The Koco Modern Caribbean restaurant serves fusion meals inspired from Latin and Caribbean influences. The restaurant's staff is generally congenial. This up class, trendy place offers a fine dining experience. The dining areas are set in an elegant romantic setting with drapes, fairy lights, and dim lighting. The overall Koco Modern Caribbean ambience is relaxed and cheerful.
Koco Modern Caribbean restaurant serves a variety of salads, steaks, burgers, pastas and chicken meals. Customers particularly enjoy the coconut shrimps, the braised pork, the blackened tuna and the grouper mofongo. There is a separate menu for craft tropical cocktails and wine available at the bar. The restaurant also serves desserts. The choco kaco is particularly famous.
The decor of this restaurant is nice, and the food is ok, but I did not really enjoy the experience (except the company I was with). No bread was offered, even when we asked for some and the menu is fairly limited.
Service was decent but the food took forever!!! On thanksgiving, too. Terrible place for dining on thanksgiving
El San Juan hotel is famous for its lobby, which starts the wonderful experience at Koco. Good for couples but big enough for groups and private functions. A party of four we tried guava empanadas for appetizers. We had coconut risotto, churrasco, and snapper fillet. For dessert we had coconut mousse and Koco Choco. The food was great. The white sangria was outstanding. And Mauricio Ovalle's service was the best. We've sent him business associates who have loved their experience as well.
We were the first to arrive at the restaurant after opening and it was a glorious experience. The ambiance was great and we had excellent food. Our waiter was delightful and while we could've spoke in Spanish, he wanted to practice his English and he was so attentive.
Tucked away in a corner of El San Juan Casino and Resort, this restaurant was a great find! The atmosphere and decor was trendy and comfortable. The wait staff was amazing and very helpful. The food sounded amazing, looked fantastic and was incredibly delicious . Dumplings for appy, pork and beef for dinner , and donuts for dessert....all remarkable!!
Muy complacida con la atención que nos dió el gerente.
Delicious dishes, awesome service, outstanding ambient. Just plain spectacular!!!
The food was not outstanding and the service was extremely slow.
The seared tuna is just the best. Highly recommended!
Koco is a very nice, quiet and enjoyable place. The food was exquisite and the service was excellent. Mauricio was an excellent waiter who went above and beyond. It is pricey But worth every dollar!
This was not my first time dinning there, but it truly was the best!!
From the hostess who greated us with a huge smile through the Chocokoco dessert my wife devoured we could not have been more pleased. Surf and turf combined a perfectly cooked and tender filet with their signature coconut shrimp. My wife substituted coconut risotto for an even bigger coconut punch and loved it. My paella, though missing the crunchy edges I love, was excellent as well. The saffron rice was infused with the sausage flavor and the pieces of chicken melted in my mouth. Wife agreed. The seafood was perfectly cooked. Mussles and clams were tender (no chewy, gritty versions you sometimes get). Shrimp pulled out of their tails easily (my personal benchmark for evaluating freshness and kitchen talent). Highly recommended. Our Gustazo made it an even better value but we plan to return without one. Enough said?
Excellent food and service. Waitress was very helpful and happy to serve. Recommend: Coconut shrimps (house specialty).
If your just here a few days I wouldn't waste a night nothing special or memorable we went on a Wednesday at 8:30 it was so empty only 2 other tables eating felt awkwardly quiet. Left after an app went somewhere more lively
I had the grilled chickens and Caribbean rice dish as thus was our first night at the hotel and didn't want to go off property, Friday night is the best night at ELsanJuan. The rice had red rice, diced red potatoes, chirozo, sautéed onions, slightly spicy from the chorizo every fork full of garlic arom! The server deck scribes it "stairway to heaven". My husband actually ordered fish! He never orders fish and never offered me a bite that's how good it was, chorizo encrusted Mahi Mahi served with yuca fries( these I thought had too much butter) but he thought was so good he was still talking about the dish the next day. Two round of drinks N with tips an even $100 what a steal! Definitely give this a try
Nothing was bad, but nothing was great. Other, better option exist. I would come back for late night drinks at the bar but not for dinner.
Kind of what you expect from a resort restaurant. It wasn't anything to write home about, but I had pretty low expectations going in and they were exceeded. Service was good until the server stacked all the plates up on the table in front of us.
Servic was very good. However, the portions were small and pricey.
The chorizo crusted mahi mahi will blow your mind! We had a mixed experience with service - loved our bartender but our waiter left something to be desired. The restaurant is stunningly beautiful but kept very cold.
Appetizers were ok, but the entrees were incredible! Have the seared tuna or Mahi Mahi..both will blow your socks off!
