This was a great place to eat. We made reservations well ahead of time and had a good table next to the window. Our waitress gave us a history of the Tavern and made food suggestions. We enjoyed the peanut soup and my game pie was excellent! One of us had the lamb shanks and another had the steak. All of it was delicious. There was fun live music, too.

This was TERRIBLE!
Put in a room with a big group, effectively a quarterly business review, so we were ignored by the total lame an forgetful server.. it took 20 min for her get our drink order. Then another 20 to get our drinks that she got wrong.. our order followed the group.. so it was cold an we sent it back.. the kitchen and the server just did not give a darn.. not good! Won’t go back...

My wife and we’re celebrating or 36th Anniversary. We made reservations for 7:00 pm. We arrived about 10 minutes early. Introduced our selves and where promptly seated. Our waitress gave us menus and selections of the day. Gave us a few moments and returned to take our order. Our dinner was served in a timely manor and food done as we had asked. We both enjoyed our meals. We topped off the nite with a shared desert and coffee. The two of us where quite pleased everything. A fun place to go and a step back in time as well.

The King's Arm Tavern transports you back to like having an elegant dinner in the 1770's.
The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. I would encourage anyone traveling to the Williamsburg area to try eating at the King's Arm Tavern.

A warm welcome from our docent hostess. Our server, James, was excellent. Outstanding food. Enjoyed the colonial musician and his quick history lessons.

The tavern just opened for the season. We were very disappointed in the peanut soup, not much flavor. The chop shoot and Cornish hen was average, ordinary at best. Then at the table next to us were 4 men who were very very loud and seemed to have had too much to drink. Very unpleasant for other diners, we ended up cancelling our next day reservation.

My only complaint would be our server. He never did anything to make our meal a special evening. He was hard to understand, he never smiled, and most of all he made no attempt to make the evening special. We had friends with us from out of state, and he could and should have been much more engaging to his customers. The food was great, the atmosphere was good, but the server was sort of a let down.

We have been here many time before and everything had been great. This time not so much. The service was great but the food was not. My salmon was dry, barely warm as was the vegetables. The portions were small. My partner prime rib was good, but again the vegetables were barely warm and portions small.
My favorite soup - peanut soup - was watery, almost taste less and barely warm.
I am hopeful that this was an anomaly. Time will tell

I have visited the Kings Arms Tavern every time I have come to Williamsburg, VA. I started doing that in 1962. I love the ambiance, food and friendly staff. It is an experience not to be missed.

If you are going for the ambiance, you’ll love Kings Arms. I have been going for 30+ years and have noticed changes each time. The food is really sub-par and we were disappointed in nearly every plate that hit the table. They do 2 sittings for dinner so the kitchen is forced to par cook everything and it takes like it just got heated up. Nothing was hot...just warm. The prime rib was incredibly fatty and nearly everything had way too much salt. There are a ton of places in Williamsburg to have dinner. If you want great food, I’d find something other than Kings Arms.

We visited Colonial Williamsburg during Christmas and wanted to get the full experience. We dined by candlelight, enjoyed the quaint atmosphere, and fully enjoyed being serenade by the recorder and guitar. Our server shared local customs and amused us with many stories and riddles. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the punch bowl of orange, peach, and ginger ale. The kids menu was above average and our three course meal was enjoyed. Our only disappointment was dessert was not as robust as our first evening when dining at Shields tavern.

The restaurant is broken into smaller dining rooms so the noise level is fairly low. We ate by candlelight and the food was delicious.

I've eaten at the Inn several times over the years and this was by far the worst experience. Our waiter brought the wrong food to us. We tried to catch his attention several times but couldn't and had to get up and search him out. He said he was sorry but very busy! We were his customers and he should have come back to our table to check on us. Will not eat at this Inn again.

I had Mrs. Vobe's dinner which featured prime rib this year. Usually prime rib has been part of the a la carte menu. I would not say that the prime rib is of best quality when one considers the price of the meal, which seems to have fewer and fewer inclusions as the years go by. The server was excellent, however. The past forty plus years of dining here has seen many changes, most of which have not been for the better.

Such a huge disappointment! Great reviews was the reason we choose this restaurant in addition to it being such a neat spot, however the service and food was terrible! I have to say I can’t remember having such a poor meal ever in any restaurant. Our family left hungry and we went to eat somewhere else afterwards bc no one could eat their meals! How you screw up salmon, a cheeseburger and Mac& cheese I will never know! Don’t waste your money!

Great experience in a colonial atmosphere, excellent service, unrushed meal. Interesting cocktail offerings. Food was tasty, but not spectacular, except for the rum cream pie. We’ve dined in three Colonial Williamsburg taverns in the past year, and were disappointed that none had spoonbread.

Service, colonial candle-lit ambiance and music were all special; the food, however, was very disappointing. Fish arrived tough and barely lukewarm with cold sauce. Squash “steak” consisted of several pieces, some cooked perfectly and others undercooked and tough. Green beans and mashed potatoes were bland. We’ve had much better food at cheap “meat and threes” for 1/10th of the price. Weird seating system too ... Waiting in a dark lounge until 8-10 parties could be seated all at once. We’ve had much better experiences at other taverns and won’t choose Kings Arm again.

Nice evening. Our waiter didn’t really tell us any history. That was disappointing. And we were all very disappointed with the change in the peanut soup recipe. Not nearly as good as it used to be. Our 10 year old noticed it first. Thought it tasted watered down. Not nearly as thick as it used to be. Our meals were good. We've been coming about once a year. After this experience, we will likely stick with Christiana Campbell’s.
