Kingfisher Restaurant & Wine Bar at Sleeping Lady
Dinner: Daily 5:30 - 8:00 PM, with extended hours to 8:30 PM on Friday, Saturday and holidays.
This place was wonderful love the station type dining food was top-notch five-star dining
We had a fantastic anniversary dinner at Kingfisher this week. The buffet-style service was a little unusual but our waiter, Hans was very thorough in explaining the evenings buffet selections, food preparation, and answered any questions we had. Hans used to work at the Kent Stowell restaurants in Seattle but relocated to the Leavenworth area for the slower pace. Great waiter! You've never seen a salad bar like this. One of the salads was a very unique seaweed and squid combination that was fantastic. And the miso soup prepared by sous chef Ryan was subtle and very flavorful without being too salty. There were options for a meat entrée, fish (salmon) and vegetarian. I've had better salmon but the steak was very tender (prepared medium) was and complemented with a great horseradish sauce.
Overall our meal was excellent. I highly recommend Kingfisher at Sleeping Lady in Icicle Canyon/Leavenworth.
Our waiter was very attentive and provided exceptional customer service throughout the meal. The meal was great but I did not care for the mango salsa on the wonderful pork roast. Had to limit myself to 2 desserts.
Excellent food and service. Well worth the expense.
The food at Kingfisher is outstanding. Only Mana and Watershed in Leavenworth are on same plane food-wise. Yet Kingfisher is not well known as it is on the grounds of the Sleeping Lady Resort about 3 miles out of town. It is primarily the dining room for guests at the resort, but making an Open Table reservation will get you in without being a resort guest.
The dining room is beautiful, with a lodgy ambience and overlooks the Icicle River flowing nearby. The quirky part is that the food is served buffet style. You will have a friendly local as your server, but will serve yourself at the salad, main course and dessert stations. But this is the best buffet food you will ever have -- gourmet quality with lots of local ingredients, including vegetables and herbs grown in the one acre herb garden on the property (open to the public to walk through) Wine list is good, with a number of local selections included. Not as extensive as the list at Visconti's, but well-curated.
Prices are not cheap - the food is gourmet and you are eating at a resort property after all. But it is definitely worth heading out Icicle Road to try Kingfisher. One nice benefit is that the resort is generally less crowded than town - Kingfisher is a great alternative when the in-town restaurants are full.
We loved the service from your friendly staff. From the servers to hostess to staff from the buffet line all seemed happy to help and happy to be part of the Kingfisher .
This place is consistently good with a wondeful food selection and a lot of locally sourced food.
Given their advertisements and the hype we had heard we were disappointed. Self service or buffet style for everything except drinks. Food was OK but not great. Definitely not elegant dining!
The Kingfisher Restaurant at Sleeping Lady Resort delivers an incredible buffet brunch, with delicious organic and local foods, friendly service and beautiful surroundings.
A good experience to go with the ambience of Sleeping Lady Resort. The food is buffet style and includes vegetarian options. It is a bit pricey but worth staying on the property for dinner.
Our server was great: warm, personable and professional.
The view overlooking the Sleeping Lady herself and Icicle Creek, including the Chihuly art was great.
We ate at Kingfisher two nights in a row and were happy!
The prime rib was excellent. A very peaceful location out in woods of western Washington. The buffet was nice but a bit pricey.
We reserved a table at 10am. Open Table accepted the reservation and we did not find out until we arrived about 10 minutes prior that they close at 10am. We barely had time to fill a plate before they whisked away the food. In fact my sister filled my plate because I stepped into the rest room and would have missed the hot food entirely.
That's ridiculous!! Open Table should not have accepted the reservation and Kingfisher should have called us to arrange earlier.
This is our 2nd visit to the Kingfisher for brunch. When I found out halfway through the meal that it was only 20.00 per person, I was astounded. The food is quality, quality, quality! Service for drinks was fast and our attendant/server was so nice! We'll be back.
