Kona Grill - Alpharetta
Got there for my reservation, and hostess said she could seat us right away. Stepped to the side and waited for about ten minutes. Got back in line and went to the hostess again to remind her we were still standing there. She had forgotten.
Finally get seated and waited 15 mins before a server ever made it to the table. Ordered our drinks and food altogether at that time.
I ordered the chicken stir fry. Got shrimp stir fry. My wife ordered sushi sampler and another sushi roll. She waited over an hour to get the sushi. I had clearly finished eating even after sending back my food.
The clear disregard for someone making a reservation here is appalling. It was a Wednesday night and they were not overly busy. I just don’t see the value here. I expected more for the setting and price.
It’s a shame that this place can’t get its act together with service. Ambiance is so nice, food is always tasty, but the service is horrible! I have frequented this restaurant at least a dozen times since they opened, and have been disappointed all but one time with service.
Server attentiveness was poor, we were billed for an appetizer we didn’t order, water glasses not replenished when empty unless he was flagged down, missing utensils when food was served, took over 45 minutes for the appetizer to come out when all tables around us that ordered after us had drinks, appetizers, and their main meal. He was friendly and kept apologizing but that only goes so far. Train your employees better!
Also the chairs at the 4 tops on the bar side are needing new cushions. Very uncomfortable. I’ve given up on this place. Too bad.
We enjoy Kona very much! The Happy Hour menu is good food and value. Service is always a problem. Servers don’t seem to know which tables are theirs to provide service. Wait for service is always too long. That said, the bartenders are all great, and especially Morgan!! I wish he worked more often!
Probably the worst service experience I’ve had in years. Two of the entrées came out cold and part of the calamari appetizer was cold as well. The server came by twice within 45 minutes and one of the entrées never even made it out until right before receiving the check when everybody else was done. No chance I would eat here again even if I had a years worth of free food vouchers. Pathetic.
We had to wait 1+ hour for our food - server was doing her best; kitchen must have been all out of order.
Great Hawaii atmosphere! Food was very good with huge portions.
Horrible overpriced and horrible service.
The General Manager was very rude. Will recommend to friends NOT to dine at your Alpharettta, GA facility due to this gentelmen's lack of professionalism and the way he spoke to customers.
Great food!! Service was good but somewhat slow...portion size for the price is small, esp calamari dish was not even 10 pieces
So good! An amazing happy hour with $5 sushi and great margaritas. Sat outside the patio, live music in avalon on a Friday night, what more could you ask for. Awesome!
This was a lunch. I have been for lunch only twice, but many times for dinner. I actually think it's better at lunch. Service and food were spot on.
Kona has been one of our favorite restaurants since it opened at Avalon, but it seems like every time we go now, we get a little more disappointed. Meals come out flat -out wrong (both my kids' meals were totally wrong this last trip - edamame instead of macaroni and cheese, french fries instead of rice - luckily my kids aren't picky and ate them anyway), cocktails are weak and poorly mixed, our wine glasses sit empty for most of dinner. We're told we can't sit outside because there aren't any tables, only to walk by and see several sitting clean and open. We still LOVE the sushi and the salads, and the restaurant is still very cool and a fun atmosphere for date nights, girls' nights out, or even dinner with the kids. I just hope that they can pick the service back up, because that seems like it's really been a struggle for a while now, and the overall enjoyment because of it is very hard to justify, given that this is NOT an inexpensive restaurant.
Great place! Especially for people watching.
Not sure what was going on this particular day but our experience was horrible. Could’ve been due to prom. I don’t know. We’ve always had a great time so I’m hoping this was just a one off night. We had a newer waitress but felt that the issues were more kitchen related. Hard to say. Food was still excellent though wrong entrees were delivered and food was spaced out unevenly. First manager was useless. Second manager was very understanding and helpful.
We had a bit of a bobble with the menu - we were handed a Happy Hour menu but open ordering, found we couldn't order the HH food at our table. Quick talk with the manager fixed things. Our server was brand new, but quite determined to make things great for us. Note that crab sliders are actually whole soft shell crabs - legs and all - on a bun. My husband gamely ate them and liked them. We will try again soon!
Pad Thai is below average
The service was horrible. We had a reservation at 6:45 for 6 people and we didn’t get seated until 7:15. At the end of the meal they said that we could get dessert on the house for waiting so long....1 dessert for 6 people which we thought was a little ridiculous. The free dessert took longer to come out than we waited for our table initially.
The appetizer came after our main but it’s all good the food and service made up for it
We were booked a table outside In the cold where there is no need for reservation and it was very inconvenient since it was windy and we didn’t enjoy our first hour. It seemed unfair to be booked outside when it is meant to be inside. We requested to be moved but had to wait 1 hour to get in.
Totally disappointed... server distracted, bar order mixed up, appetizers and entries ordered, everything came together rather than is stages, ordered umami flatbread, not good.
