Changed the menu - wasn’t to happy
We had an excellent meal at Kitchen Step for my husband's birthday! We had the wings, mac and cheese, bibb lettuce salad and the black bass - each dish was absolutely delicious and we would recommend all of them!
Food and staff are fabulous! Best restaurant in downtown JC!!
Amazing / good is great and service is better
Best restaurant in JC!!
Lovely neighborhood spot with a thoughtful menu & fun cocktails! Great for both dinner with a friend, or romance with someone special.
I had been to this establishment 4 years before, under a different identity or management, I'm not sure. I was not very pleased with the experience then. However, this time it was a great experience. The charming host immediately greeted us and led us to our table. The service was attentive, and the food was delicious. It made for a perfect birthday date with my wife.
Always great to eat here. Best food and best service. Tammy is a gem! Can't wait to go back.
Waitress was forgetful and it wasn’t busy. Maybe she was having an off day. Food was very good and one of us was vegan and they did a great job helping her accommodating.
Had been previously. Decided to return to treat a friend for their birthday. Was seated promptly. Katrina, our server was excellent...she explained gluten free and vegan options for one of our party. Food was delicious. Unique twist on Chicken and waffles, but they were quite good. Will return!
Kitchen Step is a casual bistro. but the food and service are top-notch. The cuisine is creative and beautifully prepared, and is mostly locally sourced. Among the small plates, the chicken-fried mushrooms provided a unique and deliciously savory taste treat, and the strawberry gaspacho was nuanced and most satisfying for a warm summer's evening. Our large plates included Barnegat scallops, with shaved carrots, radish, roasted peppers and bacon marmalade -- amazing! The 14-oz pork chop with swiss chard, parmigiano spaetzle, and morello cherry mostarda was thick, savory and moist -- cooked to perfection. Service was spot-on. Kitchen Step's indoor dining area is narrow storefront that is a little tight, but it's nicely decorated and ultimately, comfortable. (The restaurant also offers sidewalk seating in the warm months.) If you like delicious, creative cuisine served in a casual atmosphere, this is the place to go. It's among the best foodie destinations in the burgeoning Jersey City restaurant scene.
Our favorite restaurant in JC! Every entree is amazing. We especially love the hangar steak and branzino (when they have it)!
Delightful place. Very convenient to J City theaters new venue so it’s a really great evenings. Great wine list with many moderately priced choices that are quite nice. The drinks are unique and excellent. The chicken fried mushrooms were light and crispy with the mushroom liquid still inside. I had the mussels frites which were excellent. My wife had the soft shell crab appetizer which looked brilliant but was too good for me to get any. Topped with pistachio gelato made for a great dinner. Service was really attentive and helpful.
Wonderful. Favorite restaurant in JC
Fantastic food, great service, and always a pleasure to see what new delights have been added to the menu. The new chicken mushroom is TO DIE FOR!! I always enjoy the croissant french toast. The new maanger came over and introduced himself and was absolutely delightful! The chef provided us with a specially food that BEYOND amazing and delicious.
Excellent neighborhood gem that should be on everyone’s hit list. Have both brunched and dined here multiple times and have always left satisfied. Cocktails are also made well too.
So good. Tiny. Delicious.
Corey knows how to run a great place and this qualifies. JC needed a place like this. The food is great the servers professional and the overall vibe is great. Go.
Evening was perfect. Tuesday they have BYOB and we brought a special wine to celebrate our Anniversary. Service unobtrusive yet efficient.
Easy to find good choices on the menu. Host most gracious and lovely live music too!
I’ve been to Kitchen Step quite a few times and always enjoy the meals and drinks.
The food was out of this world, the cinnamon croissant french toast and the burger we're so delicious. Our waitress was kind and attentive even though she was busy with a lot of tables.
Huge disappointment. Everything was flavorless, “medium rare” burger was well done and grey. Service was way too rushed.
Go here at least once a month, if not more. Love it. Always love the menu. The food and drinks are always great. The dessert menu could be a little bit more creative. Tammy is the best waitress in all of the world.
Food was mediocre which was a disappointment because we drove an hour to have brunch here.
The service was great, very attentive, and the food came out quickly and to perfection. Have visited before and will definitely keep coming back
Really great food, attentive service, fun decor. I've been for both brunch and dinner now, and they were equally excellent. Someone is doing something right in the kitchen!
This was my me and my husband's first time at Kitchen Step. We took our chance inviting out of town friends to a place we had never been too, but to our surprise it was wonderful. The food awas delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful and the staff was pleasant. I will definitely be returning.
Very accommodating with babies!
The food is impeccable. Chef Ryan DePersio is one of the best out there. You won’t be disappointed.
My boyfriend and I love this place. We started with the zucchini fries, it’s a pretty big portion for two. For entrees we got the hanger steak and buttermilk chicken, both amazing. The steak was flavorful and perfectly cooked, and topped with green beans. Chicken was so juicy and tender, best I’ve ever had. Definitely will be back for both the food and the laidback atmosphere.
As usual the food is great. I was a little disappointed that they had modified their pork chop, which previously everyone considered great - probably the best they had ever had. The new one was very good and suffered only by comparison. Would benefit from a more diverse salad and dessert selection. My companion was a first time diner with me and she loved the Kitchen Step.
For my family and close friends this is their favorite place as it is mine.
Service here is outstanding. Don’t think my glass of water was ever half empty... 😯
Decided to try this place after realizing the guys from Batello were behind it (miss that place). The food and ambiance were exceptional!
Creative menu but maybe a little too eccentric. The Moroccan chicken was mouthwatering and the Bronzino with grilled fennel was exceptionally savory. It’s a charming spot and the service and management were outstanding & friendly. We will definitely come back and try the brunch next time!
Thought the prices were high for the quality of food we received. Menu was fairly limited, but service was good. Took along time to get salt & pepper when requested....expected more this place. Would not go back...
My second time dining here, looking forward to the third, and many more!
We came for brunch, important to get a reservation for the weekends or the wait may be a bit longer. Was an awesomely diverse crowd, nice ambiance and good food. We'll come back in spring too when the patio out front is open again.
Great service and delicious food. Wonderful atmosphere.
They made a Birthday very special. The food was exceptional and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Service was excellent as well. Will definitely return.
The food had no flavor at all. 30 minutes after leaving we both became violently ill.
Short ribs were amazing!