We made a reservation for valentine's Day for ourselves and two other couples. We were greeted nicely by the hostess and shown to our table. The decor of the restaurant is attractive, and the ambiance moderate despite been steps away from the busy lobby of the hotel. The food was good, nut nothing spectacular. We would recommend the appetizer "pastelillos" and the shrimp. They have an interesting variety of cocktail drinks which were good. The service however was slow, and the waiter not friendly at all. He was not knowledgeable about the menu. The unintended consequence is that because the service was slow we had plenty of time for good conversation and fun. Unfortunately, that was not the intended consequence. Overall, if the restaurant improves its service it could become a great restaurant. It seem however they are conetn with being a tourist trap.
Beef short rib empanadas were flavorful, and pastry was light. 4 in the order were enough for 2 to share as an app. Tempura coconut shrimp were fabulous as was the grouper with mofungo. Side of coconut risotto was rich but terrific!!! Would go back!!! Our server Jesus was fantastic too!
I wanted a cozy spot for my husband and I to enjoy late night apps and drinks on our last night in San Juan. The space was beautiful. Loved the bar, our booth and that beautiful long table under the pergola. However, it was quiet when we arrived, which was near closing. Our server was fantastic! The drinks were yummy and the environment complimented my husband's handsomeness! :-) However, the apps were just marginal... typical overpriced hotel fare. I'd come for drinks and vibe with a group, and possibly again for a romantic night out, but I'd eat first.
The chef believes that three golf ball size balls of deep fried goo is his interpretation of crab cakes. We saw nothing in them that resembled crab. I am confident that this chef never looked at a crab cake recipe. Our server, Edwardo did a great job, dispite the lousy appetizer. I would avoid this place.
Whenever we are in San Juan this is one of our go to restaurants. The food is consistently good. I has a pan fried red snapper with coconut risotto. They usually have this on the menu with different fish. The Tostones were crisp and light.
We shared an excellent ceviche and then had main courses of a chicken dish and mahi mahi. The chicken was excellent, the mahi mahi was tasty, but a little on the dry side.
While in San Juan, we've eaten at Yamato, Koco, and Zest twice — so have experienced some great food and dining experiences. For local color, we went to La Casita Blanca, Metropol, and La Playita — all were good, more local style PR cuisine. Every restaurant had good service and we would go back to them again.
So we went to Koco based on open table reviews. It was New Years eve and I booked the table 3 weeks in advance through open table. When we got to the restaurant , we were told by the manager that because it was New Years , the hotel had decided to institute a 25 dollar surcharge for each person. This had not been communicated by phone call in advance of our meal by the hotel, open table or the restaurant. The people ahead of us checking in were told the same thing and cancelled their dinner. Being a New Yorker , I was not about to take this lying down. I explained to the manager that this seemed to be a scam on the part of the hotel. He wouldn't go so far as agree but he did ask me to accompany him to see the hotel manager. The manager WAS nice and waived the fee for us. But it did leave an unpleasant reminder on what was otherwise a nice dining experience-- delicious food , excellent and attentive service. The only other weird thing was at the end of the meal when we tried to order coffee with our dessert , we were told that there wasn't any---that they would have to brew a pot. Huh? Very pretty interior and nice looking crowd by the way. Oh -- one last thing --- they never checked off our resey when we got there so we were listed as no shows by open table and got an email asking is to explain ourselves .
Horrible service. Waiter did his best to run interference but kitchen delivery unacceptable.
The food was very good and the service was excellent. The ambience lost something, since you have to walk through the huge resort past the tacky casino to get to the restaurant. Once inside, it's very dark and cavernous - you forget you're in sunny San Juan, so close to the ocean (but that's not really the point). For the money, Oceano is a much better bet.
That being said, the mojitos are excellent, and everything my party of four ordered was enjoyed.
Got a reservation,we were seated on time and ordered the paella, crab cakes and filet dumplings.would absolutely come back for the paella and crab cakes!
We went with the pre fix menu and the portions were very good size for the money. Our waiter helped us pick a good rice with chicken meal. Very good experience.
Recently went on a Thursday night. Arrived about 7pm and were first ones there (early bird diners?!?!) so tough to tell what ambience would be like later in the evening or on a weekend.
Food was excellent - extremely fresh - especially the fish. Highly recommend the Koco Mojito to drink.
Service was extremely friendly.
Would definitely return.
Everything was great here...the restaurant wasn't super busy b/c it was low season in Puerto Rico, I'd like to go back sometime in February when the whole place is hopping. Highly recommend though!
Great ambience and food. The flan was amazing!!! Service was great too. Would definitely come back if I come back to Puerto Rico.
Easy to make a reservation. Honestly, the Mojitos at Koco are the best I have ever had. The entrees for dinner were also quite good, excellent food and service.
Nice ambiance. Nice ambiance. Good food. Fine service
Koco is a great place for dining. Our waiter offered extremely great service. This restaurant has a great environment and is beautifully decorated. I highly reccommend it!!!!
We had dinner and the food was really nice however the portion were really small. Overall we spent a good time.
Mauricio our waiter, was outstanding. Great ambience, good music.
