Kinship: a feeling of being close or connected to other people.

Kinship is a modern American restaurant by acclaimed Chef Eric Ziebold, formerly the Chef of CityZen, and his wife and business partner Celia Laurent. Designed by Darryl Carter, the restaurant is located in an historic building dating back to 1907.

Kinship's à la carte menu celebrates the rich diversity of influences that have come to shape American cuisine and inspire Ziebold.

The restaurant dining room offers 59 seats, a private dining room for 16 guests, a 15 seat bar with lounge area and fireplace.

Excellent service, extremely attentive. Good was excellent, however I thought that the entrees were pretty salty overall. Great value for the quality of service, food, and drinks.

I had high hopes for this restaurant. We enjoyed our first courses (tuna tataki and potato soup), but the next four dishes (sunchokes, foie gras, lamb, and veal sweetbreads) left much to be desired. The food was ok - a bit overpriced considering the lack of "wow." I guess the only consolation as that the portions were fairly generous.

The service was great and the restaurant has a very nice ambiance. Maybe we just visited on an off night for the daily menu offerings.

This restaurant lives up to its name: Kinship. From the first greeting to your exit, it is a delight. The food is the star and everything else complements beautifully. It is our special event go to place. Thank you for always delivering an experience that is simply outstanding.

Everything was great. Food was prepared as well as I ever had—service was great—bar drinks set a new level. We will be back

Excellent service. Kudos to the Chef. We remember the days when he was at Cityzen. The dishes are so flavorful. The timing going from appetizers to main dishes was perfect as it was when he was at Cityzen.

My daughter and I chose Kinship to celebrate her birthday. Everything was perfect! Diverse menu choices prepared to perfection, attentive but not intrusive service, excellent cocktails and wine choices, and a nice variety of desserts that weren't too heavy. We had a great time!

I was really looking forward to Kinship for my birthday. I have to say that, overall, it was a decent experience. The service was outstanding, but the food left something to be desired. Tuna tartare was only ok. Lobster French toast was excellent. Baby lamb leg was well cooked but I wasn’t wowed by it.

The best thing about the place is the Parker house rolls. Truly excellent.

I guess I was just expecting more based on a Michelin star and the price. Wouldn’t return.

Our server was inattentive and snooty. Ruined the meal. Food was definitely not worth price paid.

Everything was exceptional. From the welcoming hosts, our server, Alexandria to our outstanding meal. Our only disappointment is that it took us this long to get here. The standouts were the Maine Lobster French Toast, Scallops Mulligatawny, Halibut accompanied by a 2014 White Bordeaux from WA. Our desserts stood up to savory courses — we had the chocolate mousse with cardamom ice cream and the pineapple confit with oolong ice cream. We think this place may even be better than some of our favs, the Inn at Little Washington and Nobu.

Kinship did not disappoint! Perfect place for our anniversary, very nice but all chill enough to just relax and enjoy. The cozy lounge with fireplace was a very nice touch and honestly made the wait for the table very enjoyable. The dishes were were thoughtful with fresh ingredients and the ones we loved including the grilled asparagus and the scallops with lentil curry were excellent. There were a couple dishes where the flavors just didn't connect for us however the quality was there. The dessert was outstanding, the toffee peanut brittle along with the carmelized banana split. The service was also top notch. We will certainly be going back to try some of the other dishes!

After many meals at CitiZen, we were looking forward to this meal. So we were surprised at the food - good, but not great. Except for the desserts, the food was very good but uninspired.

We were just in DC for a week long conference and tried a bunch of different restaurants. Kinship was my personal favorite. The quality of the food and service really stood out. I can't have gluten or dairy and the chef was extremely accommodating. The BEST gluten free bread I've had in my life! We tried 3 different appetizers (duck foie gras, Asian pear salad, and the tuna tataki). They were ALL out of this world! Then for dinner we got shared the lamb and the halibut. Oh. My. God. All of it was incredible! I cannot recommend Kinship enough! Go check it out!

The food is remarkably creative and prepared, beautifully plated and delicious. The chef Eric Ziebold deserves his Michelin stars. The service is perfect and friendly. The restaurant is beautifully designed. The excellent wine list perfectly compliments the food. We have enjoyed many meals at Kinship and at Metier the prix fixe other restaurant at the same address and hope to enjoy many more. We shared a lovely dinner with special old friends to celebrate two birthdays. Perfect evening. Thank you Kinship!

Heard quite a bit of buzz about Kinship and Metier and have enjoyed Mr. Ziebold's cuisine for years. On this night though (a recent Thursday), our table of 4 experienced over salting of all our dishes on a scale I've never experienced in fine dining. We sent the potato chowder back but when a new bowl was served it was just as salty as the first. None of us had the nerve to send everything back since our first attempt was unsuccessful. This was disappointing given we all agreed that, but for the over salting, our dishes could have been superb.

Service was impressive from top to bottom as were our cocktails.

This was our second time at Kinship and we plan on being regulars. We ate from the winter menu last time and the new spring offerings on this visit.
Zach is amazing and we totally love the cozy and modern yet quaint ambiance. But above all - THE FOOD IS SUPERB!!!

We thought that the appetizers and main courses left a lot to be desired in terms of flavor when it came down to the price point. The bourbon vanilla parfait for dessert was amazing but that was the only stand out dish of six that the two of us shared. Service was great but I think you can get a much better meal for the price at many other places in DC!

The roast chicken is so good that it gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling of "coming home" out of the cold and into pure warmth and comfort. The lobster french toast is spectacular and truly original, and the tuna tataki is great. The pineapple confit dessert is so sweet and satisfying.
Make sure to get an after-dinner coffee, as it comes with a toffee piece that you get to break with a tiny hammer. I enjoyed their two non-alcoholic mocktails. Service was great.

I don’t generally 5star, but Kinship deserved it in all ways. Our waiter convinced us to try something that we were leery of (“melted headcheese” as an ingredient) and we’re glad he did. Our deserts made us quite happy, and our dietary restrictions were worked around. Wines by the glass were wonderful. The one weird thing was that as I was leaving, I saw where my car was parked and just asked for the keys, rather than have the valet drive the car all the way around the block. I found that my seat was completely pushed back and 100% reclined. I’m not thrilled with the idea of someone taking a nap there... much less other scenarios I imagined!

Not a restaurant for a special occasion. We should have realized given its location next to the Convention Center it would attract convention goers. Space is loud with large parties making conversation difficult. If you're from out of town and in a festive mood, this will work for you. Food is good, but not Michelin one-star.

My colleague and I dined here recently. The service is very attentive - there were water re-fillers, bread distributers, the main server, and others who attended to us throughout the meal. This is typically welcome, though not if you are trying to engage in an extended business conversation. We dined on the tuna tataki, asian pear salad, lobster french toast, whole chicken, and granny smith apples for dessert. The best part of the meal was the tuna tataki and lobster french toast - and the Willamette Valley, Oregon Pinot Noir. For its attentive service and impeccable ingredients, I will recommend Kinship.
