I knew this wouldn't be the quietest Sunday lunch, as the League Cup final was being played out on tv at the same time, but it didn't stop us having a really good meal. If I was going to be particular, perhaps the TV volumes in the dining side of the pub could have been a little quieter, but hey ho.......didn't ruin anything. JB
Booked a table via Open Table which was confirmed yet when we arrived at the pub they had no table for us, highly unprofessional. Won't go again.
I would definitely recommend the Kings Stores. There is a good array of different dishes to choose from off the menu. The portions are very generous and service was prompt and friendly.
Waitress did not know how to make a common drink - first sign of trouble. During reservation process, was promised upstairs (more quiet) dining, which was denied on-site. Table was not cleaned well. Service was glacially slow. Reservations were for a relatively early time and place was not even half full upon seating, yet about 70% of the food was not available. A big disappointment on a special night. Would not recommend to anyone.
Lovely old pub, had an amazing steak and kidney pie!
But 12.5% surcharge put on the bill automatically, there was only two of us.
Great place for a meet up with friends, lovely and cosy.
Decent food and not too expensive
I like coming here. It’s cosy and the roast chicken is delicious
Friendly service, tasty food and good range of beers. A little loud due to low ceilings, bare brick walls and floorboards but great venue for a relaxed, informal occasion. I will definitely return!
always excellent, great Sunday lunch
Overall good pub food, however it was a little disappointing that 10/12 people had managed to finish their meals before the last two were served. For a reference, a meal + drink will cost around £25 per person, the restaurant part of the pub does add 12.5% service charge to the bill.
I am vegetarian and chose this restaurant over others for date night based on the online menu. Unfortunately when I arrived the menu was totally different and out of the 3 vegetarian options (2 starters and 1 main) I only liked the look of one (a starter which I was going to supplement with sides) which they no longer had. I ended up ordering the main (a risotto) which was totally tasteless. The staff were excellent and offered to replace it but I didn't fancy just a starter salad (the only other option left) as Saturday date night dinner! They took the main off the bill and offered us another drink or a dessert on the house so I can't fault their efforts but it's frustrating that the menu (the reason I chose the restaurant) was not the same. My partner enjoyed his chicken although the sweet potato fries were cold and had to be replaced. They were excellent when they arrived though!
Very busy. Very slow for food to arrive. Food tasted good - not amazing but not bad. Good selection of beers.
On balance I'd recommend for drinks and bar snacks, but not for a sit down meal, & especially not for a weekday lunch when you have limited time.
Casual venue but decent food, is part of a pub so can be a little loud
Amazing food. So didn't expect you it from a pub.
Forget his name but our server was TIP TOP. Guy with the trilby hat.... made us smile so much and thank you for him!!! Great recommendation on the beer as well.
Will defo be back.
Great Sunday lunch. Generous portions. Good value for money
Most excellent venue close to main line station ,fine selection of beers and wine seperate eating area but good vibe we came mid afternoon on a Friday so saw the after workers the early evening peeps ,waiting staff attentive but not intrusive ..will be back .
I have been here for Sunday Roast excellent !
Excellent place for a pub lunch. Good food, friendly staff and large drink selection.
No bad, Not amazing food was a bit dry. But the waiters were really friendly.
Lovely atmosphere and great food.
Great food and brilliant service. We were sitting in the ground floor bar area. The baby ribs were yum and my friend had the salt beef which she said was wonderful (I had a little food envy!)
It got noisy as the evening went on but I was warned of this when I booked. Would probably try upstairs next time - there will be a next time!!
Great Sunday lunch. I've been here a few times and regrettably on this occasion the service wasn't up to the normal standard. Still ok but a considerable wait for drinks and a fair bit of disorganisation that I wouldn't expect especially when it wasn't even that busy.
Still a fantastic roast
When we arrived we received a very warm welcome, and we were shown to our table. I must congratulate the King's Stores because the service was impeccable throughout. The lady who took care of us was thoroughly attentive and gave us beautiful service throughout the meal which was a lovely experience for us. The food was excellent, I had the chicken roast dinner which was perfectly cooked, lovely Yorkshire puddings and I really enjoyed it. I happily recommend this venue.
Its quite noisy in the Kings Stores, so you do end up shouting most of the way through dinner.
The food is pretty good
Had drinks in here before but not eaten - food was fantastic, the jerk chicken was exceptional. Highly recommend this place.
