Kobe Japanese Steak House Ratings and Reviews
I made the reservation for the birthday of a friend. There was another person at the table (tepan table) with a birthday. The waitress "celebrated" the other birthday with cake, etc, but when I reminded her of my friends birthday, she ignored me and did NOTHING. I was very disappointed. Even the other couple told the waitress that it was my friends birthday, still NOTHING.
They also had the grill on when we arrived and left it on until after the wait staff cleaned the table. It was VERY warm sitting there for so long with grill on.
My family has been coming to the Palm Springs area for almost 30 years. For the first few years we went to Ichiban and when it closed we were so happy to find Kobes. We make it a point to come to Kobes at least once during our stay and have never had a bad meal and/or experience.
This is a teppanyaki grill. Those familiar with the old Beni-hana restaurants will have a good picture of Kobe, complete with chef showmanship. Our chef, Miguel, was a very capable cook and excellent showman. The restaurant also offers sushi, sashimi, and tempura dinners which are prepared in the kitchen rather than the grill. Only one basic type of steak (New York) is offered, although filet is available at a modest upcharge. Kobe's most distinguishing feature in my opinion are its country inn architecture, replete with koi pond, and some excellent examples
Japanese pottery. Food quality is very good.
It has been years since we went to Kobes we had a reservation at 7:15 and didn't get seated until after 7:30 we had 2 children and it was my 8 year old granddaughter birthday we didn't leave until 9:30 we had a hard time getting drink refilled. I thought it was cause we were not drinking alcoholic drinks? One of the managers did provide us with tempura as we sat down for the wait which was nice however it was downhill for there. we tried to make eye contact and no luck. Sad because we had such great memories of Kobes from past visits and now its not a big deal to go there anymore. Food was great and the cook was super!
We had a 45 minute wait that I mentioned in my last review. I am more than pleased that Jamie, a manager from Kobe’s, called me and responded to my input with care. What great customer service. She was truly concerned because that is not the way they operate. I appreciate the way it was handled and can’t wait to return now. The food is delicious, and I was happy to learn that what we had experienced before was not the norm. Thank you Jamie and Kobe’s.
This was a birthday dinner for my adult daughter, A dinner out with my wife and our 1 minor child. I have been to Kobe in Honolulu where Im from orignally and this was a first visit for our Ohana here in the desert where we all reside. My wife and I were not impressed our Daughter and son seemed to enjoy. An older. Fillipino looking woman came to say she was covering for our waitress and she was a bit abrrassive and had to check if calamari was avail for appetizer we ordered multiple ones but she was awkaward and came back to say yes and what she brought was overdone. She thankfully left us with good waitress. Our cook was not very good and seemed sloppy. He overcooked steak a bit and shrimp. Our bill was 340.00 and we tipped cook 40 dollars and staff 60. Again in Hawaii the chefs are trained trafitional and really have a more authentic Japanese feel. This was more like going to a Mongolian dinner the garlic spicy fried rice was terrible in my eyes greasy and mushy grains. The onion volcano was poorly excuted. Chefs used to be thourghly trianed in knife skills and all ours did was tap beat like music with knives and spatulas. He cracked eggs on back of spatulla no real trick in that. Messy presentation. I will not recommend this place and feel cheated for overall experience. The waitress we had was pleasant and they did remember to sing Happy Birthday but forgot to light candle and had to locate and redue. We overheard other groups get theirs done correctly but it was done and daughter enjoyed it. We only enjoyed poke appetizers my wife and I asked for a box to take home our entrees which was enjoyed by our older son who did not come. My wife and I felt weird to say anything and didnt want to upset our daughter who seldome eats out with us. She would have been upset if we had spoken up about this and we did not want to ruin. Teppan Chefs need to train properly no fry cooks with sloppy skills please.40$ tip was left in pitty. Pending review.
Went here for my birthday dinner. Had so much fun. The food was amazing and authenic. The whole table become a group that experienced the fun and interactive atmosphere. I highly recommend this restraunt for anyone who is celebrating a special occasion, or even just for dinner.
Had a wonderful experience at Kobe. When we arrived for our reservation the hostesses let us know immediately that they were running behind schedule and offered us to sit in the lounge while we waited. Alejandro at the bar was very personable and friendly, he initiated conversation and poured some fierce cocktails to hold us. When we were seated the hostess and hostess manager were super friendly and upbeat. Florida our server was diligent in refilling our drinks and our chef Alex was humorous and professional. We enjoy Kobes for our special occassions!
The taste became not so good. Very oily and too salty. Used be much simpler and lighter taste but our Cheff put so much butter, salt, etc. Not taste like Japanese food any more (I am a Japanese). We used to love to go there a lot but may not return. Too bad because this was a fun restaurant w family.
We love Japanese steakhouses, so we were excited to try this one. The valet parking was a nice option and we always take advantage of that service when available. One thing, the cook was amateur in his 'fun' style with the customers. Just kept saying "whooo" constantly. No 'egg roll' or 'Choo Choo train' or 'volcano', just whoooooo. Weird, but we will return regardless of the odd chef's interaction.
I loved Mike's joke's and kind words to everyone at our table! It was Christmas eve and my birthday was on Christmas so we brought our son & his wife and our grandson with us there and we were visiting from San Diego area there! Great food great FUN! Thanks the Sanders Family!
The food was excellent. Our entire family loves fried rice and $4.50 additional to have fried rice is excessive! For the three of us we paid an additional $13.50! This should be included with the dinner that was priced high as well. Chef was excellent but cocktail server was not. Everyone at our table had to go to the bar several times to get their own drinks because they were tired of waiting. I mentioned that it was my son's birthday when I made the reservation and they brought him a piece of cheesecake and left it in front of him--no "happy birthday song"! :-(
Visit Kobe if you are ready for teppanyaki and feel like dining with new "friends" around a large iron cooking surface. Entre options are numerous and Kobe makes a special effort to prepare sides such as fried rice-- mild, spicy or with garlic, as you prefer. The proteins are beautifully presented before they are prepared before you. The sashimi menu, while limited, was very fresh for our visit---we were at Kobe's on a Sunday evening and the sashimi was terrific. Bar service is timely throughout the meal, and the carnival-like atmosphere is entertaining for children and adults alike. A very nice venue for a birthday or anniversary celebration.
We have been to many Kobe steak houses over the years. It is always entertaining. However, this time we were almost smoked out. 2 of our party had smoke blowing in their faces the whole time the grill was on. They hadn't been before and I'm not sure they would try again.
