Knickerbocker Bar and Grill
Knickerbocker is known for its great Jazz and its 28 oz. T- Bone Steaks and is a favorite among many celebrities including F. Murray Abraham, Chris Noth and Alec Baldwin. Racheal Ray listed us in her "NYC Favorites" and has praised our Shrimp Cocktail, Creamed Spinach, and of course our T- Bone Steaks.
The word "Knickerbocker" itself, says "New York". Upon entering, you’ll know you're in the Village. Its wood paneled walls sport rare turn of the century posters and original caricatures by Al Hirschfield. Large leather booths line the walls and brass rails accent the 100 year old marble bar, where Charles Lindbergh signed his Trans Atlantic contract.
We have survived the times by using the freshest ingredients from local markets, and offering good solid value and quality. We serve until late (weekends 1:00 AM) and offer a Bistro Menu with lighter fare.
We offer Brunch on the Weekends, and are open on all Holidays.
Our server was not very attentive and billed us $45 more than our wine bottle cost which she corrected when I told her. My filet mignon and sauce arrived cold.
Amazing. The calves li over was exceptional!
still a go-to place that has a meal for every occasion and hunger level: good drinks, excellent food, attentive service and old fashioned atmosphere
Nostalgic Valentine Date - It was just as we expected. Comfort food and a sense of permanence.
The BEST steak in town!
t_bone steak, short ribs and chicken pot pie recommended. No wine list, server told us but no prices until we asked. Will return.
Had late brunch/lunch on a Sunday and the staff and service was great and attentive. It had a clubby, neighborhood feel with no pretentions. My companion said her salad and french onion soup was very good. I had the Eggs Knickerbocker but was disappointed as the poached eggs were over cooked, the yolk was not running at all. There was not enough hollandaise sauce and the smoked salmon was so small that the "soft-boiled egg" completely covered it. I know with the good service that the eggs and lack of hollandaise sauce issue would have been corrected if I said something but I just left it alone.
excellent service good music lovely room the salmon was a bit over cooked as were the ribs the lasagna was good the Snowball was not good
I love the place and go there often, but the noise level has gotten very high! Children are left to run loose with little parental supervision often bumping into folks at other tables......a little more concern for this would be welcomed by all.
Wonderful evening with perfect service
The best! A classic spot with fabulous food.
Fantastic as always!
I’ve been coming here for lunch and had enjoyed it very much. However , my first dinner experience here was very disappointing. The food was good but the service was another story. Basically, our server was absent most of the time. We only saw him when he got our order and when we got our bill. We were never asked if we need anything during dinner not if we care for coffee or dessert after our meal. I have to flag him to get another drink and finally our bill. It was not a pleasant experience.
My very favorite brunch place in NYC! Food is delicious and uniquely done start to finish. It's a hidden gem, a real neighborhood spot frequented by an older crowd. So glad the younger set hasn't discovered it!
Had a great steak, the portions are enormous. Slightly bizzare that their machine would not accept either a credit or debit card fortunately we had cash, apparently their machine plays up. I do find the taking a card away from the table to process the payment is odd, rather than bringing the card machine to the table. Perhaps there is no issue with card cloning in the US. I digress it a great restaurant, food was excellent, good selection of wines. Will go again next time I’m in NY.
I love this place- it’s my neighbors spot and staff is usually great. Our waiter was not the best- he seemed rushed and a little strangely instructive. He would walk up and start talking even when we were having a conversation. Usually people wait a second for customers to stop talking. Also, the chocolate soufflé was not as good as usual. But I will keep going back- the food is perfect and hits the spot.
Ana was the best waitress, so personable & competent. She offered my a free dessert since it was my birthday but I was too full so I was comped a glass of wine!
We ordered the T-bone for 2 which was perfect, just as good as Peter Luger’s. This is a consistently excellent restaurant, down to earth with great food & music.
Come to the "Real Greenwich Village."
Mix with the locals, good food, good drink, forever in trend...not trendy.
Try their signature steak with all the trimmings and fish of the day. Actually, all food selections are good.
Weekend Jazz...what could be better?
One of best steaks I’ve had in NYC. Great vibe and service.
Comfortable place for a great lunch. Always welcoming.
