Good, interesting food and cocktails, with excellent service and decor.
Food was delicious and perfect portions. Wait staff friendly and helpful. Got us to the concert in time. Will definitely go back.
We went to the Kingbird prior to the a play at the Kennedy Center. The bar, the food, and the service were amazing! We enjoyed elegant drinks and well prepared and served food. The convenient valet parking left me with no parking issues for dinner and for the show. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive - and friendly. Lovely evening!
The food was excellent. The service could have been better. We had to wait 10 minutes for our drinks and then we had to ask a second server. It was not quiet but that is expected in a hotel restaurant. Overall I would certainly go back
Great experience! Service attentive without being obtrusive. We were going to an event at the Kennedy Center; the staff asked what time our show was and handled drinks, appetizers and dinner so that we had adequate time without being rushed. The food was excellent.
We celebrated my birthday at Kingbird and were thrilled with everything. The food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. We highly recommend Kingbird!
My food was very small portion, it was cold and the sauce was very sweet (over the top) and the meat Filet Mion didn’t have salt or any flavor. The two small vegetables that the dish had was row. My husband Martini had ice on it. There was other things that happened but I won’t get long here. However, the manager was very attentive with my complaints and she apologized for the inconvenient several times, and even gave her business card in case we want to come back she would take special care of us. Thumbs up for her. But overall it does not worth your time, energy and specially your money since the food is incredible expensive and incredible small and microwaved.
👎on kids and vegan dining options
We celebrated Valentines a few days late and so pleased we selected here to do so! Everyone was delightful at the Kingbird. I loved the uniforms and the decor. Posh w/o feeling stuffy! And as Crazy as this sounds...Ladies, the bathroom is stunner!!
Appetizer: tuna carpaccio. Husband wouldn’t select this on his own, but we loved it!
Meals: 1/2 chicken (w side salad & edible flowers. Salmon (w side of broccoli)
Dessert: Chocolate torte (ganache w orange) AMAZING!!
Everyone was spot on. The servers were all so accommodating. We’ll be back!!
Outstanding dining experience! My server Shelley was attentive and intuitively addressed my dining needs. Each member of the staff I interacted with was courteous and ensured my dining experience was memorable. Kingbird is definitely a DC dining gem.
Despite having a reservation, we were sat at the table right near the high-traffic kitchen. Once seated, we waited a good while until we were acknowledged by a server. We then requested to move and waited again for anyone to take drink orders. We were never told anything about the menu. Certainly did not feel like a valued customer. Very disappointing, especially given the reputation. Save your money in forego indulging your curiosity about this “establishment” and go to one of the many, much more modern and imaginative restaurants that know how to serve great food and offer stellar service.
Our server was perfectly attentive, giving us space to enjoy our food and time together, but always ensuring that we had everything we needed right when we needed it. The food was outstanding, though the lamb was a tad bit dry which was made up for by the provided mustard that made it a sublime combination. Highly suggest the tuna carpaccio, salmon, and the chocolate torte. Ambiance was especially pleasing with the added view of the Potomac and Art Deco inspired decorations.
yes, but is pricey. more servings of food for the price would make it more worthwhile. Food itself was excellent
They were amazing, they even accepted to serve lunch after it’s time already passed. Many thanks.
The food was good, we had both excellent dishes and just alright dishes. The scallops could have been better. The service started out slow but for being very slow, and sporadic at times, our waiter made up for in quality! I was pretty impressed for overall and our anniversary dinner was a success!
His lamb and my branzino were a bit overcooked. The ratatouille and spaghetti squash had enjoyable flavors.
Moreover, kudos to the staff for handling my husband's forgotten credit card. They stored and promptly returned it when he returned to the restaurant. Thank you very much.
very expensive menu with nothing that interesting on it--somewhat misses the mark--
Pre theatre dinner.
Great place for a delicious meal ahead of a performances the Kennedy Center!
Enjoyed a delicious brunch at Kingbird before a Kennedy Center matinee. Our first time here and the decor, service and food were 5 stars. Would recommend highly.
Very slow service, especially for lunch time. Server was very lax in checking in. Had to wait a long time for check and then had to go find the server to actually run my card. Don’t go here if you are on a deadline.
