Kiwami in Studio City, CA is a favorite place to head for those seeking quality Japanese fare in the area. The restaurant features high-quality food that covers a wide range of tastes. Some of the options that might interest you include the seafood ceviche, yellowtail sashimi, grilled eggplant with albacore miso and the Maine lobster salad.
The soft-shell crab, rare garlic tuna steak and the shrimp and vegetable tempura are popular options at Kiwami, as well. Some of the dinner options at Kiwami that you might like include the chicken teriyaki and the beef teriyaki. Everyone should find something to enjoy.
Very good people and place. Very pleased with service and meal.
I would return. Only issue. Very LOUD!
Kiwami closes in the afternoon so you get a "last call" for food... which kind of spoiled our lunch (why accept reservations if they're going to run up against this time-frame?). Other than that the food was good.
One of my favorite sushi restaurants in the valley! Creative dishes and drinks. Keep up the good work. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Great menu- lots of lunch specials, and a special bento box that is great value. The menu is also very interesting- Can't wait to go back and try the foie gras with apples. What!? I know, crazy!
The sashimi itself was melt-in-your-mouth.
My aunt has gone here for years with a friend. Now it's my new favorite neighborhood gem.
Always great service and a comfortable climate controlled patio.
I have been going to Kiwami ever since it opened. It's just one of those sushi places you think about when you think of sushi. Everything on their menue is great. Great ambiance, amazing service. I have always encountered a celebrity there. Good food, never rushed, great service.
Great place!
Kiwami never lets us down! The food is divine and the service is always amazing.
Never disappoints. Fresh and innovative sushi. Always incredible and delicious. Try the specials.
This place is incredible! Some of the best fish I've ever had.
Kiwame's fish is always fresh and I swear the spicy tuna roll melts in my mouth!
Always amazing. I have dined here well over 100 times and just keep coming back for amazing food and service!! Just go and end the night with dessert which would be a Baked Crab Hand Roll...the Best!
We loved this place! Our server was delightful...well informed and very attentive. The food was excellent. We love sushi...so we know what we are talking about. Everything was fresh and delicious. The "snowy" saki was a perfect accompaniment as well. We will go back soon!
Every experience at Kiwami is a good one - provided you have a reservation! Fun, unique cocktails and the crispy rice, yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno and honey hand rolls are to die for.
Not sure if this was just a bad night or common practice. The service was beyond comical. The food server got our order wrong, forgot to bring things we did order, didn't bring water when we asked, didn't follow up when we received our incorrect order and continually brought other diners their orders before ours. The kitchen clearly didn't have their timing right and the busboys would bring over dishes but not know what the dishes were when we asked. Luckily the sushi chefs are incredible and the fish quality was high. Not sure if you can look away at the substandard service experience.
Service wasn't that good, but the sushi was fine
Kiwami is definitely one of our absolute favorite sushi places in the Valley. The prices are cheap, but the food is so worthy! We have never been disappointed in a meal, yet. The fish is fresh and perfectly prepared. Their special dishes are always interesting and delicious. If it's very busy, which it usually is, the service can be a little spotty. But, still - we return, over and over again.
I love Kiwame. I try to eat there at least several times a month. Quality fish and a unique, original menu -- which is really not that easy these days for a sushi restaurant to do. From the Katsu-ya family of restaurants so you know it's going to be good.
Among My Favorite Dishes:
Seared Garlic Albacore with Black Burgundy Truffle
Foie Gras with Sauteed Apple in Plum Wine Reduction
Warm Crab Roll
Spicy Tuna Roll with Warm Crab
Honey Roll
The Place is always packed but it's easy to get in if you make reservations and there always seem to be a few spots open at the sushi bar.
Service is excellent. Everyone is nice and attentive. Zero attitude.
Small but nice cocktail list and great saki options.
Ambience is not so much. Lighting on the bright side and the indoors room is not that big but big enough. There's a basic outdoors seating area that's tented to keep the parking lot from intruding on your meal.
