What Insiders Are Saying
Yes, there will be a wait at Kitchen Story in the Castro. But there’s millionaire’s bacon at the end of it.
Great dinner--loved the Castro tower and the overnight short rib noodle soup!
Omg I loooove this spot! Just went for the first time last time from all the hype and it's spot on! I ordered the Castro sea and it was so freaking good, pretty much everything around me looked good to. Service was great, food was pretty quick too! This is like the best Asian fusion spot, I'll def be back!
Very average food. This is not a Californian restaurant more like an pan-Asian one. I found it very heavy and not particularly tasty.
I have had previous meals there that were really great. I had the Salmon this time and it was tough, overcooked, and flavorless.
The food was great and the service was awesome.
Food was just OK. The service seemed untrained and distracted. Asked for a second glass of wine that never arrived.
We had a great dinner here a couple weeks ago. This time, it was a mixed bag. Service was weirdly slow. Some of the foot was quite good (Castro tower), sone quite meh (pad Thai).
Great food, service, decor, vibe and wine list -- super friendly too. Will be back!!
The bacon scallops and burger were amazing! The service was excellent and very accommodating.
Decor and ambiance are very inviting and interesting. Food was delicious and price was just right. We will definitely go back!
Great service. Excellent food. Not too noisy, but lively.
Was hard flagging down our waiter but I’m sure he was busy. Bussers were short at times. Amazing food, I got the French toast and my group split a fiesta bowl. Great drink! Everything was delicious. Fair prices for how good the food is.
Food was decent but not wow. I would expect a $24 pad Thai to be outstanding and it wasn’t. Samosas were delicious as were the pumpkin fries.
Service was brusque.
Great restaurant in the Castro.
Food is super delicious: we had a red curry with tofu and the Kitchen Story soup - both highly recommended. Also the raspberry lemonade with a slice of lemon.
Lovely service, great Californian interior.
Everything was fantastic! I highly recommend the Bacon Wrapped Scallops.
Overpriced and underwhelming
This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of SF. I have been coming since the restaurant opened. I brought a friend there recently whom just moved to SF a couple of months ago. I am always excited to bring people to share the experience, taste the great food, and since its my favorite. I must admit this past visit, I was a bit disappointed and so was my friend. There were staple items that were no longer on the menu. I bragged about these items to my friend prior. The salmon was not to his satisfaction - overcooked and dry. The service however is always spectacular.
Service and food are one of the best in the city! Kitchen story is one, if not, one of my favorite restaurants! Flavors are bold and unique. Can’t find one that’s even close to it.
The food was full of flavor and the service was great1! Towards the end of our meal the place started to fill up, it's definitely a popular spot.
Our waiters were outstanding!
Ambiance overall was okay and most of the food was good but they dropped the ball on one of our entrees. They didn't put one our entrees in and then rushed itonce they noticed when the other meals came out. When it finally came out about 15 minutes after the others it was undercooked. The worst part is the service never addressed that they made an error and just tried to rush to get it out. They briefly apologized for the undercooked meal but missed on understanding how to provide customer service. Unlikely to return.
My guests did not enjoy the food or service. Food was undercooked and it arrived at different times.
Normally a good experience was wiped by an unfavorable experience with friends we brought from out of town. The night started off on the wrong foot before even entering. We got to the front and overheard a customer complaining about the noise level. (After being seated, we did notice it was really loud that night) We walked in and there was no host to be found. There was a group of employees standing towards the back talking. When an employee did come to the front, greeted a group and sat a group that walked in after us. Then our food came out and our pad thai was so dry we ended up having to send it back. There was only 1 employee that seemed to make an effort to be helpful. Don't know that I will return here. Sad because we actually did like coming here, but not if this is going to be experience moving forward.
Great unique food and excellent service . We loved the unique flavors of the food.
Very flavorful food. Could accommodate my gluten free request. Service attentive. Would recommend to others and also would go back.
Great time, great food
Went for dinner - very bland and disappointing meal. Food looked pretty but didn't follow up with flavor to match. Place felt tired, past its prime, and the staff was indifferent. Seems like its coasting on an outdated reputation.
What a wonderful restaurant. Great creative menu. Food was robust and full of flavor. Excellent. We will be back.
Good food and fun place! Millionaires bacon is awesome!
Mediocre food and service. Chicken gave me an upset stomach. Server was not very attentive.
It was great. We will go back staff was very friendly! The food was amazing!
Excellent food. Must try the eggs Benedict.Great quick service.
Always great food and service!!
We loved eating at Kitchen Story! The bacon was out of this world and the eggs Benedict was so good! We will definitely be returning.
The food was tasty and the service accommodating. Would definitely return to Kitchen Story.
Superb breakfast with imaginative menu. We'll be back!
Excellent Asian fusion especially with the dancing queen and tsunami spaghetti in how they how balanced and blended the spicy and sweet together nicely. The Open face was pretty large with a pretty presentation. Great portion size for other dishes people had to bring half home.
The food was really good but I thought the service was sub par. They seemed too busy to pay attention to us. However, Dessert Story next door (their sister restaurant where you eat dessert) was awesome! Service was great and the desserts had an awesome presentation. I would go back there in a heartbeat.
Birthday with friends!
