About Knickerbocker Bar and Grill
"The place where New Yorkers eat"
Knickerbocker is known for its great Jazz and its 28 oz. T- Bone Steaks and is a favorite among many celebrities including F. Murray Abraham, Chris Noth and Alec Baldwin. Racheal Ray listed us in her "NYC Favorites" and has praised our Shrimp Cocktail, Creamed Spinach, and of course our T- Bone Steaks.
The word "Knickerbocker" itself, says "New York". Upon entering, you’ll know you're in the Village. Its wood paneled walls sport rare turn of the century posters and original caricatures by Al Hirschfield. Large leather booths line the walls and brass rails accent the 100 year old marble bar, where Charles Lindbergh signed his Trans Atlantic contract.
We have survived the times by using the freshest ingredients from local markets, and offering good solid value and quality. We serve until late (weekends 1:00 AM) and offer a Bistro Menu with lighter fare.
We offer Brunch on the Weekends, and are open on all Holidays.

Knickerbocker has had "Live Jazz" since the days when the village had "Live Jazz". Harry Connick Jr. got his start here, back in the late 80"s. Names like Junior Mance, Bucky Pizzarelli and Ben Wolf now show up on our schedule.
We have live jazz on Friday & Saturday nights, starting at 9:45pm till 2:00am. There is a small $3.50 cover charge at the tables after 10:15 pm, or just stop in at the bar for a drink, with no cover.
We can cater a party to fit your needs.
Parking on the street is usually easy to find. The meters finish at 7:00pm, and the other street parking is available after 6:00pm. There are parking lots on the approach to the restaurant on 9th street or 8th street.
The 6 train at Astor place, or the R & N to 8th street are just a block away. Other stations like Union Square & West 4th street are just a short walk away and have most train lines.

Knickerbocker Bar and Grill Ratings and Reviews
This NY institution in Greenwich Village never disappoints! The food is very good but expensive. Known for its steaks but does great seafood as well. Old world banquette seating for a very ‘Brown Derby’ experience. Always a few celeb faces around like F. Murray Abraham the other day sitting a table away. The waiters are a bit on the cranky side and don’t make you feel like welcome guests — no warm and fuzzy here! But I come here often and it’s always a pleasure.
The Knickerbocker is a great neighborhood spot that feels like an old time place but in a good, comfortable way. The food is consistently good, not overly foody, but solid fare where you won't go wrong. There are lots of options from salads, soups, interesting main dishes and steaks. There are usually specials which are pretty delicious. My only complaint is that they also have a bar menu that has a fantastic mac-n-cheese that is not offered in the main dining room and at this last visit, they had taken the hamburger off the main menu (but they did allow me to order it). I hope they put it back on as sometimes you just want a good burger in a nicer place than a diner!
In my reservation, and again at the venue I mentioned it was mom's birthday. I tried making it clear in a way that was hard to miss. YET, they did nothing. My wife had to asked for crushed red pepper for her dish three times. We went there specifically to celebrate and surprise my mom for her birthday and they botched the whole thing up... I think, for what is supposed to be a nicer place, this is inexcusable. They wouldn't have messed this kind of thing up at even the lowest tier of places. TGI Friday's doesn't even get a birthday request wrong.
The food here is OK. The late-night live music is nice. The look of the place is dated, but his a charm to it. BUT, w/o great service none of that matters.
I should not be told that I am not allowed to sit in the dining room or that they are "letting us stay" for not ordering entrees. My date and I ordered 2 appetizers, 3 drinks, dessert, and espresso. The bill was still over $100 including tip. That should be more than enough for a seat at this restaurant. It ruined the nice setting of the date and made us uncomfortable for staying there. I would recommend this establishment highly if it was not for that. I get it, it's New York City, but that was borderline disrespectful.
What a shame. We've been here many times, and have had pretty positive experiences. Most recently; table for two, we ended up crammed in like sardines at a table without enough room for the entrees. Constantly got nudged and bumped by waiters and passing patrons. We hoped to take our time (some drinks, a couple of appetizers perhaps), but the waiter made us order absolutely everything up-front. I've never had that happen before. The food was slow to arrive. The steak was overcooked. No point in complaining at the time, as we practically had to jump up and down to flag down the waiter. As I said, really a shame. This place is iconic, it's NOT cheap, and we've had some good times there. So disappointing.
There was absolutely no service. We waited well over an hour just to get the waitress to take our order. It was an 8 o’clock reservation booked well in advance. I booked this restaurant because it was where Harry Connick Jr played. The Jazz players were very creepy. It was my husbands birthday and all was a disaster. The food was only fair. Tourist place. Poor. Julie
Business date (important) late Was able to wait for arrival & not pushed for order Maitre D knew where I wanted to sit Check presented correctly again not pressed Waiter very attentive to my needs as I was picking up the check which was supposed to be picked up by other party Handled with style & dignity Will go again for business (maybe even just for relaxing fun!
The meal we had was wonderful. Their steaks are right on the mark. The service impeccable. I would recommend this gem of a New York steakhouse restaurant to anyone looking for an amazing experience. From start to finish, it was a joy to be at the Knickerbocker!!
The Knick never disappoints. We come here for our birthdays every year...it became a tradition. And also during the year. The food is always great...good specials and you can't find a better porterhouse steak. Nice atmosphere and music on e weekends. A can't miss!
We had a lovely time at Knickerboker. We went to have dinner with dear friends and listen to Valerie Capers play. The food/service/entertainment were all fantastic. Couldn't have asked for anymore. The services are suburb. The sound level was perfect. We often find when there is live music you can't enjoy a nice conversation - this was not the case. What a beautiful place. We look forward to our next visit.
I'ver been coming here for over 20 years. It never lets me down and is always a great vibe. It feels like old NYC in there, and I really appreciate that. The food alone is always worth the trip, but combined with the atmosphere, I always look forward to dinner here.
This always warm, comfortable, reliable neighborhood gem was a reintroduction to an old friend who grew up in lower Manhattan, years ago, and is now a returnee after a career elsewhere. It reminded us all of the great age of New York's best places to have a wonderful dinner with close friends; great food, great ambience, friendly, and better than we could have expected. Thanks.
My wife and I stopped by during a day stopover in NYC in our way back to France. I remembered the Knickerbocker from when I was an NYU student in the early 70s. It’s a classic room, filled with many local people. Not trendy but an authentic NY experience. Our meals were well prepared and delicious.
