During Prohibition, rebellious club members defied the laws of an alcohol-free society and continued to openly serve liquor. The club survived without being raided for some time, perhaps due to the influence of Enoch 'Nucky' Johnson, the reigning political boss, who was a Knife & Fork regular.
The 2005 renovation of this legendary restaurant was designed to recapture the look and feel of the Knife & Fork's Prohibition era roots. The menu, featuring the finest steaks and seafood, is complemented by an extensive wine list and 10,000 bottle wine "cellar".
NOTE: We are a multi-level house with no elevator. Please make us aware if you prefer first floor accommodations.
Since this is more of a special occasion venue, go for the lobster thermidor. It’s a 2-1/4 lb. monster with the meat cooked, cut up, and put back in the shell with a creamy sauce and some veggies. You will savor every bite.
Service is great too.
Food is delicious and very fair value
This restaurant is fabulous on all levels. I hope we get to eat there again soon. Beautiful!!
Our group had several different dishes with much variety and, we shared.
Everything was great to over the top, best ever.
All was perfect... the only thing I could not comment on with a perfect score is the fact that some of the staff did not seem happy. They were OK to nice with us but to see them behind the bar or back in the kitchen, they did not look excited to be there.
Regardless, everything was wonderful and we'll be back.
Needed good meal. Got it!
Service the past couple times hasn’t been very good. Correct drink order very slow to the tsblr. Food always geear
The seafood risotto was excellent and service was very good.
My recommendation of Knife and Fork is a yes*. The asterisk stems from the lack of consistency in the atmosphere. It is a fine dining experience, and the food is always good, but there are higher expectations for service. My favorite experience of dining out ever was at Knife and Fork, but I have also left disappointed, as in this weekend. It can be incredibly loud, as it was this weekend, and that detracts from the experience but it happens. What I can't excuse is the average service we received. We didn't learn the waitress's name, there was no banter, no information about the food, and long waits. She just had no personality. While the food prices, especially at Restaurant Week, are no longer much (if at all) higher than Philly or New York, there still used to be the feeling that this is the place for a special night out, and the last two times the service has not been special at all.
Restaurant week is just ok- the potatoes were cold!
Service was very good and everyone was very pleasant. Table was ready when Got there so no real waiting
Will come back again. Food was good ,it was restaurant week and various choice for a select menu or you could pick from regular menu.Fish and chips was excellent
It was my first time there and I loved it. The food was good and reasonably priced. Service from John, our server, was great. Will definitely return.
Last place we ate out before everything closed down due to Covid. Dinner was excellent and glad we had a great time before the lockdown!
Everything was delicious the service was excellent but the desert....could have been better
Went during restaurant week...service was great..food was very good and with the set price it was an excellent value..definitely will come back...
I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR HAPPY HOUR, THE SALAD AND THE DESSERT WAS JUST OK.
I was really excited to try Knife and Fork after hearing great things. Unfortunately the food was underwhelming. Not bad, but for the price and what I was expecting, it should have been on a different level, it was extremely average across the board. We wont be going back.
It was great fun! We were seated at the time of our reservation. Our waiter was spot on.
We enjoyed trying different items that were on the Restaurant Week menu. Just liked the old building itself. Makes you think of the history it has. Thanks, Knife and Fork for a memorable evening.
Sammie was a great waitress with excellent service.
As good as it gets!
We were brought to our table immediately. Our server Robert was most attentive and brought drinks quickly. The food was delicious and I was impressed that all 10 dishes were served to the correct person. Will always recommend the Knife and Fork.
Over all the food was good. My friends steak was bland but ok. My food was wonderful. The waiter tried to get us to order appetizers and meal all at once. Stating he might not could get back for 30 minutes and our food might be later than we wanted it. We did not fall for that and ordered our food after our appetizers. We got our food on time and our drinks refilled as needed. Though I should have questioned him and asked if he didn't think he was going to get back to us for 30 minutes how was he going to get our new drink orders. I dont like restaurants that insist on you ordering your whole meal at once. I like to enjoy my appetizer and not feel rushed. But, I did love the ambiance of the restaurant and will return to give them another chance.
Great service. Great food. Fantastic atmosphere.
My wife an I don't get out much, but when we do, we like a really good meal in a beautiful setting. The knife and fork delivers every time.
Beautiful historic building with a really unique old-world atmosphere. Food was delicious. We had the Knife and Fork Dinner which consisted of a bowl of Crab and Corn Chowder, a fresh tomato and mozzarella appetizer, Lobster Thermidor and Filet Mignon. Truly a good value at such an exclusive place.
Great as always!!
All of our food was fabulous! Service was above & beyond great! We had a table of 8 loudmouths near us & we couldn't hear ourselves talk until they left. We were offered another table, but our main course was about to arrive & the loudmouths were finishing their desserts & ready to leave, so we stayed at our table.
