They made this such a special occasion, everyone we met was so lovely and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back.
Good food, pricey given hotel location. Enjoyed the Black Sea Bass.
Food was good, we missed out on one of our entrees so timing was off. Managment corrected the issue and apologized for the mishap. Overall food was delicious!
I chose Kingbird for a Saturday brunch in honor of a close friend who is getting married in a few weeks ( casual bridal shower brunch). The restaurant was very accommodating and let me put balloons and treats at the table that i brought in myself, and even gave us a complimentary dessert for the bride-to-be. The server was very attentive and went the extra mile to provide a nice morning for us. It was not very crowded - we were there for 3 hours and never felt rushed. Overall i am so glad I chose this place for our get-together!
Although the food was really good, the service was awful, therefore almost ruining the occasion.
Had been wanting to try this place for some time as a good dinenr spot before the Kennedy Center. The ambiance was great and the service was fabulous . The food was just OK, though... not fabulous... it came out promptly but was a little cold. Considering the prices, which are a little steep, I had expected better.
Had lunch after concert at Kennedy Center. Eating there is an experience that transcends the meal. Service is impeccable. Prices are exhorbitant but this is for the location, the ambiance and the service. The food is also very good. Would do this again.
Disappointed in the breakfast buffet. Three different servers told us everything on the a la carte menu (which included avocado toast, lobster Benedict, and chia seed pudding) was on the buffet. So obviously we chose the buffet. None of that was to be seen. Only basic plain waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, and fruit and pastries. We felt like it was a bait and switch and not worth the buffet price.
After we finished our appetizer course, we waited for 45 minutes to be served our entrees. Since we had a theater time to meet, we had to skip dessert.
Pre theatre meal. Good food. Great wine and dessert. Downfall was a very rude hostess who didn’t make eye contact nor offer greetings but just stared at her iPad. Her co hostess made the excuse that they were busy; however for a restaurant of this level and price point that is INEXCUSABLE.
waiters were very friendly
Makes me want to go to another restaurant before my KC shoes...if you’re too busy to serve me.
Great place! Excellent food. Staff gets overwhelmed before a large show at Kennedy Center so schedule your dinner with plenty of time to curtain. Two hours prior to showtime will work. Anything less than that and you won’t enjoy the experience. Our waiter got us out right on time but there were plenty of large pauses between courses.
Food was delicious and the server was very attentive.
Wine pour was clearly short. Food was very good, the ambiance was great.
Service here was surprisingly bad. We waited over an hour for our food during a not at all busy time. One of the dishes that came out was the wrong dish. Drinks were not refilled unless we flagged someone down and asked for them to be refilled. It felt like our table was largely forgotten by the wait staff. Very disappointing for such a seemingly nice restaurant.
The service and food were excellent, as were the drinks. It was a little noisy but it seemed to die down after the Kennedy Center performances. Private conversations were not really very private.
Service was incredibly slow despite both the hostess AND the server acknowledging that we had theater tickets. The cocktails, the appetizers, and the entrees all took a shocking amount of time to come out and despite our comments the server gave us a casual “sorry” and nothing changed at all. Also we asked the assistant server as he was cleaning up our table what the interesting butter was that is served with the starter bread and he was very flustered and confused. We then mentioned this to our lead server who laughed (yes laughed) and said “oh he’s new and training”...ummm, well then why is he alone???
Doubtful we will return.
Nice environment before a show at the Kennedy Center
Could not ask for a better dinning experience in D. C. From being greeted, seated, and waited upon, it was a lovely evening. The menu was just the right size and offered enough diversity that everyone was happy. The wine selection is superb as well as the knowledge of the person who took time to describe the various wines to us. Desert was the highlight of the meal - we are all still talking about it.
Great food excellent service! Really enjoyed the Pre-theater menu.
We came before seeing Cats at the Kennedy Center. Beautiful, great food and attentive service. Wanted to try everything on the menu - can’t wait to come back!
The evening was excellent. The Waitress knew the menu and made excellent suggestions. The food arrived hot and the presentation was outstanding. The wine list provided us with many choices and the Wine Stewart guided us to an excellent Chardonnay. The atmosphere was pleasant and very quiet.
This restaurant was a "find"...very happy experience.
