We have been to Kites at least 10 times over the years. Never an issue until this visit. Seated at 745 we did not leave until 935. Hotel was busy but restaurant was not. Several open tables the whole time we were there As soon as we were seated our drink order was taken and we ordered appetizers shortly after. Took 30 minutes for the waitress to come back and take the main course order. The appetizers came. Wings were good but sitting in a huge puddle of ranch -no good if you don't like ranch... Calamari was small rings and very very greasy. Crab cakes were very tiny for 15 bucks. Ask the guy who brought them out for a basket of bread. He disappears. We don't see bread until we ask the waitress 10 minutes later. 3 small pieces for 4 people... Main course comes. Can't get her attention for more drinks. Finally she sees us and brings another round. Does not take the old glasses. Now there are 3 rounds of coke glasses on the table. We tell her we want to wrap three plates. She takes two of them. Brings them back in boxes. We point at the third one. She disappears. Comes back with a box for my wife to box her own... She comes back and apologizes and says they will give us two desserts on the house. This is at 905pm. Fine. Take it to go. My kids leave to go play basketball. How difficult is it to put a piece of chocolate cake and a piece of Apple strudel in a box. At 915 my wife had enough and leaves. At 930-25 minutes after we were offered it, one of the managers comes over and tells me they don't have apple strudel anymore. You must be kidding me. 25 minutes to tell me? She apologized. I pointed out the plate of sauces left on the table from the appetizers as being indicative of our experience. She asked if there was anything they could do. She eventually took 20% off the bill. Not a good experience at all...

Absolutely terrible. The service was sub par, the temperature in the restaurant was ridiculously cold that my whole family had to wear their coats during our meal, when we complained to the manager, she told us she was cold too... was that supposed to make us feel better? They charged a high price to eat on NYE, which we have no issues with, however, if you are going to charge high price for a fixed menu, the food should reflect the price. The soup was the only decent thing served. After that it was a complete disaster. The salads came without all the listed ingredients and when we asked for them, the kitchen had to " make" the additional items which arrived after we were half done with the salad. Then the main entre steaks were all over cooked and a poor piece of meat. The desserts which should have been the easiest thing were terrible. our serve never offered our kids a desert choice, never asked If we wanted coffee, but promptly gave us a bill with the gratuity included. Again, I have no problem with the price, but the food, service and restaurant ambiance was awful. I will never go there again.

We were staying at the Grand Cascades lodge and decided to take the shuttle to Kites for breakfast. The waitress and staff were polite, and they attended to us promptly. However, the food was awful. The breakfast potatoes tasted as though they were old or previously frozen. In addition, our bagels appeared to be stale because they were hard as rocks. Two members of our party also felt their coffee was cold. Upon completing my meal I had to use the bathroom and it wasn't pretty. It was very disappointing since only 2 restaurants were open at Crystal Springs during our stay.

The worst calamari we ever ate, coated in batter for onion rings and further ruined by a nasty taste of raw flour. As much as we hate to waste food, we had to leave half of it untouched. After that disaster we revised our main course plans and decided to split an order of filet mignon, minimizing risks by asking the waitress to forego the «stout demi-glace». That turned out to be a wise decision as the meat was nicely cooked, albeit weakly seasoned and lacking in charred flavor. The steak was accompanied by decently cooked but unremarkable spinach and the coup de grâce, what was labelled as «Cheddar smashed potatoes», appeared a yellowish, shapeless heap of mortar waiting for the mason's trowel, and tasted no better, a mess of underdone chunks of potatoes and large pieces of skin glued together with nondescript cheese. We were unable to proceed past one forkful apiece. Fortunately we had overheard the head waitress describing the crème brûlée (the dessert special) as «kind of like soupy ice-cream, didn't come out too good» to another table, which dispensed us from being tempted to order it. A memorable experience, in that it made us feel as two Gordon Ramseys in an episode of «Kitchen Nightmares».

Kites is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. The food is pretty good (especially the sweet potato fries) and the atmosphere is quite nice. I enjoyed the REAL Christmas tree and the white lights that are strung around the entire resort. Our table was waited on by Barbara, who took great care of us. My family enjoy dinner, and the staff at kites couldn't have been better.

Disappointed we were there for dinner but they wouldn’t serve it at that time 4 o’clock my mistake. The hummus recipe was not classic and tasted bland, the marinara sauce is way too sweet , Pizza no better than frozen supermarket quality, the fries were soggy and the fish mushy (fish and chips). Service slow towards the end.

Ordered the veg tempura and fried calamari - both seemed like frozen food. Tempura was not even tempura - just breaded zucchini and mushrooms - TERRIBLE .. Had pasta for dinner - no flavor. Would not recommend. We were very disappointed.

I was disappointed after my visit. I have taken my wife there for our anniversary for 3 years now because it was the resort we stayed at when we got married at ballyowen. We ordered a Mac and cheese appetizer and it came to the table as a bowl of curly pasta and cheesy water. And it was 12 dollars. The steaks we had were very good. The desert my wife had was the apple crisp and it was so chewy she could cut into it easily. I think it was microwaved instead of warmed in the oven. I haven't had any problems there before so this is why I am so disappointed. I only go there once a year and it's an hour away. Because of this I do not think I will be coming back.