I was surprised to have such an intimate dinner in a hotel restaurant. It was beautiful. The ambiance was perfect. The food was awesome. Great date night spot
The dinner was excellent. I had the lobster and my companion had the scallops. Service was very personalized.
The service was terrible. They were focused on their pre-theater special crowd so the servers really didn't pay any attention to people who were there to enjoy a normal meal (which is odd as the pre-theater is likely a special of some kind). The food was mediocre and a bad value given the price.
The staff seated us in a booth that had seats at different heights, so some people had the table at a normal height while for others it was too high. The staff brought bread to the table, but there were just two bread plates for a party of five. The waiter ignored me when I signaled to him, so I had to get bread plates from another table. Two members of the party had duck, which required a sharp knife,; again, we had to get the attention of the waiter/busboy and request different knives. At the end of the meal, the waiter asked one person whether he wanted coffee or an after dinner drink, then left. Trying to get the waiter's attention again failed to produce results, so I had to walk to the waiter and ask him why he ignored everybody else. At these prices I expect competent service. The food was underwhelming. Fortunately, Washington has many good restaurants.
The restaurant is generally good.... BUT I called several days ahead of time and asked if they had vegan options (one couple coming with us is vegan), they said yes we do! When we asked for their vegan options today, they said they didn’t have any. Leaving was not an option as we were catching a show at the Kennedy center after. They told us they could figure something out... they brought a “veggie” plate (mostly decorated carrots) and an arugula salad (arugula and salt). They charged $8.00 for each bowl of arugula and $24.00 for each veggie plate. The couple also had to ask that they don’t add butter to the veggies and the waiter seemed confused.
Upsets me that they say yes and then don’t actually have options. Upsets me that in 2020, an upscale restaurant wouldn’t have a vegan option. Upsets me that the carrots costed that much and the salad was terribly put together.
A special treat dinner for before a Kennedy Center show. Jamie, our server, was spot on with her recommendations and the food was delicious.
Although the food is good, the service is not. Slow to take order, slow to refill water glasses, alow to refill wine glasses, and slow to deliver main course. Practically had to trip a waiter who was not ours to get some service. Waitress offered no apologies, seemed to be not focusing on service. Will not go back.
Pretheater meal was good, if it took a very long time to prepare. They made good with it by giving us a round of drinks.
Excellent location. Great spot to jump to Kennedy Center.
Enjoyed every aspect, food, ambiance, great place to take your significant other. Knowledgeable, friendly bartenders at the whiskey bar.
We had a wonderful Anniversary Dinner!
Absolutely fantastic! Everything was just about perfect!
They had a great restaurant week deal! And their location is very convenient to the Kennedy Center, so it's a perfect place to go before a show. Will definitely be back again.
We had a 5:30 reservation for a 7:30 show at the Kennedy Center. We left plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely dinner. It was anything but. It was restaurant week and we felt treated as third class citizens by third class staff. We arrived with our wet coats and no one offered to take them for us. As the seats are wide and rounded (and comfortable) the coats ended up on the floor until we asked for help and someone checked them for us. The meal was excessively rushed. No sooner was one course cleared than a waiter set down the next one. The waitress took our order then disappeared. We had to ask for water and coffee and salt and pepper and lemon, as the food had very little taste, with the exception of the scallops.
The people on either side of us did not order from the restaurant week menu. We were dismayed to see their portions we re three times the size of ours for the same order. A manager brought us a third tiny dessert for our troubles. This treatment is unacceptable on any night at any price point.
Food was fantastic and worth the price. We had a problem with service and had to mention it to the hostess. I am usually very patient and understanding (especially during restaurant week) but when a table that was seated 20 mins after us got their appetizer and drinks before we did it was a red flag. After mentioning the lapse in service, I will say we did get prompt service afterwards but it should not have come to that.
Food was very good. We went on Saturday expecting the brunch but it was Restaurant week with a very limited menu. We were disappointed in not having the full brunch menu however the food was good. The kitchen was slow so it took longer than expected to get each course. We just made it to our Ken Cen matinee.
