Kinzie Chophouse Ratings and Reviews
Three-course prix fixe menu is an excellent value -- especially if two of you order different items in each course and share everything (including the coordinated wine pairings!). Everything was prepared and seasoned nicely, except the avocado appetizer and butternut squash pasta dish had *no* salt whatsoever.
From the time we entered we were greeted with big smiles and a sense of genuine warmth. Chase, our waiter, was fantastic! He immediately made us feel at home! Knowledgeable and enthusiastic, he made me feel like my selections would have been his choice for me as well!
The wine list was extensive and his patience limitless as we tried to make a choice. The steak (filet for me) and the special preparation (whiskey peppercorn) was outstanding. The sides (broccoli fondue and mushroom risotto) were both very good, but too large to finish. If we were local I would have packed it up to go for sure! The desert our waiter chose (for the birthday we were celebrating) was exactly what we would have picked and it came out without consultation and the presentation included a personalized plate and lit candle. It was the perfect night!
Quality of food keeps going down. My steak (their specialty) was not very good. We visit Chicago every year and have visited them the last 3 years. Last year was disappointing and this year was as well. Thought maybe last year was just a one off bad meal but we were disappointed in the quality of main course again.
Wait staff was great, and ambiance was nice, but food was disappointing. They did not offer a 6oz filet, and there is no way I can eat an 8oz, so I ordered the salmon. It was cooked way overdone and the fish was actually chewy! I heard others say the steak was good, but not outrageous.
My wife and I both ordered from the three course Fall Menu with wine pairings. The food was excellent and steaks cooked to perfection. Our service was great, water glass was always full, plates cleared timely after each course, and our server checked back several times to make sure our food was to always our liking. Atmosphere is a little cozy. I would go back again anytime.
We went to Kinzie Chophouse to celebrate a friend's birthday. The service was outstanding with careful attention to every detail. Our food was delicious, hot and nicely plated. The wine selection accommodated a wide selection of tastes and was reasonably priced. We will definitely be back!
Service was outstanding! Our server, Jim, was very attentive to our table. When my steak came out overcooked, he replaced it fairly quickly with no questions asked. The Cocoa and Coffee rubbed Delmonico.... Yum yum! The menu had a nice variety of meal selections that included an affordable price range. We will return!
I have been to this restaurant several times for various occasions, including my birthday, wedding anniversary and Valentine's Day. When I received an email to come there for Sweetest Day it was a no brainer. The food and service has always been excellent. This experience, however, was disappointing. The room we were seated in was very loud. We could hardly hear each other. It took about 15 minutes after we were seated for our waiter to come over. He took our drink order but never introduced himself. I had to ask his name. After putting in our drink order, he came back and we ordered our food and appetizer. It took another 30 minutes to get the crab cake appetizer. It took an additional 35 to 40 minutes minutes to get our entrees. We watched people eat their meals, order their dessert and finish it before we caught hold of our waiter and asked him what was going on. He never told us the kitchen was backed up until I asked him for a Dessert wine and if it would take as long as the food. He then stated the kitchen was backed up, not the bar. However, my husband ordered a second drink before our food came and had to inquire about it. We ended up taking a few bites of our entrees and then asking to wrap it to take it home. At that point we were irritated with the service. My dessert wine came out quickly, I drank it fast, we paid the bill and left. I was surprised that even when we inquired about our food and the length of time, there was no manager that came over to apologize for the wait like other high end restaurants. The food was delicious, however, when we finally received it. I'm sure it was an off night, but I was invited to the restaurant and the level of service did not measure up.
Because of my first awesome experience I went back for a second time. Unfortunately they fell short. I attempted to order two bottles of wine and in both cases the menu had the incorrect year. The service was spotty as our server was also tending bar They did not have the steak we requested so they served a substitute. For all of the reasons I give it a 3.
My husband and I spent "Sweetest Day" at Kinzie Chop House and once again it did not disappoint. Their fall menu offerings were superb - especially the scallops appetizer. They now also have the most delicious warm rolls which we had to show great restraint in not asking for more! My favorite will always be the ahi tuna and of course all of their steaks are fantastic. Rob is our absolute favorite server and he is most attentive without being intrusive. This is truly our favorite steak house in the city!
Unfortunately, I was not particularly pleased with the food nor the service. My friends and I sat at the front booth along side of the cashier and once we received our food the waiters were coming to our table every three minutes. It was very annoying. I understand they have to remove empty plates but it seemed to be no break in between. I noticed other groups at tables but I didn’t see the waiters visiting them near as much.
I ordered a filet mignon (butterfly) and it was very tender inside but dry on the outside. My baked potatoe was lumpy versus smooth. It could have cooked longer.
Even though my first experience was not the best I would like to patronize Kinzie Chophouse in the future.
We had seen this written up with other "Chophouse" restaurants and found this to be much less flashy and more about the food. Service was excellent - extremely professional, patient and warm - steaks were outstanding, wine list was great, and the atmosphere was relatively quiet (it was a Sunday night). Just a really, really good evening and a great restaurant. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a great steak-focused meal, with excellent service and a quiet atmosphere. Loved it.
We have been to Kinzie Chophouse once a year for the last several years. It had become the 'GO TO' place for my husband and I when we visit Chicago. Our experiences have always been excellent, until this year. My steak was not cooked properly and an employee from the front desk walking around noticed I was not eating. He told me that it was cooked to medium-rare, that I didn't know my cooking temperatures, but would send it back to be refired. (I have worked in the restaurant industry for over 30 years and am well aware of cooking temperatures) He was VERY rude and condescending. We will NOT be back.