Christina was our waiter for Sunday brunch. She took extra efforts to bring tea to one of the guests of the three that were not drinking adult beverages or coffee. She also knew everything about food content and menu content. The food was outstanding for a buffet. Fresh, well prepared and abundant. Absolutely loved the chairs. Comfort from the minute we sat down and commented on by two of us immediately. Christina also knew everything about the design of the chairs, their individual cost and the fact that they were made solely for Kingbird and not sold to others. Can't wait to go again.
Good food and service.
The food was good except for the many bones in the halibut.
Between us, we tried all three available fish dishes. The halibut was the winner. We were given a comfortable booth with a panoramic view of the Potomac - an unexpected treat. Best of all we were headed to the Kennedy Center for a performance and a bit short on time, so particularly appreciated our servers being super efficient, anticipating our needs, and even pointing out a shortcut back to the Kennedy Center. Can't really ask for more - good food and good people in a good location.
Absolutely perfect. The food and drinks were outstanding...
Consistently outstanding in every way! Food, wine, service - everything is top notch!
Our waiter was great and very polite. There were two hostesses coming at intervals, both saw people standing and neither greeted anyone. It was early (5:15ish) and many open tables, there shouldn't have been a line). An establishment like this should have better hostess etiquettes. Food was not excellent, but just great. We had the pre-fix menu and our appetizer was delicious (layered ?? w/ foie gras). My friend and I both had the black sea bass with gnocchi. The gnocchi was OK, we've had better. My friend's crème brulee was just OK but my lemon cream was excellent. Very close to the Kennedy Center which was nice as we went to a show.
We chose Kingbird because of it's location near the Kennedy Center; we had tickets to a show. Kingbird has a very nice prix fixe menu or they will make substitutions. The food was great quality and the restaurant was very clean and updated. They even gave us a shortcut to walk from the restaurant to the Kennedy Center.
First off this place is so difficult to find. We drove and planned on valet parking and while you can easily see the “watergate hotel” awning, there is zero signage for entrance to valet. Then once entering the hotel, there’s little signage to the Kingbird restaurant. On a Saturday evening, they had a limited Prix fixe menu with the option to order al la carte. The tartare starter had this toast that was crunchy and as hard as a rock. The service was extremely slow and it took ages for us to receive our entree. The bathrooms are extremely far from the dining room and you must go downstairs. Just to get our waiters attention to ask for the bill (we had been finished with dessert for 15 minutes) was nearly impossible. When we left to get our car from valet, the main valet guy said it was $20, we said we were told for dining in the restaurant it was $12. He said no, it’s $12 for the first hour. I walked inside and grabbed someone from the check in counter and told her the situation. She had to walk all the way outside and tell this valet man that we were only paying $12. I was infuriated as this guy was clearly trying to overcharge us because he thought we were stupid. I will never ever dine here again. The only reason I would return to watergate is to have a drink and lite bite at their rooftop bar which has wonderful views of the Potomac and Georgetown.
The food at the restaurant was amazing, everything was very delicious and really tasty! The service was also really great. However, We expected a little more. I had made this reservation over a month prior, as it was my husbands birthday. I wrote it down with the initial reservation. I was a bit upset that we did not get a nicer table by the window, but were placed in the middle of the restaurant, with the next table just inches away. Unfortunately the menue was different from the one online. I asked the waiter about it, who said it was just a shorter version for the night. A big let down, because we both were really excited for the salmon, which was not on the shorter menue. The food we had was really delicious, however, it was not the most pleasant atmosphere all in all, and I had higher expectations of the place. There was no music, and the menue also did not include cocktails, only wine and champagnes and beer. A great night, but not as fancy as I had hoped for. All in all,I would go back and recommend the restaurant!
Went for pre-theater dinner. Service was impeccable and food was very, very good.
Wanted to love it. Unfortunately they were disorganized and ran out of food! Really, we had reservations, they knew we were coming and they actually ran out of food. No apology, no compensation, nothing! Well, that is unless you got their excuse that the delivery guy shorted their delivery. The guy offered to walk up to Whole Foods and get me a bushel of tomatoes right then and there. Too bad he didn't do that earlier in the day! Sad.
Food was great -service excellent - drinks a little pricey
Wickedly expensive for average food and service. So convenient to the Kennedy Center, but so charml
