The food was delicious, and served hot! Staff was very friendly and the service was attentive. The only challenge was getting from the Telus parkade to the restaurant, because even short distances can be challenging for those with physical disabilities. The drop off area out front addressed this problem, except in our case where both of us have mobility issues! One solution MIGHT be is to have one permanent handi-capped stall out front in case drop off is not a viable option. Kudos for the efforts made to accommodate those with disabilities! Overall, the dining experience was great, the food was fantastic, and the ambiance is welcoming and comfortable.
A venerable favorite slips a notch. Friday night for dinner out -- hardly a sole. The kitchen staff and servers resembled crows lined up on a power line -- staring out at the handful of guests -- a little bit eerie. Burgers (and even the bacon topping) was very bland (and overdone). Server was cheery, helpful and pleasant. We'll have a good hard think before coming back to the Kingston. Too bad...
I've been to the Kingston many times and was underwhelmed by the service which made the meal just average for me. We certainly didn't need to reserve as the restaurant was quite empty. When shown to our table we were in a two seater that had pub chairs. I was with a friend who has back issues and felt more comfortable in a booth. When asking for a booth ( there were many around us ..again, not busy ) the hostess took us to the back of the restaurant right beside the server / kitchen / bathroom area...felt like a bit of a punishment for asking for a booth however I thanked her and she just walked away abruptly like we were an inconvenience. Having a bad day??? Secondly, we waited over 10 minutes for a server to approach us - remember, we were right beside the server area and kitchen. They seemed to not have time for us until my friend finally called over to see if we could be served. Once our server arrived he provided the service I was accustomed to at the Kingston..friendly! All in all, the food was good..it's a great area close to shopping and the Orpheum / Commodore so I would still recommend...just sad to see people having a bad day...if your unhappy in your job, find another...the Kingston will thank you!!
Server completely ignored us for first 20 minutes, like we weren't there and let all the glasses get empty. When I called to increase my reservation a week in advance from 6-10, the person on the phone gave the impression I was asking something unreasonable, should have been a simple yes or no and positive but was not.
It's been a while since we've been here. We almost turned around and left after such a cold greeting. I think the hostess either needs a vacation or a new job. People need to be greeted much more professionally and definitely with more enthusiasm. No hello, no smile, and barely a grunt all the way to the table. Sorry but that was bad.
Our server saved the experience and any chance we'd come back. We'd give her 5 stars! She was prompt, efficient, and explained when the bar got backed up. The food was pretty good as usual. I had the dry ribs to start and the angus burger for my meal. No complaints.
Not sure if we'll return but if we do I hope we'll be greeted professionally.
We booked this restaurant prior to a Canuck's game on Sat. Feb 4th. We started with beers but only a few were on the menu so we had to walk into the front of the restaurant to see what was available on the board. Kind of unusual, but we were able to talk to the bartender and requested a beer similar to another beer's taste profile and he was bang on with his recommendation. Calamari was good but not a large portion. The mains were one of the flatbreads, steak sandwiches and a pasta dish. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the gorgonzola butter on the bread was awesome. Fries also very good. The flatbread was a hit as well. Pasta dish was good but not as good as the other two selections. Food was delivered hot and fairly quickly which was great as we were trying to get to the game early. If there was a bit of a downside on this particular night, we had to ask for our second round of beers vs. being asked. Have eaten here many times before and continue to go back. A fairly solid choice when you are going to an event in the area.
I made a reservation for 8 called to extend the number to 10 and they told me because it was a game day they probably wouldnt honour it, so that put doubt in my group and only 5 of us came and the place was empty,kind of a shame they could have had 5 more customers
Great food, superior beers on tap and bottled. Food was delicious and prompt. Those hot wings were just right, as well as the calamari and nachos. Those were all I got to taste as my colleagues finished the rest before I could get to them. We met after work; parking was easy to find on the street. Our server was fantastic -- I wish I'd made a note of his name: he was courteous, friendly, fun, with just the right casual-formal balance. I would definitely recommend!
Solid food all around - seafood (linguine), steak, salads, and dessert (multi-fruit crumble) were all very tasty.
Drinks were a smidge bland/tasted watered down but still complemented the meals so not a major issue but probably the area with most room to improve.
Would recommend and would go again.
Our server was not very helpful and defensive. We ordered two glasses of the same wine and when our third guest arrived she wanted the same wine. We asked our server if we could get the bottle instead. She refused and said she already rang it through. She did not even make an attempt to accommodate us. The food was good but unfortunately the bad service is a reason I will not be returning anytime soon or even recommending.
We went here pre Canucks game. Staying at hotel across the street. Casual but nice sports bar/restaurant with an open kitchen. Pork chop was great, soups were great and shrimp dish was great. Server was very helpful with my gluten free questions. Limited GF menu but food was great. Booths were cozy and you could hear each other when it got crowded.
The Kingston Taphouse has always been our 'go to' pre-game meal spot. For years the food was outstanding and the portions were plentiful. We have notice over the past couple of years that the portion size has shrunk and the overall quality of the food has diminished, become more processed tasting and has lost its uniqueness. The fantastic value for dollar spent is definately gone. The food isn't horrible, it tastes good but not spectacular like it use to. In comparison I might as well go to white spot for thier preface $10 special, not much difference in taste... Our days of choosing the Kingston over everywhere else is gone after Saturday's meal. It's time to find a pub or restaurant that is above average, as the kingstone use to be. We also noted that the kingstone was not nearly as busy as it use to be, perhaps others are feeling the same way. It's the end of a food experience era for us...
I usually do not like to give bad reviews but this was probably one of the worst experiences that I could remember. Our waiter was terribly rude, when I asked for my bacon well done he told me he had no control over what came out of the kitchen. When my order was wrong he argued with me saying it was my fault and that is what I ordered, he never did ask if he could fix my order. We could see that it was busy but he gave us this huge rant about all the tables he had, at one point it took us 25min to waive him down for a drink and another 20min to pay our bill. When my friend kindly confronted him about his attitude he said what should I become a stripper like my mom. I did not understand the comment but it was extremely inappropriate. To be honest I think we were all in a bit of shock with the poor service, In all honesty I have got better service at Tim Horton’s.
I was disappointed that they didn't have a few drinks on the menu as advertised. They also didn't seem to know how to make some of the drinks we ordered. I ended up just ordering a beer. The food was good for the price. Otherwise, great place to stop in for a bite to eat but that's really about it. Nothing special.
Reservation was made under my name for 2 people at 6:15. I arrived at 6:15 and was told that I was the first one in our party to arrive. I was seated at a table and waited until 6:35 when my husband showed up. He had also arrived around 6:15 and was told that HE was the first of the party to arrive. He was seated at a table on another floor of the restaurant. We were sitting for 20 minutes at two different tables before my husband did a "walk-around" the restaurant to see if I was there.
I had googled the restaurant menu prior to arriving at the restaurant. When I tried to order an appetizer I was told that the menu on the website was very outdated!! I then ordered an appetizer from the appetizer menu on the table I was seated at and was told that that too was an old menu.
So far - 3 strikes
My husband goes to the Kingston on CFL (BC Lions) game nights and said that the service, etc was normally much better, however I was not impressed.
We chose Kingston Taphouse for brunch because they had pancakes on the menu. However, when we arrived we found they had changed the menu...no more pancakes. I was so disappointed. In the end, they showed me how important customer service is...and that goes a really long way in my books.
