They had a great restaurant week deal! And their location is very convenient to the Kennedy Center, so it's a perfect place to go before a show. Will definitely be back again.

Food was fantastic and worth the price. We had a problem with service and had to mention it to the hostess. I am usually very patient and understanding (especially during restaurant week) but when a table that was seated 20 mins after us got their appetizer and drinks before we did it was a red flag. After mentioning the lapse in service, I will say we did get prompt service afterwards but it should not have come to that.

Food was very good. We went on Saturday expecting the brunch but it was Restaurant week with a very limited menu. We were disappointed in not having the full brunch menu however the food was good. The kitchen was slow so it took longer than expected to get each course. We just made it to our Ken Cen matinee.

My boyfriend and I visited Kingbird for the first time during restaurant week Brunch . We wouldn’t normally leave a negative review, but we were so disappointed. It was almost an hour after we arrived before the appetizer was served and another 45min after those plates were cleared before we got our entrees. All in all, we were at the restaurant for over 2.5 hours for brunch. The food was very small portions and the food was average quality - except the filet mignon and fries, which were great! The desserts were way over powered by mint (chocolate cake) and thyme (creme brûlée). Thankfully, the server took the drinks off our bill, otherwise we would leave only one star. Hope their service during non-restaurant week time is better!

We had a mostly good time but it took longer than we hoped for the food to arrive.

The food was wonderful and the front staff was very helpful. However, it took 45 minutes for our appetizers to show up and then half an hour after for each course. I recognize that Friday night is busy, but nobody followed up and for a while we were not sure if our order had even been put in.

Iconic locale and brilliant evening. Kingbird nails the luxury experience. The service especially cannot be beat. They really personalize everything for you. The entire staff at the Watergate treat you like royalty. It is a fabulous place, very special indeed.

Service was extremely slow during restaurant week lunch that the person pouring the waiter had to take our order after 25 mins. Food was excellent though. The wait staff or the desk never asked if the valet parking could be stamped which caused many problems when retrieving the car as the valet asked for payment while valet parking was free before 3pm.

The food was quite good and going during restaurant week made it affordable. The service was remarkably slow, even though the place wasn’t very busy. I had to find the wait staff and ask after the appetizers, the dessert, and the bill. What we expected to be a one hour lunch took well more than two.

Went for restaurant week lunch. The entire staff ; hostess, wait staff and kitchen (based on the food) was overwhelmed. There were only two choices for the main, filet mignon, which one of us had and enjoyed. I ordered the lobster pasta. The pasta was so overcooked it was glued together and then was overwhelmed with so much sauce that the flavors were indistinguishable. The two bites of lobster were fine. The service was exceptionally slow, we were there for over two hours and waited almost 30 minutes for our plates to be cleared. Generally, we only write good reviews because we all know a restaurant can have a bad day. But, once a restaurant decides to participate in restaurant week there ought to be some effort to get it right. Didn't see that at Kingbird.

Good food, great views, good service ... a very nice experience. WARNING, if you use a cane or other walking assistance aid (other than a wheel chair), this restaurant is NOT accessible. You MUST climb several stairs. There is a shaky ramp for a wheelchair but the handrails do not extend the full length, so canes, walkers, etc. have no choice other than the stairs. So much for ADA ...

Stick to drinks. This is the first review I have ever written, because the food was just that bad. Don’t do it. Went for restaurant week and can honestly say it was the worst meal I have ever had in DC. Extremely disappointing.

We took advantage of Restaurant Week to check out this restaurant. We go to the Kennedy Center often and thought this might be a nice option for eating dinner beforehand. We were so disappointed. The room is beautiful and service attentive, but the food was really awful. And, like the old Catskill joke, the portions so small.
Maybe the regular dinners are better, but I can’t understand why they would offer such a sub par experience during Restaurant Week when they could be attracting new customers.

While I understand that service might be more hectic than normal during Restaurant Week, nothing about our experience went well. Our table took some time to be ready even though the restaurant wasn't full. The server brought the wrong wine twice. Steaks were ordered rare and medium-rare but arrive hockey-puck well done. The lobster spaghetti arrived without any lobster. Service was incredibly slow (lunch took two hours) and the staff, while clearly aware of this problem, did nothing to improve the situation.

