Kingfisher Bar & Grill
Wonderful meal and fantastic serviy!
Very friendly service. Food was very good, especially the oysters.
Went there recently with my wife for lunch. The cocktail, oysters on the half shell, and seafood entrees (a mac nut crusted fish and a daily special baked oysters) were fantastic. The presentation of the raw oysters was particularly noteworthy, with multiple sauces/sides (our favorites: lemon wedges, fresh lemon juice, and fresh grated ginger and horseradish).
The main disappointment was the dessert. We asked for a recommendation on a not overly sweet dessert, and ended up with a terribly sweet dense chocolate brick. We also do not recommend the cappuccino, which should be mostly thick foam over espresso, but seemed to be a full cup of black coffee with a very light foam over the top.
That said, we will be back for the appetizers and entrees, and just pass on the dessert menu.
Great find! Would recommend to fish lovers.
We were not positively impressed. Table placement was terrible - right on a corner and close to server station. Seemed to be many other tables available.
Food was not up to any reasonable standard. Calamari appetizer was a strange mixture of soggy fried Calimari mixed with some sort of salad-like topping. Fish and Chips was greasy and French Fries were soggy. Couple with us had "Hawaiian Fish" which was dry. We had a Theatre reservation and slow service (even for properly prepared fish) had us in a time bind to make it.
Very disappointing as we had been to this restaurant before (around 18 months ago) and remembered it as being a pleasant dining experience.
Restaurant location was very sketchy but the service was very good and the menu was interesting and well prepared . Overall 4/5
Took 30 minutes to get a cocktail. Server indicated the computer was down and then I think she forgot.
The meal was outstanding! My wife had the Sea Bass and I had the Swordfish special. The waiter was very attentive and so was the bus staff. We were seated immediately for our reservation. My wife was able to select the sides she wanted due to dietary concerns and they obliged all her requests. The appetizers were brought out in a timely fashion and the meal followed a few minutes later. We opted for no desert and our bill was processed quickly.
The only negatives were the parking was not adequate, we had to park in front of someone’s home down a side street adjacent to the restaurant because their small parking lot was full and the noise level was very high.
Overall I still rate it 5 stars based on the food quality and service and would refer it to anyone looking for great seafood.
Sea Bass and a special of swordfish was excellent, soup of the day similar to minestone also excellent. Only slip up is they didn't have any Kalua. Make reservations as this is a very popular place.
Went for lunch during Oysterfest and enjoyed a dozen oysters from different regions and delicious grilled shrimp-very busy but service was friendly and professional-highly recommended for seafood in the desert!
I love this restaurant and will continue to patronize the Kingfisher, but I went for a special event, OysterFest, and was VERY disappointed. This was the first time I have attended this event and will also be the last. We had reservations and our table was ready on time, but it was 45 minutes from the time ordered until we received our oysters. The servers kept saying they were sorry that there was a backup on getting the oysters, but that seemed excessive. If they can’t handle the volume of tables they are reserving, in addition to “walk up” diners who could stand in line and order oysters to be eaten in an outside table area, they need to increase the number of people shucking oysters and preparing the plates, or decrease the number of people they are trying to serve.
I might have been a bit more patient about the wait, had our order been correct when it finally arrived. There were 15 different varieties of oysters available and 2 of us, so we ordered two of each variety. They brought 3 disposable, round aluminum trays with (supposedly) 5 varieties in each tray, along with the list of varieties. The person who delivered the oysters (not our original server) pointed to one of the varieties and said to start there and work clockwise “down the list” as we tasted around the trays. After working our way through the first tray, we realized that there had been only 4 varieties on that tray. We confirmed there were 5 varieties on the other trays. When we asked our server about it, he didn’t know which variety was missing and there was no way we could identify which oysters we had actually eaten and which ones were still to come. He didn’t offer to go check with the people shucking and try to identify the oysters, but offered to bring us the two missing oysters of any variety we chose. 1 of those 2 had so much shell it was inedible. So, I highly recommend getting the great oysters from their regular menu and skipping the crowded Oysterfest.
You just have to get the right thing. The chilled shrimp appetizer is delightful and their bread is really good. The wild rice and plain rice are just....plain. Neither rice was cooked properly nor did they look or taste appealing. The fish and chips is quite good, but the tarter sauce served with it is odd tasting. The trout is amazing! I have had their Hawaiian fish before and it’s delicious. The chocolate chip pecan tart doesn’t taste like anything but chunks of chocolate chips in a crust. I expected more, but if that’s your thing, go for it.
We love Wyatt, the food, the place! Favorite place.
