Kitaro Grill and Sushi Lounge Ratings and Reviews
Went on recommendation of a friend and was glad we did. Have a large variety of different types of sushi and different ways to serve them -than the usual ways. Like using rice paper instead of lots of rice. We had a grilled calamari-and it was one of the best we ever had. Can get full dinners like chicken and steak with the soup and salad, as well as appetizers and rolls. We will definitely be back.
I've been dining at Kitaro for years and have never been disappointed. The sushi is always fresh and flavorful and the seafood entrees are excellent especially the Chilean Sea Bass. The hostess, who I believe is the wife of the owner, is always pleasant and gracious. What's not to love?
I should start out by saying we will never dine there again. The three of us went out for dinner. Two of us eat sushi, and one doesn't. The sushi was fine, nothing incredibly special but still good. The third meal was terrible. Chicken and steak with clear soup as a starter was the order. The chicken was super dry, and the steak was just atrocious! When we mentioned it to the waitress, she said she would speak to the manager. The waitress came back and informed us we would see a 10% discount on the bill. Well, it was 10% off the meal. The bill was a bit north of $140, and stayed there. $2.50 off the bill. Laughable, really.
As for the service, the server couldn't really get a handle on things. We waited for over a half hour for the chicken and steak to come out, and it took three reminders to get water, among other issues.
Overall, I'm not sure how Kitaro stays in business. If there was any other sushi place in ten miles, I'm sure Kitaro wouldn't be able to keep the lights on.
Kitaro is my families go to restaurant! We love the owners, Carrie & John and the entire staff who all treat us so very well! This neighborhood gem has been providing us with creative, high quality fabulous food and I hope they continue for many, many more years!
We enjoyed our first trip to Kitaro. The ambiance was appropriate for a date and our server was nice and knowledgeable. Drinks were refreshing and the sushi was excellent. They have a great variety on the menu. The only disappointment was no acknowledgement of the birthday we told them we were coming in to celebrate.
We always order sushi when we come here because it is so good. This time we came with friends who aren't really sushi fans so we decided to split 3 great appetizers, grilled calamari, crab rangoon and beef wrapped asparagus.....all yummy. Then we ordered 2 grill entres, lamb chops and short ribs.....super yummy and they came with awesome soup, salad, vegetables and fried rice! We also had to have an order of Magic Tuna the best maki on the menu and my personal favorite! Thanks to the owners, Carrie and John for the complimentary slice of mango cheesecake for my birthday!! Still my favorite restaurant!
With allergies to sesame and nuts, I only frequent sushi restaurants with superb customer service along with fabulous and interesting food options. There is no where I'd rather go than to Kitaro Grill. Their fish is always fresh, their servers are conscientious, fun, and generally knowledgeable. Carrie runs the front house and she is always charming and attentive to all her guests. They are great about making bar drinks to customer specifications, and they have pay enough attention that I don't get stray sesame seeds in my food. The decor isn't the typical sterile black and white of so many sushi places these days - green walls and red booths with bamboo and great lighting. Ask me where I want to be taken for special occasions or just because it's Thursday...the answer is always Kitaro Grill.
We took friends from Downers Grove to Kitaro a couple months ago and they wanted to get together again. I suggested other restaurants but they insisted on Kitaro as they enjoyed it so much! The Pear Martinis were a hit as were the new appetizers: grilled calamari, tuna tartar and yellowtail carpacio! It was fun to order 4 maki rolls and share. As always great food!! Thanks John & Carrie!
My wife and I wanted to go out for sushi and we really haven't had it many times before. I figured I would just find a place on OpenTable that had availability. Kitaro was a big hit! As were are kind of "rookies" with sushi, we asked our very friendly waitress many questions about the menu and about some of the specific items we ordered. We had some seasoned edamame as an appetizer and four sushi rolls, all of which were excellent. My wife and I both loved the "Godzilla" sushi the best. It was outstanding! I was very happy with this restaurant and will visit again when we want sushi next time.
It's hard to find a good sushi place in the burbs. We found Kitaro randomly and decidedly give it a try. It has since become our valentines tradition and our go to when we want to get some good sushi. Out of all the places in the surrounding burbs, this is the spot!!
We had a reservation for New Year's Eve and were seated timely, but weren't greeted by our waitress for probably 10-15 minutes after being seated. The restaurant was busy, but not unusually so. Once making contact with our waitress, she provided very good service. My husband and I selected options from the fixed menu (rather than options from the limited New Year's Eve menu). Both his main entree (scallops) and mine (salmon) were disappointing. Quantity did not determine that either qualified as a main entree, since the individual sushi appetizers each of us had prior to the entree actually took up more real estate on our plates than did the main entrees. Nor was either entree particularly tasty. My salmon was greasy and my husband's scallops lacked much flavor. We've had much better dinners at this restaurant than we did on New Year's Eve. Consequently, I don't think we'll return again for New Year's Eve.