Have a great time!
Everything we ordered was absolutely fresh, exquisitely crafted and promptly served. All servers were excellent. Hostess was gracious and helpful (we were running a little late and she still saved our table). It was a lovely dining experience.
The food and service at Kiwami are always excellent. You can't go wrong with the Katsu-ya inspired menu.
This is by far my favorite restaurant in the world. I've been to over 60 countries and nothing comes close. The service this time was average, because they were training new staff, but it's usually spot on. I'd still be back, because one bad service experience out of over a hundred is not bad!
Whether you are a sushi fan or not, the food at Kiwami is stellar. I tend to go for the specials on the white board (where else would you find salmon sashimi with truffle salt?), but everything is wonderful. Excellent staff. Can't wait to go back.
Amazing waitress and the best food!
Little place with great sushi. Good service . Bar area is nice place to watch the chefs.
So love this place. Great food and great service. Never ever disappoints.
Amazing as always.
Katsu ya gets way too busy so we come here! Food as just as good a bit more of a romantic spot but no big deal. Great food great service.
The food here is always amazing! Sometimes it is difficult to get a table for uncommon numbers (3, 5, 6, and 7) at peak times. The best thing to do is make a reservation for 4 people and call to request a change and they will almost always gladly change it -- so you still get your open table points. Usually the service is great but occasionally there will be an off night where they are much slower. The food, etc. is the exact same is it is at Katsu-ya down the block (and in Encino/Northridge) but the atmosphere is a lot more calm, relaxed, and quiet.
The great food of Katsu-ya with much better ambiance and not such a mad house.
I had been to Kiwami a couple of times a few years back when it first opened. Back then, the service was great and the food was excellent. Since it had been a while, I decided to check it out again and was greeted with a very disappointing experience.
I had made my reservation through OpenTable for 9:00 p.m. After checking in on time, and being told it would be a couple of minutes, my party of two wasn't seated until 9:30. As soon as we sat, we asked for water. Despite asking three times, the water never came.
Wish I could say the food was amazing, but the fish was unremarkable and the sushi rice was just plain soggy and overcooked, ruining each dish it was served with.
At the end of the night, feeling frustrated and still hungry, a $100+ bill was dropped in front of us for two lite beers and four small dishes.
Needless to say, I will never be going back to this restaurant.
Kiwami is a Katsu-Ya restaurant with better ambiance but the same fresh & creative sushi dishes. The Sashimi dishes were delicious and creatively prepared. The patio dining was a little noisy, but quieted down as it got later. Overall, good sushi & a pleasant dinner experience.
Go for the amazingly creative sashimi and sushi specials. For better service, ask for a table inside. Each time we've dined outside, service seems spottier.
Kiwami is our "go to" neighborhood, Japanese restaurant gem. The food over the years has always been consistently outstanding. The service is good, though occasionally a little slow. Not the cheapest, but certainly among the most delicious, restaurants around. Fish always tastes very fresh. Our kids love it, and they are very accommodating with finicky eaters. We highly recommend Kiwami, and look forward to running into you all there!!!
I got a reservation the day of for that night which is usually a bad sign of how good a restaurant is. But this is like Katsuya Ya (owned by it or something like that) so Katsu yummy without the long wait. At least for us. It was bustling with activity in a good way. Our waiter was great and made excellent siggestions. We were very happy with our meal and will definitely be back.
Love it. Ordered a good mix of nigiri and rolls and was very happy with the taste and presentation
Each dish is better than the next -the fish is fresh and the service is impeccable. We love it as a family and always bring our out of town guests.
food is always yummy. service not so much. Always understaffed during Dinning hours.
Was my favorite sushi place in the LA area, but this was not like previous visits. Hopefully, just an off night.
You can't beat it! From 5-6 PM, there are some great deals on sushi! GO! Avoid sitting inside near tables with screaming children. It ECHOES in there. Oof!
A little more crowded than usual, but food and service remain superb. Will revisit on every area visit.
