes for a server to even acknowledge we were there . Thankfully the server that took us on was great even though it wasn’t his table . Drinks took 20 min to be delivered . Food was over an hour . If it weren’t for the nice server doing his best we would have left . Won’t be back .

Party of 2 with reservation and they seated us at a large table made for 6 during a busy time. Shortly after giving our drink order to the server, a manager approached us and questioned us about why we were at that table and whether we had a reservation. Seemed a bit accusatory in tone as if we had decided to cut line and seat ourselves at the large table. Everything was fine after that, just didn’t like that he approached us first with a tone rather than asking his employee that sat us. So, docked them 1 star overall due to that experience.

Second time at Kona Grill. First time was a dumpster fire but the food was so good we gave it another chance. This time was excellent. Great service, great food and overall wonderful experience. It is very noisy, so not great for conversation, but still doable. It is also extremely popular. Don't think you can walk in unless you are good with a 3 hour wait. Make reservations!!

Update from my 04/25 review. I used to love Kona. Have been 20+ times but yesterday’s experience has turned me off forever. My friend and I were on the patio and the sangria and waters were spilled by the waitress who was standing right next to my friend. Mistakes happen so we didn’t make a big deal of it but needed wipes to wipe ourselves and our things off. We did NOT get drenched (most of it fell on the waitress) or anything but our personal items definitely were sticky from the sangria. She brought a rag that they wipe the tables off with for us to wipe our things/ selves. We ask to move to another table. All else is ok until we get the bill. I was expecting some sort of compensation for the incident earlier. She said she would have to talk to the manager. Why wasn’t the manager informed beforehand?? The manager comes out and says that the waitress’ version of events includes that we didn’t get wet. And there was a “witness”. Funny because nobody else came to see if we were ok or needed anything. No we didn’t get soaked but why were my hands sticky and our things! Why am I going back and forth about what I experienced?? Over a $6 drink? It’s just not good customer service. I have personally spent hundreds of dollars here and brought many friends and family. It literally is the only place I dine at in the Avalon and I live 5 mins away. Eventually the drinks were removed from the bill but this experience alone will make me never come again. And I’m not looking for anything additional, just sharing my horrible experience

The waiter was great and very attentive. He is what made the experience decent vs bad. One our meals was not cooked properly so we had to end it back. Causing my food to get cold as I waited to eat with my guest.i ordered ribeye dinner and my friend orders the filet. The garlic fingerling potatoes are very garlicky which is fine but super dry on the inside . My green beans were basically raw. Both our dinners were over salty. To be such an expensive meal the food was not worth the price. You can get better steaks at longhorns. Don't think I would be back.

Message:The service was behind slow. Took 30 minutes just to get water. Had to ask for refills of water and wine twice before it arrived 20 minutes later. Took more than 30 minutes to get our meals. Had to ask for separate checks and they were incorrect 3 times. Was charged for a bottle of Fiji water we did not ask for. It then took 30 minutes to pay our bill because the computer system shut down. For a $150 plus meal for 4 pe ople it was not acceptable nor enjoyable.

The food was okay, but they used way too much vinegar on their sashimi. Vinegar can overpower other more delicate flavors. They may be showcasing the sauce, but I wasn’t a fan. The sushi and salad was a good combination.

My wife and myself were seated within 10 minutes of reservation time. Enjoyed small plate appetizers and stir fry. My wife shared appetizers and a terrific chopped salad. Jasmine was our hostess on her first night w/o supervision- delightful and helpful. She will be asked for by regular diners who live in the area. If anything was off, the stir fry chef had a healthy hand with the red chili flakes. You will love that dish if you live for hot heat in a meal otherwise; ask for a lite hand on the hot pepper. All in , we had a terrific time and good eats.

We were there with 5 children and had to wait 43 min before a server came after I asked for one twice. I don’t mind waiting but the kid were hungry and kept asking for food.

Our server was very alert and friendly. My ribeye was cooked exactly to my specifications. We really liked their wine choices. The lemon grass clam chowder wasn't what I expected. We ate outside during the evening, so that we could view the colorful water spewing from the fountain. We will surely go again, maybe to attend after a movie or shopping.

Music volume is high and it make patrons to speak louder.
Value of meals are about 20% higher from similar restaurant with same food options.
Flavor and food presentation is very good.
