Koi - Bryant Park Ratings and Reviews
The room is beautiful and the idea of the food is good, but what used to be a good thing feels tired. The hosts set the tone for a mediocre evening by greeting the loudest and most obnoxious guests first, completely disregarding the guests waiting patiently to be greeted and it just continues from there with a waitress who is overtaxed by the number of tables she is handling to servers just rushing the food out and dumping it on the table. It was embarrassing to have chosen this to host a business guest and I chose a different restaurant next time.
Koi is usually one of my favorite restaurants. The food was definitely not as good this time. The crispy rice appetizer tasted like it had been sitting out. It was hard to chew and we got two orders of this because we typically love it. The sushi rolls were kind of bland. Prices are extremely high for sub par food.
Using OpenTable, we were seated almost immediately. The location is right next to Bryant Park, so easy to find. Our waiter was very good about explaining options and portion size. My friend and I split the whitefish and braised short ribs. Perfect size to leave room for the chocolate/banana egg roll. More to try on my next visit for sure.
We went here to celebrate our 5th Anniversary and this place made it more special. Lucky for us, it was a horrible rainstorm day so it was almost empty. The food is amazing. every dish they brought out was better than the last. Just when we thought they couldn't top it, they did. The one thing that stood out to us was the Apple cider sorbet. We wanted apple pie for dessert but it wasn't offered so we ordered the sorbet. The apple sorbet tastes just like apple pie. It blew our minds. We were the last table in the restaurant and didn't feel pressured to leave as they were closing. We left planning the next time we will return. everything was great!
We ordered the Koi Crispy Rice, sushi tacos, Sunfire Roll (my fav), the Duck Breast and Short Ribs Entrees. I substituted the wasabi puree for the potato puree because I don't like spicy foods. It didn't disappoint. I was so full from the sushi i couldn't eat the ribs but it was soo delicious, I made room. I would recommend this place. I want to return already.
Food is very good , Biggest turn off the food is served within 1-2 minutes of ordering , obviously a lot of it sitting around . At least slow down the service so you don’t feel like you are at a fast food establishment ! As far as taste , food was excellent and service was superb !
We went to Koi for our 10th wedding anniversary and it was absolutely perfect!! The staff (ALL of them, including hotel staff as the restaurant is inside the Bryant Park Hotel) were all incredibly attentive and friendly. Our waitress was knowledgeable on the menu and the service was prompt! The food was some of the best we’ve had—try the sun fire roll!!— and the cocktails were delicious as well. It was the perfect evening start to finish and I can’t say enough about this wonderful restaurant. We will most definitely be back!!
The food was delicious but the menu was very confusing, it was difficult to understand the sushi list and sashimi list without indication of the number of pieces or which were which. Also everything was extremely expensive, it was good quality and tasty but don't expect to leave without a minimum of a 100$ bill for two people with a single course.
Also it was extremely annoying that the waiter kept serving water into our glasses even though we hadn't drank anything and kept on leaning over the table. We get it you want us to buy another bottle of water... unprofessional and very distracting.
My friends and I went to Koi this past Saturday night to celebrate our birthdays. Everything was wonderful except I have one tiny complaint--I did not think the music was appropriate for the restaurant. I would suggest something more calming or perhaps in fitting with the theme-Japanese. I would recommend this restaurant to friends etc.
In all fairness, I have to share that we went to Catch the night before we ate at Koi and pretty much any restaurant following that meal was bound to disappoint . And Koi was no exception. We had a very late dinner (after a show) so it was pretty empty. This meant the food for there quickly and staff was attentive. The service was much better than the food. We ordered the crispy rice cakes with Tina and they were good but not great. The tempura spicy shrimp we soggy, and the shrimp was not the best quality. After trying the few apps, we decided to order two more things and cut it short. We shared a spicy tuna roll (just ok) and the miso glazed sea bass. All of it was edible, none of it memorable. The wine was awful.
Not as nice as it used to be. I went to Koi at Bryant Park maybe 5+ years ago and loved it. The ambiance back then was upscale, relaxing, good for dates. We went recently and it's gone downhill. The music didn't fit the ambiance, service was okay but not stellar (our server's cleavage was spilling out of her far-too-unbuttoned shirt), and it just felt a bit sad compared to the version I first experienced years ago.
The location is very nice.
The seafood tempura was good, including salmon, which is a nice touch.
I did not like the dragon roll, which was non-standard, with too much panko crumbs, hot sauce and a white (non seaweed) wrap.
I chose not to order the $21 pot stickers (4 pieces). I know Bryant Park is a pricey part of town, but this was way over the top for me.
The waiter seemed uninterested (and about 10% bothered).
Kinan was an outstanding server! Both an expert on the menu as well as attentive while also possessing impeccable timing. At Koi, everything from the food to the ambiance was excellent! This establishment instantly became our favorite NYC eatery and we plan on returning many times in the future!
We read some reviews beforehand that went against the wonderful experiences we’ve enjoyed at Koi. The food was fantastic, we usually share a bunch of dishes and they were each unique and very tasteful. I would highly recommend Koi as a high end NYC establishment.
I have been coming here you many years and the food is as good as ever. This is one of the most consistently excellent food experiences on NYC. The lobster salad, hamachi, Kobe beef pot stickers are amazing. For entrees the sliced duck Brest and the Black Cod are really outstanding. It's pricy but worth it for a special meal.
