Knickerbocker Bar and Grill
Knickerbocker is known for its great Jazz and its 28 oz. T- Bone Steaks and is a favorite among many celebrities including F. Murray Abraham, Chris Noth and Alec Baldwin. Racheal Ray listed us in her "NYC Favorites" and has praised our Shrimp Cocktail, Creamed Spinach, and of course our T- Bone Steaks.
The word "Knickerbocker" itself, says "New York". Upon entering, you’ll know you're in the Village. Its wood paneled walls sport rare turn of the century posters and original caricatures by Al Hirschfield. Large leather booths line the walls and brass rails accent the 100 year old marble bar, where Charles Lindbergh signed his Trans Atlantic contract.
We have survived the times by using the freshest ingredients from local markets, and offering good solid value and quality. We serve until late (weekends 1:00 AM) and offer a Bistro Menu with lighter fare.
We offer Brunch on the Weekends, and are open on all Holidays.

Knickerbocker is a Village institution that has never compromised its goals and qualities in the 25 years I have known it. The food is consistently of the highest quality, and the service is kind and competent. I have never had a complaint about this wonderful restaurant. You should put them on your short list.
Enjoyable evening. Good food, welcoming atmosphere
I will recommend the Knickerbocker Bar & Grill as an excellent dining experience and jazz / cabaret performance venue. It is a wonderful and popular restaurant, bar, music center and friendly gathering place that is of great value and benefit to New York City. 😊
The beat Steak (and everything else) in NY!
There for thanksgiving. Main course courses were good (salmon and T-bone) but bread pudding dessert was dry and cold. We were served the wrong wine and didn’t notice until bottle was open and we had tasted it. Felt it was our fault so didn’t send it back. Waitress did a shoulder shrug didn’t seem to care b/c she was so busy. Would go back but not for thanksgiving.
Turkey dinner was bland. Stuffing lacked any flavor. The Brussel sprouts were good. The two deserts
Were less than mediocre. The restaurant packed in so many tables that servers couldn’t help but bump you continuously. Very dissatisfy dining experience.
The Knickerbocker is always great, but especially on a holiday with its festive atmosphere. Had their signature T-bone steak. Probably the best steak I ever had. So tender. Like butter.
Wonderful thanksgiving celebration
Food is amazing and service top notch. Thanks for rhw best meal every time!
The food, the ambiance, the service were all excellent. We were there for brunch with out of town relatives who, like us, enjoyed the varied menu and the delicious offerings.
Love it every time more and more!!!
I normally love this place. Last Saturday, it was very noisy and very crowded (I think they added a table or two). The steak was only fair, and it was cooked more than I like it - not enough more to return it, but enough more to disappoint.
i've eaten here a number of times over many years, always been pleased.
What a great evening! We were a party of 9 gathered to celebrate a 30th birthday and we definitely chose the right spot to do so. Knickerbocker has been around for a long time and we have enjoyed many terrific meals here, and they continue to delight. The menu is broad enough to provide something for all, and despite the breadth the quality of each dish was terrific. The wine list also offers broad choices at multiple price points. Service was very efficient and friendly. It was a Saturday night so the live jazz was a welcome treat, and not at all overwhelming. Salads were fantastic, the main courses plentiful, well plated and delicious, and I cannot say enough about the desserts, especially the chocolate chip cookie in a skillet, churros and banana bread pudding - all of them delicious.
love the atmosphere, service was excellent! Most of all the dessert was too die for...
Knickerbocker is our go to neighborhood restaurant. We have been going there for years. Never disappoints.
It is always a hit. The food is exceptional. The ambience is classic, old school charming but one of the reasons we consistently come. The large booths are our favorite as are the Hirschfield's and dim but not dark delighting and the service is delightful. Our waiter was both intelligent, knew the menu backwards and forwards, attentive but best of all had a terrific sense of humor.
1. No creamed spinach available —a signature dish!
2. One smear clearly half the size of the other, or less — were supposed to be the same.
3. One steak was blood red inside, was supposed to be medium.
Fortunately we were in no rush as all was mage right, eventually.
Crab cake starter, mashed potatoes and asparagus all excellent.
Great service, nice waitress. We had a really nice time.
Good experience. Sat at the bar for a while. The bartender knew everyone, so obviously lots of regulars. Food was good, service acceptable. Will be back
Food arrived cold. Waitress kept trying to explain why instead of taking it back which she did do, however, she the message was that we were wring.
Loved my whole dining experience Wished for a little more room at my table Next time I would like to sit at a booth!
I had the St. Louis Bar-B-Que ribs and my friend had the filet mignon. The ribs were wonderful and was a large serving so I was able to take some home. However, the filet mignon was not so good. She found it was not as tender as it should have been and somewhat lacking in flavor. For desert we had the Chocolate Soufflé and it was outstanding. We like the Knickerbocker and will be back.
A go to must. Beautiful, comfortable dining room and fresh, authentic fare.
We had a bad experience with our waiter when we were there for dinner Saturday night. The food was great, her service was not.
We have been going to Knickerbocker for over 30 years and always had great food and service. Our recent visit the day before Halloween was special due to the extraordinary holiday decorations., Don't miss it.
I love it here. It’s classic. It’s delicious. Wait staff is impeccable. Martini is perfect.
Great Village gem! Always a pleasure. Love the booths, drinks, atmosphere.
Service makes the difference! Food good and booth was great for talking.
The Knickerbocker is always great. This time too. Excellent steak and sides. Pleasant staff. Good price. Ranks right up there among New York’s great steakhouses.
Great find, loved the decorations for Halloween. Clear reason why it’s a local favorite. Wife’s filet cooked to perfection, Crab cakes solid, salsa fresh and all topped off with live jazz.
Our favorite restaurant to bring out -of town friends to. Diversified menu, great drinks, something for everyone. Jazz music after 9 is an added treat!
We have been going to Knickerbocker for over 20 years and they have remained one of
Our favorite restaurants in the Village. Their food and service has been consistently excellent.
We always feel special when we dine at the Knickerbocker Bar and Grill.
One of my all time fave NYC haunts. With incredible steak. Like being on the Love Boat circle that era.
Second time at Knickerbocker. It was ok. Nice place. Good atmosphere. Good menu and specials. Food was just ok and candidly a bit pricey for what you got. I had Cuban sandwich and it was just ok. Not great value.
Great place to talk over dinner in a true New York institution.
I always enjoy the food and ambiance at the Knickerbocker. We’ve been going there for years. It’s our go-to place whenever we’re in NYC!
A real warm and welcoming Village favoite. Very cool decorations for Haloween. A terrific wait staff efficiently running dishes to everyone's tables. Fabulous food and a live jazz band kicks in at 8pm
A classic, timeless in the best ways: robust menu, first-rate food that starts with the best ingredients and is prepared with skill and talent, excellent wait staff, accomplished acoustic jazz combos soloing off vaguely familiar melodies, a comfortable room about which you end up feeling affectionate, a bar that's always full, in fact the place is often full yet accommodates walls-ins. If it ever went away, New York would be much the poorer for it.
