I’m glad we made reservations, because this place gets busy on Friday nights. The wait staff was really pleasant, our dishes arrived quickly, and my jerk chicken salad was amazing!
This was the worst restaurant experience I've had. The restaurant had agreed to have a party of 30 on a Saturday night at 8:30 and was unprepared. We had reservations at 7:30 but weren't seated until 8:20. When I approached the hostess at 8pm she said, "It's just that time of night." But that's why I made reservations, to avoid the wait. But the staff was saving tables for the party of 30 and had not planned how to seat the other reservations.
Once we were seated more things fell apart. They ran out of so many of the dishes we ordered; they brought us an empty hot sauce bottle; they ran out of cutlery and we had to eat most of our food with plastic forks and knives. While waiting for our last two dishes they brought us two we had already eaten. The dishes, I'm sure, were not their best. The jerk chicken came with two wings and a drumstick, no breast nor thigh. The black pepper tofu, highly rated in the reviews, was boring, I imagine since they had to stop and make the sauce they had run out of during the night.
The staff tried so hard to keep it together. You could see them working together. Our waitress, Tiffany, although becoming more and more harried never gave any attitude. A big disappointment, however, was when the manager came over to ask us about the dishes being returned. We expected he was coming over to apologize, maybe even comp us our drinks or something. But instead it was only to clarify which dishes had arrived and why we had returned what we had ordered.
Unfortunately, I can't recommend this restaurant. I have no reason to return as the food was unimpressive. It's all probably luck of the night and the timing of our seating. But it's not worth it for me to try again.
Friendly, festive and authentic. We were so happy to find this place before a show at the Fox on a Saturday evening and the food was outstanding! Unique menu choices, robust flavors, generous servings, and totally delicious! Good value. Nice background music but not so loud that it interfered with dinner conversation. Very helpful wait staff. All around, a great find.
Very great experience. We enjoyed the music.
Huge portions. Both the jerk chicken and oxtail stew were great. Going back soon. Sangria was perfect with our meal
We had Sunday brunch for my husband’s birthday. It was the 2nd time I’d been there. The food again was excellent. We had salmon for our entree, sweet potato wedges and salt fish fritters for a small plate. My mom and I loved the fritters, my husband did not. He is from the Caribbean. He loved everything else. We had a pitcher of mimosas which we enjoyed. The service was very good, friendly, helpful with questions and very pleasant. My only complaint was the restaurant was very cold. It was raining and cold outside and we felt no heat. Overall, besides the temperature we loved the restaurant and look forward to coming in the spring and summer when it is warmer.
Kingston 11 has a feel of a neighborhood restaurant in dowtown Oakland. The restaurant is casual with good service and great food including a number of Jamaican specialties like Jerk Chicken and Goat curry.
A fun place to eat.
Great food. Seasoned well and authentic. Will definitely be back.
The restaurant was cold. The chairs were cold, hard metal. Jerk chicken was dry and the seasoning used on it tasted like it came out of a bottle. Portions were not generous. Hard, inedible plantains made it to our plates. The ginger beer they made in-house lacked flavor. The salad was the best thing we ate. I have had better Jamaican food with larger portions for half the price!
The staff at the restaurant was very attemptive and helpful. The food was fresh, well presented and scrumptious. I really liked the chicken salad, the favors blended in so well complementing the chicken deliciously. I will definitely return.
The black pepper tofu is killer. The cocktails are top notch. And the friendly staff, interesting music and laid back ambiance work for me.
Loved the food. Servers really cared and were attentive. The oxtail is a must have
My friend got a Pina Colata. It must have been spoiled (cream in it?). He had to send it back. My drink was ok. Food was good. I had been here before about 18 mos. ago. It seemed a lot better back then. Food was still good. Authentic Jamaican food!
Great food as usual. Drinks balanced and flavorful. Live music was fun touch
I love that they don't have a microwave, which ensures fresh food always. The staff (including the chef/owner) are very friendly and attentive. I had a great experience and will visit again.
A great spot for comfort food and craft rum cocktails. The service was fun and on point. If you can handle the spice check this spot out.
One of my favorite restaurants. I’m so in love with this place. 😍😍
I came here for a quick bite to eat before the Maxwell Show. This is such a great place very energetic and the food is really good especially if you like Jamaican or Caribbean food. I always have to have the Jamaican Patties and the Wild Shrimp ( my go to dishes) it's a little spicy but not too much so if you don't like spicy ask the waiter how spicy a dish is or just skip it. You have to try the Rum Punch delicious it's my favorite drink there. I will be back!
