Great food, nice people.
Waitress was very, very nice ( hence the rating) I was the only customer ( late lunch@4:00pm). Tables were clean. Music was awful. Lobster tail was incinerated- texture like rubber and completely dried out)
Vegetable tempura was soggy. The dipping sauce was good. I went to wash my hands as the food was arriving, and soon realized that they did not have any soap in the ladies bathroom. Think about that.
They have great sushi and the love boat entree was perfect for 2 if are not into sushi but still want to be part of the group
Delicious sushi and noodles plus great staff !
We had the veggie tempura appetizer which was excellent. We had the chicken teriyaki for dinner which was also very good.
Nice clean place with great service and food. Ambience was calm and quiet. Great for a date where you can have a conversation without having to shout to one another.
I just love Steve's passion for service and great food.
The service was outstanding. The staff at Kohan were very welcoming and attentive. I was very impressed!
The absolute best Sushi in Chicago!
Amazing food, but the interior does not give a hint of that. Great variety of dishes though!
The people who work at Kohan are the sweetest people you will ever meet. They really care about their customers. When you walk in, they give you some soup on the house too! This is by far one of my favorite restaurants and it's the warming staff and the tasty and beautiful food that do it!!! You would be crazy not to love it!
I've been eating at Kohan since it opened, and I have never been disappointed by the quality of the food or the friendliness of the service. The staff is very kind and always happy make recommendations, encouraging me to try dishes that I might not otherwise order.
Great sushi. This restaurant is tucked away on a cobbled street. Parking is only two dollars in the evening. Excellent.
My boyfriend and I found this place off of Open Table. I was nervous that it was going to be a place full of college kids with mediocre sushi. I am happy to report that my original feelings were incredibly wrong. The staff was so friendly and explained the menu for us. We ordered the shrimp dumplings- SO GOOD-, the W3, and another roll that I can't remember the name of. Our order also came with miso soup which was a nice touch. The food was incredible! My boyfriend also enjoyed trying different Japanese beers, which he thought was a cool experience. I will definitely be going back. Their lunch specials look like an amazing deal, so hopefully I can try one of those soon!
Four of us went to Kohan for my husband's birthday. A few of us wanted sushi and the kids wanted steak habachi. Mr. Kim was very entertaining at the habachi grill, and the filet was great.
We also had the W3! roll - it was literally on fire! and helped the lemon infuse its taste into the roll!
The Bibimbap with kimchee and beef was tasty too.
We will be back, as the service was friendly, and the food preparation was very nice and tasty.
We chose this restaurant by viewing neighborhoods close to United Center on Open Table. The food was excellent and all of the staff we interacted with were friendly and attentive. The street it is located on is very quaint. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. Great find!
Great sushi gem with very pleasant staff and reasonable pricing.
Decent but not great. While the free Korean appetizers were generous, the three different items tasted too similar. A prominent spot on the inside of the menu lists substitutions and their costs, including -$2 if you leave avocado off your sushi roll. I ordered two rolls without avocado, a total of $22, but was informed that this discount only applied to those rolls on that page (not stated, and it's two facing pages of rolls.) I was a bit irked by that. Music was schizophrenic, chairs were a "hip" leather design with torn seat slats. My Faye's kimchi stew was not very authentic in ingredients.
I had sushi the time I went, which was great. What interests me about Kohan even more is that I discovered that Kohan offers a wide selection of Korean food. Korean food is a bit of a rarity in Chicago - at least near downtown - but it is great and Kohan's offerings looked enticing. They even have in-table grills! I'm excited to go back.
The management at the restaurant was so nice and interactive with us. We were able to make a 11:30 pm reservation. The food and service was amazing! This is my new sushi spot.
We ordered a ton of items and everything was super delicious.
We feel like we want to give the restaurant another chance. Food and Service were good, but, there was a private party doing Karaoke and it was tough to have a conversation because it was so loud. Being a Chicago lifer, it was very nice to see how the maxwell street neighborhood has completely transformed. Was good enough to deserve another chance and we certainly will be coming back to a new found neighborhood with a college like vibe.
The food was great and the service was awesome. The house saki was one step from hot tea, but they have quite a few to choose from. I will be back soon.
Food was very disappointing. Went there because it claimed to have Japanese teppan cooking, but they did not cook the food at the table. The tempura was tasteless. Not many customers there, so don't think it is very popular....