Food (restaurant week) was very good. Server came and removed my plate and other things while my wife was still finishing her meal, a No No in a good restaurant.

We went for restaurant week; the steak and "sexy fries" were very good. The pasta seemed somewhat overcooked. The wine was great, with generous pours. The restaurant itself seemed dated or from a bygone era, which was interesting, but this restaurant probably isn't a practical choice for lunch normally. It took 10-15 minutes just to be seated (we had a reservation, but there was a long line and seating was very slow), then another 20-25 minutes to place our order. Not sure if they were understaffed the day we went, but restaurant week lunch took over 2 hours. The views of the water from the dining room were also nice; would be great if the restaurant could open up its glass front wall during nice weather, so that you could feel even closer to the water.

The hotel and restaurant are beautiful. Food was fresh and delicious. Seating with a river view in a sunny winter day was a treat in itself. We did the $22 lunch for restaurant week which was a ridiculous steal.

Not sure if it was because it was restaurant week or something else, but our server was rude and inattentive. Took him over 15 minutes after we were seated to even come over to us, and then it was only to slap down the wine list without any introduction and leave. Never said his name or asked if we had questions, took our order and then we saw him two more times after that. He did not deliver our food, our entrees came out when they had not even cleared our appetizer plates. Server came by to ask if we were still waiting on our entrees after we had finished them. All in all, for an upscale restaurant the service was unacceptable- especially if his attitude was due to it being restaurant week (i get that they aren’t making normal tip amounts, which is why we usually tip a lot more to cover that but not this time).

Food was really good though and the sommelier was really pleasant/personable- we interacted more with him when he dropped off our wine than the server the entire meal!

My wife and I enjoyed our dinner at Kingbird. Ambience is great.
The main entrée was excellent - portion size was
sufficient and well-prepared. Vegetable portion could have been larger.
Food prices were slightly higher than restaurants of similar quality.
Drink prices were much too high. Overall a good experience and would
recommend.

Our daughter was visiting from out of town and I thought she would enjoy eating with my wife and me at a historic place particularly at this time. We enjoyed the buffet but I would have liked the eggs and carving stations to be maned rather than precooked and put out presliced, etc.

I dined with friends who I haven’t seen in more than 10 years. So for me, this was worth celebrating with friends. We ordered the lamb, bronzino, and another dish. Everything was wonderful. The service was impeccable. During my 3-night stay at the Watergate Hotel, I dined at the Kingbird Restaurant twice. That tells you how much I enjoy dining at this wonderful restaurant. I love the ambiance. There was a birthday party going on during dinner and I appreciated the fact that the manager gave a heads up about the event and wanted to make sure that my party and I were okay with the party going on at the table next to us. I can’t wait to return to dine at the Kingbird again. Thank you for making my trip special.

My wife and I decided to do something different for our Date Night, so we went to this Watergate Restaurant. Let me start by saying the food was not good at all. My wife ordered the Salmon, however they were out and she settled for the half chicken. The chicken was "ok", but not delish. She also ordered the mushroom appetizer, which was horrible and bland. I ordered the clam chowder as my appetizer--which was actually good. I then ordered mussels that were grainy and sandy. My entrée was short rib, which was ok, but again, not delish. The gentleman that waited on us was all over the place, but was nice---but not worthy of 4 start service. On top this, we had a table for two, but the plate setting were not removed and still looked like a table for four. The water person was very good and came consistently. We eventually went to their whiskey bar and had a really great time. We should have eaten their bar bites instead of spending too much money at this restaurant.

I celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday over lunch. We received excellent service, and our food was excellent as well. The only thing we could have benefited from was having a sommelier attend to us but we understood that the sommelier is only available during dinner. Otherwise, we were very happy with our food, the service, the attention we received, and the overall atmosphere.

Kingbird is a nice, elegant, place to have a meal before a Kennedy Center show. It is very convenient. The food is quite good, although a bit pricey. It would be nice if it were a bit more vegetarian-friendly. The service is very professional. The atmosphere is lovely, unless you happen to sit near the door to the kitchen. We will be back.
