Neighborhood (Mission/Castro) dining, lunch so popular the line stretches onto the sidewalk; but they take reservations for dinner. Our superannuated party of 4 arrived on time at 5:30 PM, were promptly seated, and the service was good (server explained the exotic menu to us). The only downside was the noise level which became so loud by the time we left at 7 that a 747 taking off from SFO would be shamed. We could not converse after about 6PM (This was on a Sunday eve).
Way too loud!!!! Very hard to hear the servers and the person I was having dinner with. The Calamari was quite good. The entrees were very disappointing. The components of each dish tasted ok but when they were slopped together in a soup bowl everything become soggy. I'll never return.
Burger was delicious. Salads were beautiful. All in all a great local lunch place.
Food was excellent, but they didn't pace the food well. Bacon came 10 minutes before pancakes. When asked if they could bring it with pancakes, they just put it under the food warmer. Eggs Benedict also came out of the kitchen at least 5 minutes before the pancakes, and that just stayed under the warmer. Our server was very friendly, but one of the other servers who helped deliver food to the table had a constant scowl on her face. Rock music playing loudly didn't seem to match the upscale decor.
The food was fantastic! Creative, fun, and great service. Will absolutely come back.
So frigging good!
Delicious food, good service, very noisy. Loved the bloody mary made with soju, especially bc it comes with a slab of that great bacon.
Upscale white women who came in and had cake asked to be put in fridge were just so needy and loud and one of the young ladies was constantly looking behind her purse to make sure it was still there when I was on a date with my girlfriend this was on the afternoon of 12pm but other than that my experience was very well
I am never disappointed eating at kitchen story. Every time I go I'm seated quickly, my food comes out in a timely matter, and the service is always great!
Fabulous food. Went for dinner, everything we ordered was perfectly cooked and came out in a timely fashion. Price is reasonable for San Francisco. Small setting but that doesn’t put a damper on anything. Did feel a little rushed to order but I think that was just our waitress was of being attentive. Again food is so good. I’ve also heard really good things about their brunch!
Food and ambiance were amazing! I love this place for a nice date night or for a fun time with friends.
Great food but too noisy to have any kind of
Conversation. Not a place for a leisurely dinner because the restaurant tries to rush
Good food and service but the seating is jammed together. We were 5 at a table and barely had room for our plates. The Feisty Chicken bowl is worth trying as well as the bacon wrapped scallops.
Bad (very bad) service and seriously over priced breakfast food. We did the bottomless mimosa thing but had to beg for the 2nd pitcher. The food was tasty though! But I would not go back. If I’m going to be ignored, I’m certainly not paying $18 for 2 eggs and bacon!
Very noisy, food was average, they got the wine wrong and it was opened without showing us the bottle, we wouldn’t go back mainly because of the noise.
Everything was just ‘ok’.
Service was great and fast. Food was just ok
They sat us 15 minutes late and ignored us for the first ten minutes we were waiting, even though we had a reservation. The waiter was extremely rude both in the way he spoke to us and practically ripped the menus from our hands when we were done. The food was poor. They also did nothing for the birthday even though they called to confirm we had a birthday on that reservation.
Our first time and it was AWESOME! All of the waiters / staff were so nice, friendly, helpful. The food was amazing too! Loved it!
Food was delicious. Started with their take on Tom Yum soup, hot and sour, which was delicious and full of seafood and fresh vegetables. I had the panyang curry with crispy pork belly. So good! I’ll definitely be coming back.
Absolutely amazing food and ambiance! Try the fried french toast that is stuffed with mascrapone!
Our first experience overall was lovely and delightful. We visited KS for brunch and lunch while we were visiting Castro District. We were seated right away for brunch and our waiter Kip was polite and attentive, for brunch and lunch. Our first brunch, we ordered Belly Ranchero and Frisco Benedict and it was tastefully delightful. The two Bloody Mary is a must to taste. Our second visit for lunch, we ordered Bulgogi burger and mom’s Benedict-another amazing meal. I would recommend KS and would be back again in our next visit..
Food was spoiled by overly sweet and cloying sauces. Most dishes didn’t come together. Service, while very fast, was totally indifferent. Techno music was grating on the ears.
My friends ask me what is my favorite restaurant in my area and I always tell them Kitchen Story.
Everything we had was delicious. Would go back again.
Nice neighborhood restaurant with fresh yummy Asian inspired food.
"Castro Tower" is one of the Most Delicious! dishes I've ever tasted...will go back just for that. My friend said his pad thai was wonderful. Our party was rushing to a nearby movie so didn't have time to explore more dishes, but look forward to doing so in the near future.
Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! Delicious!
No idea how this place is staying open. Gloppy, uninspiring and overpriced. Won't go back.
Good appetizers and fried things. Coconut soup a bit sweet, noodle soup was good. We learned eggplant salad means it is braised not cooked soft! Ribs were good. Nice happening party ambiance.
I've been to Kitchen Story twice and had great experiences both times. The food is tasty, and the service is great! The first time, I had a red curry which was the perfect amount of spicy (just enough to make my lips tingle!), and the second time I had the sexy Hawaiian (so much shrimp!). Appetizers were excellent, and the service was friendly. It's a great spot!
I will not be visiting this restaurant again. The service was horrible and they were very rude to my friend and I. They also racially profiled me. 👎
The menu was varied and imaginative. The food was tasty and portions are generous.
Overall, it is a good place to go when you are hungry and want a variety of choices, including some very interesting Asian-inspired dishes. The only downside is that seating is quite cramped and the restaurant noise level is high. It is hard to have a conversation without shouting.
Stopped by because it looks ever so festive and cozy. The menu is unusual, which is great. It's an Asian fusion type restaurant, with some very random seeming ingredients in traditional meals. This is kind of exciting! The service is trying but seems over worked. The food was interesting but not 5 stars. I'll go back.
A quick bite to eat mid-week. Food was great and we enjoyed our time together with good service.
The food was good and the service was prompt but unfriendly. The drink I ordered did not come as described in the menu and was missing the "sugared berry rim" which it really needed to be any good.
I have passed this restaurant many times and there is always a good crowd. On Sunday mornings, the line to get in is quite long. I went for a weekday lunch with a friend visiting and we both loved the food. Great menu. Super service. Excellent food. Definitely a must try and, for me, a must return!
Truth to be told this establishment is worthless and not worthy of anyone’s time nore money. Overprice tasteless food.
The food was beyond amazing! I will definitely go back.