I went for a mid-week evening meal and drinks to catch up with an old school friend.
Good pub food and speedy service, handily close to Liverpool Street.
The acoustics mean it is quite loud so maybe not so good for an intimate date!
Very nice meal and great service. Was a little quiet but thus was a Wednesday lunch so understandable.
Three of the four in our party worked together, many moons ago, on the corner of Brushfield Street with Bishopsgate. Keith, our old boss, celebrated his 80th birthday in May; so we met up with him to celebrate this milestone birthday. We all had a lovely tasty main course with wine and a really good dessert. The service was efficient and pleasant in a lovely relaxed atmosphere, which, you don't always find in the City restaurants. Well done The Kings Stores!
I had booked based on the fact that we would be in the upstairs restaurant, away from the bar. Unfortunately, we got seated downstairs and it was far too loud for decent conversation - shame as it was a birthday get together and involved people who didn't know each other very well so it would have been handy to be able to hear each other speak. Food was fine. Service was very good. Wouldn't rush back.
A classic City gastro pub. It can be super super busy (some people call this uber trendy and vibrant). The staff are extremely friendly. The menu has all of the classic favourities. I can rarely get beyond either one of their pies or the fish & chips. The standard of cooking is very high (for a gastro pub). My friends tell me that the beers and ales are really good. I know that the wine list has some unusual options on it.
We just moved into the area and were out in search of our new local when we stopped in the Kings Stores for Sunday roast. There is an excellent chance we've found our new local. To begin with the staff, especially our waitress 'Lexy' were absolutely fantastic and fun. The atmosphere is wonderful, a comfortable gastro-pub feel with exposed brick walls, comfortable seating (not packed in like sardines) and a fun use of desk lamp lighting mounted on the walls. The food was great. The roast beef was very tasty with a particularly good gravy and great selection of veg as sides. To top dinner off we had one of the best sticky toffee puddings I've had in London for quite a while. The customers in the pub we a great mix of young central east Londoners.
was taken here or a retirement lunch and did not realise what a good place to eat this was. The choice and size of portions was really good and the service efficient and knowledgeable. the whole place had a good atmosphere and despite being busy on a Friday lunch time was not intrusive.
definitely recommended to revisit.
Had a lovely time at King's Stores, food was good and tasty, excellent service, and good value, my only word of caution is it did get quite loud as a lot of people were watching a football match on the big screens. I will definitely go again!
Been to the Kings Stores on several occasions for Sunday lunch. The service, food & wine are consistently good. The staff are always approachable, friendly and professional. Ideal after a mooch round Spitalfields.
Excellent 'home cooked' pub food in a pleasant setting near Spitalfields Market. Great for a Sunday lunch.
The food came extremely quickly after ordering.
We sat in the dining area off the downstairs bar. We were expecting the first floor dining area as this is what is photographed for Open Table and one of the reasons why we chose it as it looks lovely.
Anywhere that serves a deliciously crunchy Yorkshire pudding no matter what meat you choose, gets my vote. The pork belly was beautifully cooked, not fatty but moist with a good amount of crispy crackling. Veg were not overcooked and you also get roast parsnips! Service was excellent and my only gripe was that it was a bit chilly in the restaurant, possibly from a draught coming down the stairs. A few degrees warmer and things would have been utterly perfect.
My boyfriend and I booked this restaurant for Valentine's Day (we didn't want anything romantic!) It was quite noisy when we first went in as there was football on the TV, but the staff told us it had just finished so would be turned off.
It's quite an open space so we could still hear the noise of the bar in the eating area, so we did struggle to have a conversation. It was also quite dark in there - probably not great if you visit with children.
The food was absolutely fantastic, the Sunday Roast was delicious. The staff were friendly and service was great. I would visit again but definitely not when there's a game on!
I was Three for my husband birthday. We are from Italy And I would like To have Sunday roast for Lunch. Very Good food And Nice staff. Thank You Very much forse The candle on The dessert. It was lovely. A Little bit too expensive.
One word - superb. Our group of 4 booked a table for 6.30 and ended up staying the entire night. Really good menu and wine list that was matched by the excellent service.
Three or four real ales and a short but varied menu, mixing the innovative with pub classics, at reasonable prices, makes the Kings Stores a good place to head to for a leisurely lunch. Service is unhurried and friendly and the lack of loud background allows for easy conversation.
