Kō at Fairmont Kea Lani Ratings and Reviews
The wait staff was very pushy, rather than attentive. Appetizer came so quickly it arrived before I finished any bread then the main course took awhile. The shrimp were overbattered and soggy and there was enough sauce to dip maybe 2 shrimp. The short rib was flavourful and fresh but the risotto was watery. I ended up opting for dessert and when I chose the Brown butter banana cake the wait staff *told* me - not asked -that an extra scoop of ice cream would be added. No surprise I was also charged for this ice real that I never asked for and it is not listed or stated on the menu as extra. The cake was not at all what I expected. It was dry and tasteless though had a nice crunchy texture. It had no flavour at all. There was a sliver of banana and a single smudge of caramel on the plate that was more for appearance than flavour. I would say the dessert should be renamed tasteless dry brownie like cake with subtle hint of banana and caramel/brown butter on the side. Lastly this has been the most expensive meal to date on my trip and was way overpriced. I had room service with 3 courses in my neighbouring hotel that cost less than half of the cost of this meal even after tip/gratuity and service charges. Seeing some hotel guests where this restaurant was located coming into the lobby with groceries tells me they must also prefer not to eat at this restaurant when staying there.
We went to Ko after reading Yelp reviews. The menu was extensive and our server Luis was great! The food was good, but not outstanding. It just seemed a bit ordinary even though it was high quality (with correspondingly high prices). Still an enjoyable evening in a beautiful setting.
Researched a lot for our anniversary dinner on Maui. The service and food at Ko was the finest we have yet encountered on our extended trip through the islands. Our server Hannah was beyond exceptional and the Zarzuela seafood kettle now sits atop our "favorites" list. Definetly reccommend
This is one of our favorite restaurants on Maui. As a full time resident we see resort dining restaurants come and go with mixed results. Ko has established itself as a great dining experience with an expansive menu with something for everyone, excellent food and service. I highly recommend giving them a try!
We went here for our one upscale dinner while on Maui. While it was by far our most expensive meal, it was by far the worst. While other tables were offered a wine list and bread, neither were offered to us. We had to flag down our server to try to get a second drink and plates were cleared while others were still eating. Our food was mediocre at best, overcooked and did not match the menu description.
We ordered appetizer sampler that was tasty and dessert sampler that was also tasty. Our main entrees were hit and miss. The seared ahi tuna special was cooked perfectly but the vegetables were in a very salty sauce. The plate had no crunch and no freshness. The opa in miso butter was overcooked and dry with little flavour. The sauce was delicious.
What can I say? I’ve visited once before and received stellar service. Chase and Nestor “Ness” was amazing. Great selection of “Adult Beverages”. I love the organic grass fed beef there. I will tell all my friends about the customer service there and the ono grinds. Mahalo Chase and Ness for a great dining experience.
1st time. Special Family dinner for 4. Ambiance, outdoor, covered ambiance, late evening.
Service was excellent from hostess to waitress to busser. But the food! Oh, it was delicious. Even unusual dishes, were so yummy. It was perfect. That’s Fairmont at its best...
I think that the restaurant is overrated. The restaurant lighting is terrible; it feels way too bright and definitely not romantic or great for night dining. At the Fairmont, Nick's Fish restaurant is much better for ambience. They delivered our entrees while we were still eating our appetizer. Service did not seem very polished; friendly staff but poor team work.
We really like Ko. Our one complaint is that the food service is very slow. They seem understaffed. The waiters and bartenders are lovely. It is the kitchen which is the issue. We ate there three times during a one-week stay at the Kea Lani. Once you order lunch it is a solid 45-50 minutes before food arrives. This happened every time we ate there. Given that most people dining there have come in from the pool or the beach and want to go back out again, not spend their whole day waiting for food - it seems like they should improve their food delivery times.
Ko is our go-to restaurant on Maui, for several reasons: Great food, including a Gluten Free menu; Great ambiance; and a sweet kamaaina deal (though not every day). Waiters have always been friendly and helpful. The open-air location is perfect for Maui. We've tried several different entrees, salads, and pupus in the last two years, and they've all been wonderful.
Christmas Dinner here was PERFECT!! We sat outside, which was lit by tiki torches... you could hear the waves crashing in the background. The Fairmont Kea Lani is a beautiful property to boot! Dress code is relaxed; we wore shorts and button-ups... some people were more dressed up, others more casual. Come as you are and relax to a wonderful meal & beautiful drinks. Love the chef’s unique pairings and creative presentation for all courses. We highly recommend the Lavender-Honey Macadamia Nut Shrimp & Fresh Catch of the Day with the Macadamia Crust. Service was over-the-top. Serena P made us feel at home- true Hawaiian warmth. Her menu recommendations were SPOT ON!! Ask for her when you make your reservation. Thank you for making our Christmas vacation date night special!