Experience was just so-so. My husband and I stayed at the Minerals Hotel and came down around 930 - 10am for breakfast. We were seated immediately, and served beverages right away. They were out of crepes, so we were a little disappointed but found something else. My husband's order of pancakes was not that great (pretty tasteless) and the waitress disappeared for a considerable amount of time. Fortunately I had ordered eggs with bacon and they did give me a large portion so he shared mine. My order was fine, but it was a little aggravating waiting to get his fixed. By the time the waitress returned, we were just ready to get our day started. She was very apologetic and did kindly take his off the bill, and we noticed at the table next to us that they also had left their pancakes untouched. So just a note to avoid ordering pancakes. Overall I think if you keep it simple here and stick with breakfast basics you might be ok, and if you can carry conversation for a while you won't notice the service is slow. But there's room for improvement, at least for breakfast hours.

Dinner was good. We had great service and the food was served promptly. The morning buffet was not as good. The fruit was not fresh and the coffee was extremely strong. The power went out when we were eating but it was rebooted within 15 minutes. I would recommend it for a casual night out but not for any special occasions.

We were a party of 8, who had a reservation for 8 pm. We waited 20 minutes to even be seated, once seated and ordered, 7 meals came out and the 8th did not. By the time the 8th meal came out everyone else was finished eating. Ordered drinks were never delivered. At 10pm on fridays and Saturday's there's entertainment and the noise level sky rockets. We waited over an hour for someone to bring our check after telling 4 people 4 separate times about it, and then it was not correct.

The quality of the food was terrible. The chicken on the pizza we ordered was dry and looked like the frozen grilled chicken strips. Our appetizer was a sampler which didn’t come with what was stated on the menu and we had to send it all back did not taste good and did not seem fresh but frozen quality. And the reason we were given that is wasn’t what was stated on the menu was a typo. The only good things were the drinks we got and the hostess was very sweet.

We arrived early at 8am and there was only one family with a young child in the restaurant. After a few minutes o chasing the child around, they settled in for breakfast. Excellent breakfast menu. Tasty, well prepared and enjoyed by our table. Coffee could be improved - generic! Server initially reserved (grumpy) but she warmed up! Could have been the early hour!

Food was well over priced, fish was dry, flatbread pizza was nothing even close to a flatbread pizza (more like a frozen pizza with a few tomatoes on top) The restaurant had 1 other table in it and we requested to sit by the window and the host gave us a bit of a hard time when we requested a window table.

The pictures we saw online and at the lodge looked great but pictures can do wonders. Don't waste your money at this place.

Enjoyed breakfast the following morning. Excellent crepes and blitzes! Some glitches during the evening meal on Sunday, spoiled the experience. No kale in the kale salad and no explanation or option to choose another item before the salad is was served and as I was with two children me, I did not want to reorder. My speciality coffee (a $10 item) as my children were finishing their dessert and the coffee was Luke warm. Service could have been better!

My husband and I had a kid free date night dinner at Kites. This was a disaster! We waited 1.5 hrs for our entrees. Appetizer and salad were average and when entrees finally came out, my husbands shrimp were overdone and my order was wrong. Waiter offered us a free round of drinks and bread because of the wait, but for the price of an entree I was not impressed and I'm not a picky diner.

Being the only dining option, we really had no choice. Salmon and steak were both way over cooked, 1 single mushroom in the mushroom risotto and the potatoes with the steak were burnt and soggy at the same time (?) The server and manager were both very nice and attentive and it seemed not worth complaining as we were starving and tired. DJ and bar were a lot of fun afterwards, though the bartenders could take a personality lesson from the servers and manager.

Terrible food. Server was great. Felt bad his talent was wasted. Seriously the food was awful, very fishy shrimp pasta, was unsure if it was a sauce they used or if it was bad shrimp, salmon entree was overcooked and very dry, and another pasta dish was all stuck together is a giant lump of noodles. Quite honestly, I never ever leave reviews, but by far the worst meal I have ever eaten. We called ahead to make sure they were serving their "full menu" and when we got there, the menu was not what was on their website. In fact, it was limited, as the server confirmed, which was not what was told over the phone. All the food tasted like it was cooked weeks ago and reheated in the same pan as they cook their burgers in for 3 weeks without cleaning. Everything was burnt, dried out, over salted and made you wonder, what was that "interesting" flavor in their? We all had a good laugh at least taste testing eachother's plates and to see who won worst dish and why (while barely able to swallow the food). My father asked the waiter for cocktail sauce for shrimp and what ended up on the table was no way that (we don't know what it was, which pretty much was the theme of our plates as well)! We drove there to enjoy the view but unfortunately they never bothered to clean the windows from last spring so we looked out the window and admired the thick layer on the glass of who knows what. The place was dirty and probably should be the next ambush on "Restaurant Impossible". Crystal Springs should be embarrassed that this is a part of their restaurant group. The food, ambiance and everything that makes a restaurant a good experience was a complete miss, and that is putting it nicely.

Honestly the place "looks" nice, but I would not recommend this place for date night out. For starters there seemed to be a shortage on staff which put a delay on orders. Tables were constantly looking around for their waitress. Understaffed issues reflected on waitress's face, we definitely did not receive a welcoming vibe. There are up scale prices for low quality food. My sons side of fruit seemed to be canned fruit (not fresh), our hummus most likely packaged hummus which was served with carrot bits instead of the pita chips that was listed on the menu, and the personal pie reminded me of microwave pizza I had as a kid, can not be compared to a bar pie at your favorite bar or pub. Our drinks tasted watered down but very strong. Needless to say we only got as far as trying appetizers and did not order anything else from the small menu. We left soon after we took the check from the bartender who had to leave the bar and come to our table to close us out. The only reason I gave this place an overall 2 stars was because the girl who greeted us was very nice and smiled the whole time, and the view was nice. Folks, this is supposed to be a "resort and spa".

Biggest pet peeve is when you order a burger medium and it comes well done and as hard as a hockey puck. Happened to all the burgers ordered for my wife and kids.

At least my salad was delicious.
