About Knickerbocker Bar and Grill

"The place where New Yorkers eat"
Knickerbocker is known for its great Jazz and its 28 oz. T- Bone Steaks and is a favorite among many celebrities including F. Murray Abraham, Chris Noth and Alec Baldwin. Racheal Ray listed us in her "NYC Favorites" and has praised our Shrimp Cocktail, Creamed Spinach, and of course our T- Bone Steaks.
The word "Knickerbocker" itself, says "New York". Upon entering, you’ll know you're in the Village. Its wood paneled walls sport rare turn of the century posters and original caricatures by Al Hirschfield. Large leather booths line the walls and brass rails accent the 100 year old marble bar, where Charles Lindbergh signed his Trans Atlantic contract.
We have survived the times by using the freshest ingredients from local markets, and offering good solid value and quality. We serve until late (weekends 1:00 AM) and offer a Bistro Menu with lighter fare.
We offer Brunch on the Weekends, and are open on all Holidays.

Perhaps we are a bit biased having been at the Knickerbocker as often as we have throughout many years, it is our go to for any special occasion, as well as the place we take friends visiting us from out of town, and on our own date nights, it's the best

We met our friends for dinner on a very crowded Saturday night. Our reservation was honored almost immediately and we were seated in a comfortable booth. The ambiance, service, food and value were all great. I like going to Knickerbocker because I don’t have to scream at my companions in order to be heard, but it’s still a festive and fun atmosphere. We’ll be back, for sure.

Our son started at NYU this Fall and this has quickly become our favorite place in the area. Whether for lunch, dinner, drinks, it is spectacular. The staff is fun and friendly; the food is sooooo good, and the atmosphere is terrific. We love it!!!!!

made a reservation for 8:00 pm and when I got there the place was packed and I was told that I'd have to wait, as they overbooked the seating which was surprising and very disappointing.

When we sat down and the table was not set and the food was disappointingly average at best.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the bar is nice but small.

Overall it is a very nice restaurant but it seems that I caught them on a bad night.

Surprisingly good food at this worthy old school NY place. Im sure when the Jazz is playing it’d be even more lively worthwhile. Still worth a try even without. Feels like a good regular NY spot, avoiding the hyper-trendy man bun crowd.

We picked this restaurant as somewhere to get a steak whilst we were staying in Greenwich Village. I made a mistake and didn't pick the fillet minion! Great wholesome food. Good ambience. What made our trip worthwhile was our server, Brianny. Great lady with a sense of humour and a good people person. I would employ her !

Consistently good, friendly, comfortable all-occasion restaurant. Great collectors posters of

This NY institution in Greenwich Village never disappoints! The food is very good but expensive. Known for its steaks but does great seafood as well. Old world banquette seating for a very ‘Brown Derby’ experience. Always a few celeb faces around like F. Murray Abraham the other day sitting a table away. The waiters are a bit on the cranky side and don’t make you feel like welcome guests — no warm and fuzzy here! But I come here often and it’s always a pleasure.

The Knickerbocker is a great neighborhood spot that feels like an old time place but in a good, comfortable way. The food is consistently good, not overly foody, but solid fare where you won't go wrong. There are lots of options from salads, soups, interesting main dishes and steaks. There are usually specials which are pretty delicious. My only complaint is that they also have a bar menu that has a fantastic mac-n-cheese that is not offered in the main dining room and at this last visit, they had taken the hamburger off the main menu (but they did allow me to order it). I hope they put it back on as sometimes you just want a good burger in a nicer place than a diner!

This restaurant is always a winner. Food was delish and plentiful. My niece, who is running in NYC Marathon, was able to stuff herself with carbs. The rest of us enjoyed the signature T Bone steak.

Steaks were amazing. Why pay more at some fancy named place? These are as good as anywhere in NY. That’s why they’re still going strong after 40 years!

Waiter ordered the wrong item. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and was brought a BLT. By the time the correct item was brought, my friend had almost finished his quiche. The waiter apologized for his mistake, but that certainly is poor service.

In my reservation, and again at the venue I mentioned it was mom's birthday. I tried making it clear in a way that was hard to miss. YET, they did nothing. My wife had to asked for crushed red pepper for her dish three times. We went there specifically to celebrate and surprise my mom for her birthday and they botched the whole thing up... I think, for what is supposed to be a nicer place, this is inexcusable. They wouldn't have messed this kind of thing up at even the lowest tier of places. TGI Friday's doesn't even get a birthday request wrong.

The food here is OK. The late-night live music is nice. The look of the place is dated, but his a charm to it. BUT, w/o great service none of that matters.

I should not be told that I am not allowed to sit in the dining room or that they are "letting us stay" for not ordering entrees. My date and I ordered 2 appetizers, 3 drinks, dessert, and espresso. The bill was still over $100 including tip. That should be more than enough for a seat at this restaurant. It ruined the nice setting of the date and made us uncomfortable for staying there. I would recommend this establishment highly if it was not for that. I get it, it's New York City, but that was borderline disrespectful.

What a shame. We've been here many times, and have had pretty positive experiences. Most recently; table for two, we ended up crammed in like sardines at a table without enough room for the entrees. Constantly got nudged and bumped by waiters and passing patrons. We hoped to take our time (some drinks, a couple of appetizers perhaps), but the waiter made us order absolutely everything up-front. I've never had that happen before. The food was slow to arrive. The steak was overcooked. No point in complaining at the time, as we practically had to jump up and down to flag down the waiter. As I said, really a shame. This place is iconic, it's NOT cheap, and we've had some good times there. So disappointing.

There was absolutely no service. We waited well over an hour just to get the waitress to take our order. It was an 8 o’clock reservation booked well in advance. I booked this restaurant because it was where Harry Connick Jr played. The Jazz players were very creepy. It was my husbands birthday and all was a disaster. The food was only fair. Tourist place. Poor. Julie
