Generous servings of incredible, melt-in-your-mouth sashimi, creative & scrumptious roll, attentive staff that doesn't encourage you to leave. What more could one want? I was worried about the change of ownership, but no need to...it is still definitely the best sushi experience in the subjects!!!
Great sushi!!! A little overpriced for this area, but still very, very good!
One of our favorite spots. Kitaro Monster is the best roll ever
The food was amazing and the presentation was spectacular. We ordered way too much food and ended up putting the entrees right into to-go boxes. The Philadelphia roll tasted really amazing- I don't know what they did differently, but it was fantastic. Unfortunately, we did not feel the service was attentive. To be fair, it was 7pm on a Saturday.
Food was good service was great space was ok.
Magic tuna was delicious. The grilled calamari is unique and a culinary delight! We also loved the tuna tartar. Overall an amazing meal.
We had 6 items off the menu. Three had the same sauce, which was not bad, but it got pretty boring and dominated the taste of the meal. We tried two white wines, both were bad.
Amazing food, it’s truly the best sushi around, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly highly recommend!
If you have not been to Kitaro this is your weekend to try as they will be celebrating their 8th anniversary. Even if you do not care for sushi, there is a "cooked food" menu.
Food was AMAZING. Service could have been better, a little slow and almost no communication.
Wonderful service, sushi was delicious and the presentation was amazing
If you are a bacon lover you need to try their MiMi's BLT.
Went on recommendation of a friend and was glad we did. Have a large variety of different types of sushi and different ways to serve them -than the usual ways. Like using rice paper instead of lots of rice. We had a grilled calamari-and it was one of the best we ever had. Can get full dinners like chicken and steak with the soup and salad, as well as appetizers and rolls. We will definitely be back.
I've been dining at Kitaro for years and have never been disappointed. The sushi is always fresh and flavorful and the seafood entrees are excellent especially the Chilean Sea Bass. The hostess, who I believe is the wife of the owner, is always pleasant and gracious. What's not to love?
Average run of the mill sushi place, nothing special.
I should start out by saying we will never dine there again. The three of us went out for dinner. Two of us eat sushi, and one doesn't. The sushi was fine, nothing incredibly special but still good. The third meal was terrible. Chicken and steak with clear soup as a starter was the order. The chicken was super dry, and the steak was just atrocious! When we mentioned it to the waitress, she said she would speak to the manager. The waitress came back and informed us we would see a 10% discount on the bill. Well, it was 10% off the meal. The bill was a bit north of $140, and stayed there. $2.50 off the bill. Laughable, really.
As for the service, the server couldn't really get a handle on things. We waited for over a half hour for the chicken and steak to come out, and it took three reminders to get water, among other issues.
Overall, I'm not sure how Kitaro stays in business. If there was any other sushi place in ten miles, I'm sure Kitaro wouldn't be able to keep the lights on.
Never had a bad meal here. This is our go to place for sushi and love it every time we are there.
Looked like it could be a romantic date-night spot. It wasn't. Felt more like a sports bar than Japanese restaurant. Food was good enough but it wasnt a good choice for our special occasion. Server was smiley but not attentive or knowledgeable.
The food, atmosphere and service were top notch, excellent excellent excellent night
Kitaro is our "go to" place for consistently great food that never disappoints! If you are not into sushi (you should be) the grill items on the menu are awesome. This is our "fast food" carry out choice but dining in is a real treat!
Best sushi around
Food was excellent. Our waitress was very good, but it took longer than usual for our food. Although our waitress did keep us informed and did apologize for the wait.
No matter how many times I've been to Kitaro, I've NEVER had a bad experience. From the friendly staff to the delicious food, Kitaro is absolutely fantastic!
We dined at Kitaro on a Wednesday. We were delighted to learn Wednesday's are bogo 1/2 price on maki rolls. Our rolls were fantastic, flavorful, and tasted fresh. This is my new favorite place!!! We will be back soon!
