About Kokkari Estiatorio
Kokkari (pronounced “Ko-Kar-ee”) is a small fishing village located on the islands of Samos in the Aegean Sea, whose name is derived from the small onions that were once produced in the nearby fields. Its fertile soil and Mediterranean climate translated into an abundance of fresh produce as well as treasured seafood and game. Legend tells that Kokkari is the site where Orion, a mighty hunter and a young man of gigantic stature and great beauty, fell in love with the daughter of the king of Chios. For the love of her, Orion forged the island for wild game and seafood to prepare elaborate banquets in celebration of their love. Today, we hope you will enjoy your own celebration as you dine at Kokkari Estiatorio on food “fit for the Gods” prepared with an Aegean palate and the style of innovative California fare.

Kokkari Estiatorio Ratings and Reviews
Took some LA friends to Kokkari and we all loved it! The food was amazing - the best lamb chops! The service was friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was great. It was also very easy to park. My friends are still talking about what a great time the had and how the food was fantastic.
This was our last lunch in sf. It was delicious! The waiter was so attentive. The only complaint was the hostess. When I called to let her know we would be a few minutes behind she said she would have to cancel our reservations. It caused us a bit of immediate stress since thi. When we arrived table for two, there was many tables to spare. Why was she stressing us out? I think she was a new hostess learning the system.
We were here for dinner last week and returned for lunch this week, My husband had the lamb skewers (wonderful!) and I had the lentil soup and the lamb meatballs - absolutely delicious. One of the great things about this restaurant is the ordering options - full entrees, appetizers and all sort of wonderful ways to share.
went for our anniversary, we were a little late & had to wait a few minutes for a table. First table we were seated at was not good - noisy & cramped. Asked to be moved & they were v gracious & did so as soon as a booth was available. Service was outstanding, they comped us dessert & food wonderful. Also thought good value even though it is an expensive restaurant. Will definitely go back & recommend!
I took my dear adopted sister to Kokkari to celebrate her birthday. What a wonderful time we had! Our waiter made us feel so special. His recommendations were wonderful. Loved the goat stew and lamb special cooked with lemon. Yum! We talked and talked without feeling interrupted or troubled. Then we selected a dessert to share -- the bread pudding. It came in a dish with Happy Birthday written around the rim and a candle. SO THOUGHTFUL! My Sis was touched. I was a heroine. Life is good when you go to Kokkari with your loved one!!
This is the second time that I have eaten at Kokkari Estiatorio, first time was for a big business meal. This time was on vacation with my wife. The food is always wonderful and consistent. We had an excellent selection of appetizers and very well prepared dinners. My only issue was that the waitress was a little pushy. Otherwise, truly enjoyed the experience and will return next time I visit San Francisco.
My experience at this wonderful Greek cuisine restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. I was stranded in San Francisco during the recent hurricane and was able to have two dinners at this outstanding restaurant. If you have the opportunity to be in San Francisco and don't try Kokkari you are truly missing one of San Francisco's genuine treats!
Was disappointed, heard such great things. Flavor bland nothing exciting. I Had lamb chops, Husband had lamb from rotiss. Potatoes tasted like they'd been cooked for hours and left sitting. Nice wine selections. Salad fresh and nice. For the money though not worth the return.
We were a party of 4 celebrating my sister's birthday. Everything was just perfect! Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable and made the evening a fun and memorable event. For starters we ordered the lamb riblets, smelts, and one of the specials - all very delicious. The entrees were outstanding: I had the lamb skewers (the presentation was incredible). We also ordered the sea bass, goat stew, and the rotissere special -the pork could have served four people. We had 2 desserts, including the bakklava (one of the best ever). My sister's dessert was complimentary and came out with a candle. We were even treated to a demonstration on how they prepared the delicious Greek coffee. We can't wait to go again.
From start to finish, a wonderful experience. They did everything right. It's rare to find a restaurant firing on all cylinders.
Goat Stew - amazing.
Moussaka - amazing.
Wine - perfectly paired.
dessert - surprising and tasty (though i was too full to really enjoy it).
We had a wonderful experience at Kokkari. It will definitely be a spot that we visit each time we are in SF. Our server, Perry, was outstanding. We chose our entree -- an incredible ribeye steak -- and he asked us to trust him in selecting appetizers and salad, even dessert -- to accompany it. Perfect! We enjoyed everything so much.
We'd had several people recommend Kokkari and we're so glad we were able to dine there. Everyone was so friendly.
We LOVED Kokkari! The hummus-variety appetizer is delicious. Kokkari makes their own flatbread and fresh hummus dips. My favorite by far is the eggplant. Definitely want to try the zucchini cakes next time (I think everyone around us ordered it). Their chicken skewer dish was great. I ordered the lunch special which was a pork gyro and I'm not sure if I would get it again as it was not as tender as I expected it to be (for some reason I was envisioning something closer to carnitas-style pork). Please note, I don't eat red meat at all and am very picky about meat products like pork and chicken if I do choose to eat it, so this may not apply to you! Lastly, the fresh homemade pistachio ice cream is amazing!! Will definitely be back.
Food was outstanding. We were the first in our area to order entres but the last of six surrounding tables to be served--more than an hour after we arrived for lunch. The wait staff and management were quite apologetic, explaining that the kitchen had run out of prepared chicken kebabs and had to prepare some more. But really, that's a ridiculous excuse. It's not like we arrived at 1:30. We had a noon reservation and ordered our entres by 12:15--how could they have been out?
Other than the overpricing for their excellent signature dish which consisted of three lamb rib chops with three large pieces of pan fried or oven baked potatoes, all of the entries and other courses served at our table were tasty and priced accordingly. The dining room would have been a little too loud for me but the seating of our party in one of the corners saved the night.