A feast with incredible service and ambience
We went to Kingfisher for a romantic brunch before attending the onsite spa for couples massages. When I made the reservations, it listed 10am as the "last seating" for the breakfast, which was served buffet style. Luckily we arrived 15 minutes early for our reserved time, because otherwise we wouldn't have gotten any food at all. They started clearing the buffet promptly at 10am and we missed out on getting to try many of the food options. Opentable should be aware of this, and change the "last seating" option to be at least 30 minutes before end of service. We also found that the quality of food that we were able to try was not much better than standard hotel breakfast buffet fare, and seemed to have declined considerably from other brunches and dinners I've enjoyed at the Kingfisher in the past. This was probably my 6th time eating here, and the first time I've left feeling disappointed.
A wonderful mixture of taste and texture. Enjoyed the variety of food offered. We were able to hold a normal conversation with feeling that neighboring tables were part of it. We will definitely return.
Long walk to the restaurant from parking lot on an uneven dimly lit winding walk. And that's with a handicap parking card.
Restroom in bulding next to restaurant. The restaurant itself is nice, staff friendly. Food ok. Very expensive, and that's without wine.
Everything about the restaurant was a disappointment. The food was over cooked, the salad bar was not very good. They ran out of desserts. Only good thing was our waiter. The soft drink service was very good, wine came in a reasonable time, coffee was delivered as soon as we asked for it. Table clearing was good.
We made a reservation for 9am, their last seating, and the waitress informed us that all of the hot food was being pulled in the next 5 minutes. We raced over and were served the last bits of eggs and old bacon. Luckily the sausage was still good, but we were only given 1 small link. I understand not wanting to make too much food and be wasteful, but if they seat people for breakfast at 9, it's reasonable to expect that those guests will still have access to quality hot food. I had been looking forward to taking my husband out to the Sleeping Lady for years, so needless to say, we were both very disappointed.
Very positive experience. Our server, Jennifer, went beyond her responsibilities.
I love the Kingfisher Restaurant. It is one of my favorites. I go there when in Leavenworth I always find time to dine there.
A hidden gem in Leavenworth. Request Hans as your server.
we had a 5:30 reservation for dinner. arrived ten minutes prior and was told unceremoniously to go back outside and wait till they opened. we were then ushered out and the front door locked behind us.
we were finally let in and seated then find out dinner is served buffet style. the food was excellent but we were expecting a different dining experience for our anniversary.
be aware that the restaurant is quite a hike from the parking lot. I would not take anyone who has limited mobility.
Our group numbered 12, varying in ages 2-88, and everyone was pleased with their meal; no mean feat. The staff was great and the service was efficient (buffet style so mostly we took care of our own needs). Kind of pricey but it worked for us for a large family gathering.
We have been here several times and had such great experiances that it was natural that we wanted to come back for the great food and ambiance. This time was different. The service was the best thing about our nigt. The food was terrible. Swordfish was overcooked. Asparagus and morels were so salty. Potatoes were overcooked and mush. The rice in the vegetarian option was like minute rice- with a thai curry, should have been a good jasmie rice. The dessert selection was sparse and no additionals were brought out to replace the ones that were out. Overall, not sure we will come back.
On our first visit the food was good and service was great. On our second visit the food was great and service still great. We had a party of six with one child and all were very happy with the meal and seating and service. There was a large selection of food items and all being tasty.
Firstly We had a hard time finding this place, or gps took us somewhere else. We eventually found is nestled within a resort type area. We went during the buffet, it was pretty late, the place was nearly empty which was sort of a bummer. There was a more beautiful part of the restaurant but they sat everyone in a dark corner of the establishment entirely away from the pictures I saw, which was why I booked the reservation in the first place. All the chairs were stacked in the nicer part like they shut it down later I suppose. The food however was good, the desert options amazing. I am vegetarian and I was able to find decent options too.
We celebrated our 30th Anniversary with a weekend in Leavenworth. We also met my wife's brother and his wife who were spending their 40th Anniversary. I wanted to make it a special dinner for the both of us. I searched the internet for a restaurant to fit the occasion. I was impressed with the reviews that I located on the web for the King Fisher. We weren't disappointed. The food was fabulous and our waiter was extremely knowledgeable in regards to what was being served, the wine list and even saw to it that we both received a special dessert for the occasion. I would highly recommend this dining experience to anyone who loves good food and a rustic atmosphere. We will definitely return.
One of our favorite options in Leavenworth. An upscale buffet with tasty choices and easy dining with kids make this a spot my family loves to come back to. The dessert options are stellar - I should have saved more room!
