For birthday celebration. Had short ribs only boo Hoo was thought it would be on bone? But more like a roast. My friend had rib eye which was great and other had burger which loved. Hoping summer can utilize outdoor patio .
Four world-traveling friends on a hunting weekend. What a find - and surprise.
Great food and attentive staff
Food quality was mediocre for the price paid. Seating is uncomfortable both physically and socially; too close together for intimate dining and carrying on quiet conversation. Open floor-plan lends well to groups. Service was quite good.
Third trip. When we are staying at local hotels to catch an early morning flight we make a point of having dinner @ this restaurant.
Crab cakes ok, salom very good and the beet salad very good. Very nice find in Woodland.
They have a thing for doors there all over the ceiling.
Had a great experience because Melissa, our server, was awesome. She certainly made you feel very happy to be there and very important to her. She juggled all her tables and all our queries in stride. Will always ask for her next time I go in!
Food is locally sourced, lots of organic and dependably good. I downgraded overall review because the menu choices, which, with the exception of daily specials, have remained essentially the same in the three years I've lived here. It would be nice to change it up and perhaps introduce new offerings or rotate. Otherwise, it becomes boring and predictable. Woodland could certainly use a bit more variety and excitement in the cuisine area! The decor is beginning to look a bit worn, and might do with a little sprucing up, also. And get some yummy desserts -- there are a few awesome vendors in Davis and Winters, if owner prefers to outsource while pondering pastries!
We dined at 428 since it is a block from the Woodland Opera House where we had tickets. Our reservation was honored and the 2 of us got a 4-top, so plenty of room, and the noise level was good. Food was very good, a little salty for our taste but we enjoyed the baked brie, wedge salad, short ribs and pork loin. Service was good, but mains came a minute before we finished our salads; better pacing would have been appreciated. Overall, a very good dinner, and we plan to return.
Between our over spirited server along with being seated next to a table of 6 who failed to mute their phones (many texts and phone calls came in) ... we couldn’t wait to get out of there. Food too salty and baked brie burned on the bottom.
Always a great meal and friendly, helpful staff. Food was excellent as usual.
Unfortunately my stuffed lobster was so undercooked, it was uneatable. The spring vegetables were roasted into oblivion and the couscous though tasty, was barely warmed up. Another at our table had to send the cioppino back because it was cold and two of the others got surf & turf and their lobster was under cooked as well. They were very apologetic, comped two of our meals and offered a free desert, but being a bit queasy from eating some of the raw lobster I declined. The food seemed like it was all cooked ahead and reheated, but not very well. We went with two other couples all of us celebrating anniversaries and we didn't get so much as a Happy Anniversary. One of the couples has been here several times before and will probably go again, but it was a disappointment that we won't repeat soon.
Dinner was a get-together with an old college friend. As usual the service and food were good and the ambiance is always charming. My stuffed salmon was excellent but my friend's lobster was tough and grisly. When she told our waiter, he and the manager comped our dessert that night and for the next time my friend was there. I think this was the first time I have ever had a problem dining here and they were immediately on top of the situation.
Excellent selection, service and food. Very friendly.
Kitchen 428 is a great combination of great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. We are always pleased at 428 and you can know you are going to have a great evening!
My husband and I took my Mom and her best friend out to lunch for Valentine's Day. We had a great lunch - the seafood sandwich is amazing. We love that Christy serves wine from a local winery - Matchbook. Yummy!
We're lucky to have this great restaurant in Woodland. Great food, excellent staff, and ambiance all at a reasonable price.
First time dining in Woodland (after a move from the Bay Area), on par with good dining in larger metropolitan areas. Service was exceptional, food excellent. Two of us enjoyed te Monkfish special (it's been years since I've seen Monkfish as an option on a menu - loved it); one of us had the Eggplant tagine - perfect for the GF vegan in the party. This will be a favorite go to spot!
We had a lovely birthday celebration at Kitchen 428. The wait staff was attentive, knowledgable, and friendly. The cocktails, prime rib and cioppino were excellent. We love this local spot!
Nice little place. Great Woodland location. Good food. Nice servers
loved it! literally the best dinner I have ever had
The restaurant has lots of charm, food was good and we enjoyed our time there ! We would definitely return.
Service and attitudes were absolutely terrible. Plan to depend excessive time here, servers are non-existent. The food is decent quality but until they rectify customer service, I'd consider getting food to go.
Birthday dinner for a family friend. Kitchen 428 has consistently great food and friendly great service. Also excellent menu variety, satisfied range of tastes from hard core meat eaters to picky plant eaters!
From the appetizer to dessert the meal was outstanding. We sat in the bar and had drinks and an appetizer prior to our dinner reservations. Recommend the cinnamon pear mimosa and warm spinach artichoke dip with toasted crisini. The fresh salmon stuffed with shrimp, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes was on point. Opted to share the creme brulee for dessert. Best ever. Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.
The atmosphere is great and also the food and wine.
Great food and excellent service. This was my second visit and I will be visiting again.
Lunch with business associates, service was quite good and food very good. Would recommend with pleasure.
Great restaurant. The food is always excellent with lots of choices. They usually have s fresh fish special of some kind. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The price is reasonable for the quality of the food.
We were very disappointed in the food. I ordered a hamburger medium and it was very well done. My wife ordered the chicken bacon sandwich and the bottom bun was soaked with the
sauce making it very difficult to eat. We won't return...
This was our second visit to Kitchen428 in the past month! Both times the service and food has been phenomenal. Tonight we took my in-laws with us and could not have been happier! We will definitely be making this one of our go to family restaurants!
We have now visited three times (lunch and dinner) with three different sets of friends. Consistently pleased with the wait staff and the food. Great menu selections and great value. Patio dining was our favorite as we brought our dogs and enjoyed the outdoor setting. I hope they can maintain the quality and retain their fine staff. It makes for a great experience.
My friend and I had a very relaxing lunch with great food. Never had a bad meal here.
Very nice atmosphere and wonderfulfood and service
Drove out from Davis based on reviews. What a terrific meal!!! I had the ribeye-YUM! Tender and full of flavor. Hub had short rib and friend haddock. Both were also excellent but I think I had the best dish!. Price is moderate to high for the area but worth it.
Kitchen 428 is one of our favorite restaurants in Woodland. It is always good. Good wine list.
We make a point of dining here before a theater performance. The menu dishes are all good as are the specials and service is attentive. We prefer the front dining rooms, the back sometimes gets a little noisy. Probably Woodland's best fine dining.
Everything was perfect. The white linens in the bar. Polenta Fries. Prime Rib. Service. Great time!!!
a great place in an old building, eclectic, great food, great service and right downtown Woodland........
Our group ordered Spring Rolls as an appetizer and the veggies were so CRISP and FRESH bursting with flavor. Sure tasted like Farm-to-Fork all right! Plus The Roasted Vegetable Panini served on Rosemary Focaccia is one of my favorite items.