Terrific as always. The food is great. Terrific warm atmosphere. Top-notch service. Drinks are generous and they pay attention to our pretty fussy margarita requirements! We have eaten there for many years, generally a few times a week. Consistently a fun evening.
Great family steakhouse. Also great for adults only and friends. Super friendly hospitality. Lively but the noise level was fine. Even with the jazz that came on at 9:00, we were able to continue our conversations. It’s not a culinary adventure, but it completely delivers on what you expect it to be.
A Village institution. Never disappoints.
more than a neighborhood treat: retro ambiance, top flight service, excellent cocktails and food for grandparents and teens. what's not to like???
Great lunch -- we had a booth and were not rushed in any way.
Delicious food, excellent service, comfortable ambiance. Neighborhood gem!
Came for dinner here at 3:30 pm before 6pm performance of a Christmas Carol at the Merchant's House primarily because they serve dinner all day. it was quite a pleasant surprise! Roasted chicken with butternut squash and cherries was delicious as were the short ribs and house made eggplant lasagna. Food was definitely a notch above.
Great food, real neighborhood feel, not nearly as noisy as one might expect from a space this large. The staff is very New York, engaged enough to get you what you need, but a little rough around the edges. Overall, a real NYC old-school gem.
This IS our favorite restaurant. Always greeted warmly at the door by the host. Right now I have to get over New Year's Eve. We decided to come here to celebrate. Our server was a bit off this evening. After 20 minutes we had to ask who was going to serve us. After some confusion among the servers, 2 of them tried to take our orders. At the end of my meal, ( a t-bone, delicious) I had substantial left-over meat and of course the bone. Our server lost my leftovers and I was not able to take them home and enjoy them the next day. Instead of owning up(the busboy who packed my wife's leftovers did not fail this task thankfully), our waiter(who took my plate from the table I asked to take home) blamed the kitchen and offered to take our Chocolate Souffle $20 charge off the bill. I did not see an alternative. I didn't feel he cared all that much. Could have been the New Year, but at that point, the restaurant had begun to empty. I have always given Knickerbocker 5 stars. The food is AMAZING.
The Knickerbocker doesn’t disappoint. Great music and service and most of all great T-Bone steak!
I went with a friend that I hadn’t seen in a long time, and it was a perfect place to be! The waiter was very gracious, and understood that we were as interested in talking as we were in eating. Luckily it wasn’t jampacked, but it was fairly busy, and we never felt rushed in any way. The food was good, and presented in a timely manner. The martini I ordered was perfect.
I really love this place, especially on non-piano nights. The wait staff generally goes above and beyond without being at all intrusive. The food is excellent; try the chocolate soufflé. I returned after a gap of many years, and it remained as good as I remembered.
My husband’s birthday - we decided on brunch because the weather was supposed to get nasty, which it did. As usual, the food was great, the staff was warm and friendly, our waitress was a sweetheart, and once again we had a wonderful time with you. Thanks, Knickerbocker, for making a dreary day feel warm and sunny.
One of my favorite places for special occasion dinners or cocktails; it's one of those places we were all saying we're so grateful still exists in NYC. It's warm, welcoming, authentic. The servers are friendly and professional, the food and drinks are delicious, and the acoustics mean you can have a conversation even when the room is packed or the live piano is playing in the background. It's one of those very special places that is very New York. Especially lovely around the holidays.
The T Bone steak with onion rings was on point. The apps were great and the cocktails well made. Too much cream in the creamy spinach is a minor quibble on my part. Thanks for a memorable 9 person party!
Always delicious! Love the atmosphere! Village classic !
Great food and service in more traditional steakhouse setting (menu is much more than traditional steakhouse menu). Great live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
Friendly, neighborhood vibe ... will return against and again.
We tried everything from fish to steak to pasta and all were above average. Just an old school top notch restaurant!
We chose the Knickerbocker because we were traveling and wanted a good NYC steak experience. The Knickerbocker’s reviews were better and more consistent, especially from locals, than the better known NYC Steakhouses. Our service was outstanding and delivered cheerfully by every member of the staff. Despite arriving 30 minutes early for our reservation as a party of six, we were welcomed and seated quickly. We ordered the t-bone for three with fries, baked potatoes, asparagus, and creamed spinach to feed three adults and three children. The meal was cooked perfectly, served properly, and there was more than we could eat. We will be back on our next visit to the city!
Annual Christmas Day dinner.