Very noisy place, we almost had to shout to each other. When asking for the bill we specifically asked for 2 checks. What came was 1 check, and even speaking to the manager didn't bring any solution. When asking for an extra wine glass the waitress came back telling that they were out of wine glasses. I'm 58 years old and have visited hundreds of restaurants in many countries, but this has never happened before, not even in a 7 euro menu restaurant in Spain. The waitress was very unsure and didn't know the food that was being served. A good place to have a beer on the outside terrace, not for eating out.
Wait staff could have been a little more attentive
The food is always great. The service is NEVER good.
My husband and I went out to dinner. We had drinks, an appetizer, and sushi. We were enjoying our evening. Our waitress and manager came by and apologized for the wait. We had not noticed the wait on our sushi until the manager checked in with us. We really appreciated their attention to us. Always great food but the staff that night was very much appreciated.
This is our go-to place in Alpharetta, GA. A happening place, servers always good, smiles on everyone's face. And really good food. This time it was only my wife and I, but great place to bring the entire family and grand kids. They have an awesome kids menu and comes on a cool tray!
Made a reservation and was sat right away, however the lady who came to take our drink order initially never returned. A different guy came up and asked for our drink order and when we told him we already gave our order he said she wasn’t our server and she didn’t relay any order to him. We re ordered our drinks and appetizers and waited. He took our sushi order later and after 10 minutes came back and said the kitchen ran out of tuna. We looked at the menu and re ordered, then he came back 10 minutes later and said that they actually did have enough tuna and made the original rolls that we ordered, and the replacement rolls were also ready. He asked if we wanted all of them, but did not offer for any to be complimentary. Obviously we did not want to pay extra for more food that we only ordered because we were told they were out of what we wanted. After all of that at the end our waiter told us he was never even supposed to be our waiter and that’s why there was confusion at the beginning. Overall it was an expensive meal for mediocre service.
Point out few thing. We are Asian. Gave us chopstick is totally understand. But once we ordered our entree. U think my husband eating steak is using chopstick or gave him a fork is better? The server dont use their eyes to see or pay attention what surrounding them. She probably wont gave us until i ask for it. When im waiting for my entree to come while my husband waiting until my food is ready before he start. The sever is so funny and come and ask me am i missing anything else. Lastly. My husband steak come out welldone instead medium . All these is kinda disappointing.
Kona was an overall great experience. They were ready to take us at our reserved time of 730, the waitress was friendly and attentive, the food was great, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. I would highly recommend Kona.
My wife and I went there for the first time, and the experience was fantastic, from walking in to walking out.
We like Kona Grill - we've been in the past after 9:00pm and they offer a happy hour on select menu items and drinks. When we went this time it was almost 9 when we got to order food but was advised only the non-carpet areas could order the happy hour items. We were in the carpet area and had to pay full price for the same items. That part was disappointing
Service was extremely slow...forgot about us completely twice. I am not very hard to please at restaurants and we have been to Kona a number of times but this time we were very disappointed.
The expectation was high going there for the first time, however I think it will be the last time visiting the place. Our server Peter was very condescending and you could notice on his attitude that we were not welcome in the establishment. We had to remind him on several occasions of our orders in general and the drink in particular. You could see the effort he was making to hide his bigotry and prejudice. After ordering a second meal, my lady asked for a fork, he bluntly told her to use the same one for that different meal. In spite of his poor customer service and prejudice we still left over 20% for his tip in order to morally fight and overcome his bigotry and prejudice. We are all created at God image.
Sea bass was swimming in butter like a low end restaurant.
Celine was our server and did a great job! The food was great! It was prepared perfectly!
Great food as usual - made a reservation to avoid the bar area and still ended up in the bar. High top chairs weren’t stable on their floors - slid around a lot
As soon as we sat down we were asked for drink order. We asked for water first while looking at drink menu. Took 10 minutes for water to arrive. We have the appetizer and drink order, which was 2 beers.
About 10 minutes later the appetizer arrived and it was excellent. Still no beer....5 minutes later still no beer. Finally when we were at least half way through the beer arrived, no apologies from server. We gave our server our order, steak salad and 4 rolls of sushi.
10 minutes later the steak salad arrived...no sushi.
10 minutes still no server or sushi. Another 5+ minutes went by and sushi finally arrived. The person eating the steak salad finally started eating and was still almost done by the time the sushi arrived. Again no apologies.
I have eaten at this restaurant many, many times and never had this experience. Plus this time the quality of the food was not up to par. The sushi was extremely skimpy and not as tasty as in the past.
I will not be going back. Sorry to say after 3 years of being a loyal customer, I am done.
My wife and I really enjoyed our experience at Kona grill. It was just a bit more noisy than I expected. The staff was very courteous, prompt and professional. The entire establishment (of course, we did not tour the kitchen) was extremely well maintained. The food was great. We will visit again.
Already recommended to 2 friends...We had a great time!
Valentines Day dinner was fantastic. Jasmine our waitress allowed us time to enjoy each course and had a great personality as well. Kong Grill has great food and drinks. This has become one of our favorite restaurants to go to. Highly recommended for a great evening out.