One of the best meals I've had in a long time. The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside - please don't let it fool you. The ambiance was perfect for our anniversary dinner. We enjoyed a cocktail before dinner and decided on the shrimp and scallop cerviche to start. The cerviche was fresh and delicious - enough to make a full meal. The entrees were amazing. I ordered the steelhead and the hubby ordered the ahi - both were prepared perfectly. We will be back!
Surprisingly in a desert city, this seafood place is outstanding. Creative dishes, nice ambiance. The only slight issue is parking, but we found a nearby space on the street.
Very nice service from all of the staff. Food was excellent and even the decaf coffee had a good flavor.
my sea bass was very nice. roger's fish and chips was just average. friend's monk fish was very nice too. Love your house gin being Gordon's. It's my fav and very hard to find. Good service. Improve quality of the fish in the fish and chips.
Best ribs i have ever had. The prickly pear sauce is just the best thing ever
Surprise of the night was the grilled and chilled shrimp-outstanding! Service at the bar is great.
The service we received was outstanding. Our waitress knew just when to check on us and was very pleasant. The service set the tone for our entire meal.
Great as always!! We had never shrimp patties before. Like them as well or better than see an patties.
Remains our favorite choice for sea food.
I had the Hawaiin fish, it was overcooked and had a minimal crust which was the good part. I asked for substitute veggies instead of rice, told salad was an up charge, that would have been okay but it was such a small amount it was just added to my hot plate. The spinach was good. My husbands meal was just okay too. I expected more for the price.
We have been to Kingfisher several times. This was our best visit ever.
Fantastic seafood and service!
Wonderful oysters Rockefeller appetizer! Delicious salmon special with risotto and steamed spinach both perfectly prepared. Wonderful orange ricotta cheesecake completed the meal. Chose a Paso Robles white wine. Great experience.
Not bad but over rated and costly. Worth one visit because they’re a landmark restaurant, but no need to go back.
I love seabass and every time it's been great. I have always been accommodated to changes in how it is prepared.
The entre was excellent. These sides were a bit over the top toward haute cuisine for my taste, but good. The only real disappointment was the bread. The last couple of times we've been there the bread was an exquisite sourdough, but this time it was just good bread - nothing special. Too bad!
Three of us dined. The service was very good. I had sea bass which was divine, my sister had
swordfish..also very good. My husband said the ribs were the best he had had in years.
Clams were good, spinach, sprout, apple salad ...delicious. Oysters were okay not great.
Excellent meal and service. In particular, the dessert, a Hummingbird Cake, was extraordinary. Just a word about your "value" category. I'm assuming that you mean the price paid was worth the expenditure for the experience paid. Kingfisher is always worth it.
Consistently one of the best restaurants in Tucson. Staff are attentive but not intrusive. Diverse menu that, in my opinion does not disappoint. I've been driving from Oro Valley to Kingfisher since the 90's knowing it will be well worth the drive.
Food was great- try the warm cabbage and the calamari. Better than we’ve had most places and unique, and delicious preparation. The whitefish was buttery and delicious, the service was excellent. We’ll definitely be back. Went to the top of our “must eat here” list for Tucson. We’re from the valley and have a couple favorite Tucson places. This is now one!
everyone in our group had fish this time and the Ahi was very good. It was served more how we make it instead of sliced like most restraunts but it was very good none the less. Always a stop when in Tucson
Waiter east attentive. Food always delicious!
One of our favorite restaurants.
Kingfisher has no pretensions beyond delicious food and lovely service. It's reliable and peaceful, like "coming home."
Excellent service. Our drinks arrived quickly. We really enjoyed the ceviche. Two of our party ordered bouillabaisse. It was delicious. The other member of our party ordered the clams. They were outstanding. As usual we ordered our deserts to go. The chocolate torte was absolutely decadent.
Our server, Eli was wonderful. The swordfish was very tasty and they made adjustments to suit my taste. My wife had the Hawaiian fish but she liked mine better.
Great locally owned and operated seafood house. Fresh oysters, other fish and seafood dominate the menu. Good wine list with some local Arizona wines on it. The Picpoul was perfect with the seasonal oysters and the Artic Char special.
We have loved going to the Kingfisher grill for a late lunch. The food has always been superb. However this evening, 6:45 pm, meal was just ok. We were at a table that had virtually no light to read the menu. The waiter suggested we use our phone’s light. I had specifically selected my meal for the charred Brussels sprouts but it came with string beans that didn’t seem to be cooked enough. The other guest in our party just said it was fine.
Our waiter absolutely did not care whether we liked our meal or not. My wife picked the special, and the potatoes on her plate were dry and stale. The fish was average as well. When i spoke with the waiter about my dissatisfaction with the meal he said nothing, picked up the plate and walked away. No apologies, nothing. IT WAS AWFUL, and this on my wife’s 50th birthday. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT. Save your money and go to Wildflower instead... that place was AMAZING.