Kitaro is my families go to restaurant! We love the owners, Carrie & John and the entire staff who all treat us so very well! This neighborhood gem has been providing us with creative, high quality fabulous food and I hope they continue for many, many more years!
The food was very good. The grilled calamari was excellent with a life like presentation. The service was a little slow to handle the full house.
I have been coming to Kitaro since they opened 7 years ago. I have had sushi at many restaurants in Chicago and the surrounding area but Kitaro is by far my favorite. The owner John and his wife Carrie are great too!
We enjoyed our first trip to Kitaro. The ambiance was appropriate for a date and our server was nice and knowledgeable. Drinks were refreshing and the sushi was excellent. They have a great variety on the menu. The only disappointment was no acknowledgement of the birthday we told them we were coming in to celebrate.
The service, food and presentation was great! Our server was Theresa and she recommended some of the house maki to try along with dessert afterwords, and all were great suggestions. Definitely a wonderful night out!
Food was perfect as always. The problem I had was the service. We felt rushed. Even after I asked to slow it down food came way too fast. Maybe because it was VDay but it bothered me. We had the VDay menu and it was not relaxing with such rushed service.
We always order sushi when we come here because it is so good. This time we came with friends who aren't really sushi fans so we decided to split 3 great appetizers, grilled calamari, crab rangoon and beef wrapped asparagus.....all yummy. Then we ordered 2 grill entres, lamb chops and short ribs.....super yummy and they came with awesome soup, salad, vegetables and fried rice! We also had to have an order of Magic Tuna the best maki on the menu and my personal favorite! Thanks to the owners, Carrie and John for the complimentary slice of mango cheesecake for my birthday!! Still my favorite restaurant!
With allergies to sesame and nuts, I only frequent sushi restaurants with superb customer service along with fabulous and interesting food options. There is no where I'd rather go than to Kitaro Grill. Their fish is always fresh, their servers are conscientious, fun, and generally knowledgeable. Carrie runs the front house and she is always charming and attentive to all her guests. They are great about making bar drinks to customer specifications, and they have pay enough attention that I don't get stray sesame seeds in my food. The decor isn't the typical sterile black and white of so many sushi places these days - green walls and red booths with bamboo and great lighting. Ask me where I want to be taken for special occasions or just because it's Thursday...the answer is always Kitaro Grill.
The salad is awesome, the salmon belly was very tasty, Magic Tuna can not be beat, sea bass rocks, as does the fried rice! Thanks again for NEVER disappointing us!
We've been to Kitaro a number of times and every time the food is delicious and the staff are super friendly. Needless to say, we'll keep coming back as Kitaro is a family favorite for us!
The extensive menu choices, the great Monday deals, the SUPERB service and most of all the great food makes dining here outstanding!
The husband/wife owner team maintains a quality setting with remarkable food.
Excellent food. Beautiful modern decor.
Only negative is the kitschy Asian lounge knock off music, weird that it was playing in the background like something out of a cheap tacky Chinese food place in the 60's or 70's. They need to change the music, please.
We took friends from Downers Grove to Kitaro a couple months ago and they wanted to get together again. I suggested other restaurants but they insisted on Kitaro as they enjoyed it so much! The Pear Martinis were a hit as were the new appetizers: grilled calamari, tuna tartar and yellowtail carpacio! It was fun to order 4 maki rolls and share. As always great food!! Thanks John & Carrie!
My wife and I wanted to go out for sushi and we really haven't had it many times before. I figured I would just find a place on OpenTable that had availability. Kitaro was a big hit! As were are kind of "rookies" with sushi, we asked our very friendly waitress many questions about the menu and about some of the specific items we ordered. We had some seasoned edamame as an appetizer and four sushi rolls, all of which were excellent. My wife and I both loved the "Godzilla" sushi the best. It was outstanding! I was very happy with this restaurant and will visit again when we want sushi next time.
It's hard to find a good sushi place in the burbs. We found Kitaro randomly and decidedly give it a try. It has since become our valentines tradition and our go to when we want to get some good sushi. Out of all the places in the surrounding burbs, this is the spot!!