I hadn't been to Kingfisher for several years, and looked forward to the buffet. Perhaps because it was after the holidays and the crowd was smaller (I couldn't get a reservation until after Jan 3) there seemed to be fewer offerings in their usually massive spread. The food was very good but the $42 price point probably means I'll only come back for a very special occasion. The server was warm and welcoming, and the ambiance very lodge-y. I've been to better buffets for less, but hey, this is Leavenworth.
We were there for a girls dinner part of a Bachelorette weekend. Our server Juley was amazing. Gave us great pointers for a great weekend. Great atmosphere through-out entire dinner. Food was amazing. Couldnt get enough.
Had the privilege of spending the weekend in Leavenworth for my sisters bachelorette party. Since large groups are usually hard to plan eating arrangements for I was excited to see that this restaurant had a seating of up to 8 option. So we snagged a 10am reservation. Upon arriving we quickly learned their Buffett is pulled at 10:05am. Such a waste of a half an hour of my life to drive out there and back! And when I asked the hostess why they would allow a 10am reservation if their food is pulled at 10:05 she said oh yea that happens sometimes...
This place really captures the NW environment. Actually, the Sleeping Lady and Kingfisher Restaurant are nestled in the NW environment without disturbing too much. Beautiful serene surroundings. Beautiful buildings. Top quality.
We have eaten at Kingfisher several times. The food can be wonderful sometimes and disappointing at others. On Sunday, the food was disappointing. The swordfish was dry and somewhat tough. The vegetarian entre, felafal, was too spicy and very dry, with no sauce to go with it. In general, Kingfisher does not put much effort into its vegetarian entres. The salad bar and desserts were good. The setting is beautiful.
Its' not really a buffet and not really a restaurant. You don't actually have any choice for main entry: it's one and only choice and everybody is getting the same. The price of $42 seems a little too big for such choice. And they are trying to put as small amount as possible on your plate. Salad bar is good, though... Desert choice is poor. Service is poor. We got 1 tiny piece of butter with 2 bans that were cold. We ordered 2 glasses of vine and got glasses filled by 1/4. The food became cold very soon, probably they should have bother to warm plates...There were many such small things that just created disappointment. Overall we got impression that they were trying to save money just everywhere, not to provide clients with great service.
The Kingfisher is well known for their food and their fixed menu had some really interesting items to try. They have a "buffet" style fixed menu and some of the food was good, some was great and some was ok. Overall, I was a little underwhelmed by the food but enjoyed the meal overall. The salad was really good, the best blue cheese I have ever tried. The desserts were ok....a bit of a let down. They had an artichoke soup that was divine!
We went for a birthday dinner and had small children with us. We had a great meal and nice service.
Our server was very helpful and responsive to our needs. Something was off though when the server had to apologize in advance that the cooks may not be at the meat and potatoes counter to serve your dinner when you go for your food.
Sure enough when I went to get some of the steak; I had to wait to find a cook to be served any of it. I found this disappointing. Overall the steak and swordfish were not bad but I had come in with higher expectations.
The selection of fruit was great and everyone enjoyed that. The other deserts - while there where plenty of them, tasted as if out of a box.
There was a toy box for kids to pull out an item to bring to the table. This was nice to have to provide another piece of entertainment for my kids - nice family touch.
The price was surprising high - I have taken my family of 6 to many restaurants where I thought the food was better and never had to end up paying ~160 dollars (not including tip).
We arrived for our reservation on a cold and rainy night during the first week in November. This is the slack period in Leavenworth before the Christmas Crush begins and Kingfisher was almost empty. There was one server/host/bartender who greeted us warmly and seated us before a blazing fireplace. She took our order for drinks (and made them) and invited us to use the soup bar (clam chowder was great) and the salad bar (fresh and extensive) before taking our order. The menu had been dispensed with and it was steak or scallops (or both or any combination that your liked). It was a free style evening. We had a great meal and really enjoyed our evening.
We enjoyed two meals here while staying at Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort. Both meals were excellent. First meal was dinner and we enjoyed every course from the variety on The salad bar to the great pumpkin soup, entrees to the amazing desert. Second meal was breakfast and also wonderful.
