Kitchen Story Ratings and Reviews
The menu was varied and imaginative. The food was tasty and portions are generous.
Overall, it is a good place to go when you are hungry and want a variety of choices, including some very interesting Asian-inspired dishes. The only downside is that seating is quite cramped and the restaurant noise level is high. It is hard to have a conversation without shouting.
Stopped by because it looks ever so festive and cozy. The menu is unusual, which is great. It's an Asian fusion type restaurant, with some very random seeming ingredients in traditional meals. This is kind of exciting! The service is trying but seems over worked. The food was interesting but not 5 stars. I'll go back.
I have passed this restaurant many times and there is always a good crowd. On Sunday mornings, the line to get in is quite long. I went for a weekday lunch with a friend visiting and we both loved the food. Great menu. Super service. Excellent food. Definitely a must try and, for me, a must return!
Found this while looking for places to eat near a concert we were attending. Took one look at the diverse menu and new it was the best place for my crew: a vegetarian, a seafood lover, and a guy cutting out red meat & carbs. We all were happy with the selection. I was blown away with the pumpkin fries! They were gone before I had the chance to instagram them :)
This was a great surprise. We chose it because it is close to the Castro Theater where we were going to see Art Garfunkle through the Commonwealth Club. What a fantastic surprise. The food was outstanding. I had a seafood dish with great sauce and rice that had just enough hot spice to make it interesting. I also tried their Bloody Mary which was a great choice. It was also spicy enough and not too much alcohol because it was made with the Japanese rice whisky. There was actually too much food for all of us (3). The Asian influence made for tasting sensations. We will be back. A great treat and a great find.
Not the warmest welcome, but great food, and friendly service. Different staff members greeted me at different times, but tables were not cleaned or set promptly. Menu is extensive, and the plates are impressive. Healthy, Asian influenced, ample portions, and moderate to higher prices. Quality is commensurate, and presentation is Foodie-worthy. Dining room can be noisy. Patio is large enough for parties of 4 or 6.
Just moved to SF after living in Paris. Everything on this menu looked so much more appealing that the traditional French restaurants. Had the millionaire's bacon & short ribs. Ooh la la were they good. Will be back many times to try out the rest of the menu.
Amazing how even with reservations, we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated and because they seated other diners who were waiting, WITHOUT RESERVATIONS, but was a bigger party than us. They should change this practice pronto. People who spent time being responsible and making reservations should always be give priority to those who just show up.
Me and my best friend spent $80 including tips for a simple lunch, literally nothing special! I felt scammed, the food was not good it was way too sweet and my friend didn't even eat his meal. I also ate 1/4 and took it in a to-go box to give to a homeless person. Very disappointed, how does this place even have lines out the door? The flavors are so confusing my palette did not like it, gross!
We had a very bad experience with our server. We were entertaining out of town guests who are visiting for professional reasons. Our waiter rushed us through the meal at a ridiculous pace. Our bill came to $140 dollars for 4 people, and we were then aggressively asked to leave our table to accommodate people waiting, after we had only been seated for a total of 90 minutes. I left very disappointed. I alerted the senior staff to our concerns. The waiter came running out after us in a very troubling manner desperate for feedback, almost panicked by the fact that we had spoken about him in a negative way to the manager. The staff at this restaurant needs better training, especially given the price point of this establishment. We will not be going to this restaurant again.
We made reservations for 10:15p. They were slow and had wanted to close earlier but for our reservation. Needless to say we got LOUD and OBNOXIOUS attitude from the host. We were hungry and ate as fast as we could. The whole experience was just bad. We come here often, but this time the rude behavior from the host was just unacceptable. If you are slow, then that's YOUR problem. A customer should never be made to feel like an inconvenience. Maybe the host needs another job where he does not have to interact with the public.
While I love Thai food, this place was okay and not great. It seemed that it was lacking essential spices that make the food authentic. Also, our waiter was not at all interested in being of service at our table. Very impatient when we were ordering, did not make eye contact, very short in his answers, no smiles. Our server was the petite gentleman with black hair and colored contact lenses. My husband and I agreed we would not go back. Try a little harder, your customers will appreciate it. Excellent service can sometimes balance out okay food and make the overall experience positive, but unfortunately not in this case.
This was the 4th time I tried to eat at this restaurant. Again they had problems with electrical and had to close for the evening. Maybe they should make sure they have all mechanical and electrical upgrades in place before accepting reservations or opening their doors for business. I don't think I will be trying this restaurant at all. I just can't seem to get a break. The manager was very polite and gracious thought, offered me a 10% discount when and I do come back.