Excellent Food! all your favorite Jamaican dishes done perfectly! Crazy Friday night. Service was good until it came time to get the check....that took a long time. VERY!!! Loud. Impossible to have a conversation with friends at dinner. The restaurant could do some basic things to help that.....
Excellent Jamaican food with good live music. Convenient to Paramount Theatre. NIce staff. Good vibe.
So glad the kitchen is back on top! The oxtails and service is divined!
Meal of oxtails with rice and plantins and a lime aid ended up being 30 bucks because apparently you only get the meat and the plantins. rice separate which is ridiculous and a veggie would be an eight books more.
What happen to a meat, starch and veggie as a meal??!ih yes, that’s on in the south.
Ripoff and not enuff value
Authentic delicious Caribbean menu. Lively music in a friendly even loving environment. Very thoughtful attentive service. We could not have asked for better location for our birthday celebration. Thank you Kingston 11. Great evening!
Great food. Very noisy. Turn and burn dining. Would go back. Goat curry AND oxtails on the sannys menu is rare. Kingston 11 did both very well. The jerk chock was a bit dry, though.
Love going to Kingston 11. Great food and great people. I highly recommend the oxtail.
Happy hour wasn’t that great. Not enough items or drinks on that menu. Other then that I enjoyed the service and food.
Food = great
Service = sloooowwww and lacks an appropriate level of customer service. I have visited a couple of times and both times arrived at 5p on a weekday. Service during this time is good because that is when they open for dinner. However, one should forget about ordering a second glass of wine or second food items off of the menu if you expect to receive it in a timely manner. If you place an order after 6pm, you will be waiting a looonnggg time for your order without any follow-up from your server or other wait staff for that matte (let alone a courtesy explanation or apology for the delay). It makes you wonder if they flew to a kitchen in Jamaica to prepare your request. Kingston 11 management MUST do better staffing during their busier times. It is Jamaican Cuisine but the location is in Oakland,CA which isn't on "island time, mon". Highly disappointed with the service!
Get the goat! So delicious! My one, and only, complaint is how loud it is. This is not the place to bring people with hearing losses. It is loud and tests even those of us who don't have hearing problems. I little insulation on the ceiling would help.
Good for a party
Fantastic gulf shrimp, oxtail stew, and rum raisin ice cream!!!
Loved it!! Had the oxtails - delicious!
Can’t wait to go back with friends and family.
The good was excellent and the chicken season perfectly. Service was excellent The only disappointing item the chocolate was sold out by 0700pm which we wanted to sample b
Food is always great here. The service, could be better. We literally asked for a drink like 5 times and never got it. We ended up leaving early to go elsewhere to get drinks because no one ever brought us our drinks.
Food was OK. Service was quite slow. Server was very nice. Had to ask 3 times for a beer. We were told a dish not available and it was delivered to the table next to ours. Ordered a dish off the starter section of the menu and after waiting a very long time for the dish, we asked the server who told us, after checking with the kitchen, that the dish was only available as part of a meal.
The Yelp reviews on the level of service turned out to be spot on! We went anyway a) because I like Jamaican food it was OK, but not what I wanted.
My date also ordered a mixed green salad that never arrived. "Oh, the kitchen informed me they only serve that with one of the mains", we were told. What we were never tld was why I had to order a Red Stripe from three different servers just to get one beer!
And I've no idea what was in the salt fish but we couldn't find much fish. The servers were friendly enough and they seem to do a good business but Jamaican time doesn't work well in Oaktown!
parking is terrible but the experience was different. good for a fun experience.
Do it family style. Come hungry. Spectacular food.
Delicious food, yum cocktails and friendly staff. We ordered dishes to share and it was great to try a variety of dishes. Plantains are our favorites so waitress was very kind to make sure there was enough for our large party!
I’ve been a customer at Kingston 11 since they opened. The quality of food varies and is inconsistent. On my recent visit we were seated well after our reservation time. Many menu items, including basics such as plantains were not available. Our server forgot a couple items from our order. We also did not feel welcomed. I spoke with the manager, Hennessey and he was just rude. Not going back, nor will I recommend to others. Dining out should be enjoyable not frustrating and a disappointment.
