Kingfisher Bar & Grill Ratings and Reviews
We have dined at Kingfisher several times and go there for the great sea food menu. Our last visit seemed like the food was a little off from the usual. My fish cakes were not very flavorable but the accompanying salad was very good. Also the oysters Rockefeller were very small and on the dry side. Disappointing. However my dinner guests had the swordfish special and they like it very much.
We visit this restaurant at least once a month for several years and this time it was disappointing. After being seated it took at least 20 minutes for anyone to come by for our drink order, then another 10 minutes for our waiter to finally show up. Meanwhile he was attended to other tables. He did apologize for the mishap. Then we ordered a dozen oysters, which came without any sauces, he did bring the sauces after we had almost finished half the service. My wife ordered the sea bass which was done nicely, I figured I would splurge and get the Alaskan King crab legs.
Now what comes to mind when you see Alaskan King Crab legs? I picture those things that you see at Von's or Safeway. You know, they are about 12 or 15 inches and 3/4 of an inch in diameter. What I got was about 7 or 8 tiny legs about the diameter of my little finger. It took me more labor to extract the meat that the whole plate was worth. My wife had already finished her fish while I was still sitting trying to pick up the meat using the end of a cocktail fork. I would rather had two nice size legs, that this dish. This may have been Alaskan Crab but King it was several years of growth still required.
I probably should have asked exactly how much meat I was to expect from the order, after all the work and little yield it is probably not their best seller. After many visits here, this is the first time we walked away with a hohum experience which is sad since I know they can do a much better job. I guess everyone had off nights, this was definitely ours.
Our recent dining experience at the Kingfisher bar and Grill was wonderful. Our waiter Elijah was very accommodating and always checking on us to make sure our needs were satisfied. Without hesitation I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys a good dinner. Both my wife and I enjoyed the mahi-mahi dinner, the fish was cooked perfectly, it arrived on hot plates which few restaurants do in this day an age. The sides were very delicious presentation was beautifully designed.
Good, sometimes unusual seafood options. Broth with steamed clams was very good, took the rest home with me, not my usual practice. Lamb shank cassoulet was also tasty, though without the dark top crust some aficionados insist is obligatory. Somewhat pricey, but once or twice a year for a special occasion, what the hey.
For a second time, we have seen this restaurant allow regular pets (not service animals) to be SEATED AT A TABLE - and they do not have outside seating. Last evening they allowed a group of people to put a dog in their restaurant high-chair for children. At another time they allowed a dog to be seated in a regular seat with it's paws on the table - although we left before we found out if they served the dog food. When I approached the host about this practice, they would only reply that the patrons were "very good customers". Apparently you have to eat there on a regular basis in order to commit a health code violation. Won't go back, and I don't really see how Open Table can continue to promote this restaurant. Wish I had taken a picture so I could upload the photo for your website.
I scheduled a surprise Birthday Dinner for my wife. Our friends showed up before us and were, in the middle of a busy restaurant, hiding their faces behind their menus. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. The food was outstanding and the our server was spectacular.
Birthday dinner date was perfect! My favorite seafood in Tucson (originally from NJ, so I know seafood and am very picky here in Tucson). Clam chowder was on point, lobster roll was delicious, salmon was excellent. Nice wine selection, reasonably priced. Quiet, warm atmosphere, classic jazz. Nailed it!
Good food and service, with a varied selection of options. Same goes for the beer menu. Only downfall was the noise. The tables are closely spaced and we happened to be there during a U of A football game, so there was a lot of noise (including from one of the TVs, which had its sound on quite at high volume).
This restaurant was a gamble. I looked up seafood restaurants in Tucson and this popped up. I believed there was a good chance that this place would be mediocre at best. Boy was I wrong. The place was packed, the wait staff were very friendly, and the food was phenomenal. For being in the desert, the seafood was incredible. I will highly recommend this place to all my friends and will definitely be coming back.
We've visited Kingfisher on a number of occasions and have always been satisfied. This latest dinner was true to form.
All meals were enjoyed. Service was prompt and knowledgeable. Drinks were good though I wasn't overly excited with the reds offered by the glass.
The first time we dined here my wife fell in love with their house warm cabbage salad. As usual it was excellent!
Will certainly bring guests here without any qualms!
Hard to find good seafood in Tucson. It was great. Only concern was the noise level. The room is built well to hold the number of folks with noise reduction built into the overhead and walls. But it was still very difficult to hear my bride on our 28th wedding anniversary. That might be more due to my age then their atmosphere. But it was hard to have a nice dinner. Bring the noise level down 20dB and it wold have been a five star experience.
Kingfisher deserves its reputation of the best seafood in Tucson. We had grilled sea bass tostadas and the smoked rainbow trout for lunch entrees. We had the peeled shrimp apetizer. There were great daily fish specials selections. The exterior of the restaurant is not impressive, but once inside, the atmosphere was transformed. It was our first time here and our waitress was very helpful in explaining the specials and the preparation of various dishes. Great job. The wine list is excellent, featuring fine wines by the glass as well as a variety of half bottles. We look forward to returning.
