There was a bug in my food and they tried to tell me it was asparagus.
For the price I paid the food was not that good.
We had a lovely thanksgiving day brunch but our waitress, Maza, was the true delight of our experience!
ICONIC-The hotel and restaurant is not only historical but exquisitely decorated.
Wonderful venue for a business lunch. Great service, nice menu and beautiful views of the Potomac. It is quiet and a good place for discussions. Convenient to DC and Virginia. I am a repeat customer and will continue to bring guests here. The terrace is very pleasant in the summer and I saw their outdoor winter "igloos" on my last trip and they looked intriguing.
Beautiful, elegant restaurant with exemplary service
Anniversary and pre- theater
Unfortunately the brunch buffet was limited And overpriced and the service was very slow we had to ask for coffee three times before receiving it.
Charming dining room. Food and service was superb!
An easy walk from the Kennedy Center, the setting is comfortable, the service brisk and attentive, and the food is excellent. You'll pay a lot for such a combination of convenience and cuisine, but this is by far the best choice for a pre-concert meal.
Took my mom, who was in from out of town, my partner, and a friend there for a pre-show (Kennedy Center) meal. The waitress was excellent, noting our need to finish by a certain time as well as the dietary restrictions of two our our party members. She offered excellent suggestions and kept the evening fun and casual.
Ideal restaurant if you want to see a show at the adjacent Kennedy Center; if you want bar ambience ask for seating in the front. If you want some quieter ambience ask for the back. Service for the pre-show menu was exceptional.
EXCELLENT location for Kennedy Center event. Food, drink & service quite good for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
I enjoy Kingbird. I find the atmosphere and decorations to be thoughtful, tasteful and nicely done. I think the food and presentation of the food is very thoughtful and creative. LOVE the plating, portion size, and overall presentation of the food. Some of the food is very well executed and delicious. However, sometimes the execution of the food is slightly off - a hair overcooked, or flavor profile that just misses the mark. But overall, I enjoy going to Kingbird, I enjoy sampling the food, and overall I definitely recommend.
We usually stop at Kingbird before going to the Kennedy Center. They are always very accommodating to make sure that we get to the theater on time. One way they do this is is by offering a special complete meal that consists of items from their regular menu. In addition to the food, the service is impressive and friendly. We really enjoy the aged in the restaurant Mahattan that is both good and elegantly served. The Kingbird is not an inexpensive restaurant, but is worth every dollar.
We had an enjoyable experience. Our food was very good and the service was very attentive.
Kingbird is a glorious restaurant, super convenient to the Kennedy Center--in an area where there are very few good places to enjoy a pre-theater meal. We arrived ahead of our 5:45 reservation--about 5:30. We had a performance starting at 7:00 and informed EVERYONE who came to the table of our time line. We ordered from the amazing pre-theater menu, reasonably priced at $56. We were repeatedly assured we had plenty of time to enjoy. This, unfortunately, wasn't the case. The wine, appetizers and main courses arrived relatively promptly. The desserts took for ever. We wound up leaving the dessert uneaten, unable to even enjoy a cup of coffee, and literally had to run to the Kennedy Center to arrive as the lights were dimming. A word of advice: Leave yourself full 2 hours (meaning start dinner at 5:00 or you won't make it! This was a major disappointment. The food is too good to eat fast and the service--while very attentive--just couldn't keep with the pre-theater time line.
Nice ambiance, service a little slow as soon as we were seated. Could have moved a little more quickly.
My first comeback to this place in more than 25 years. Excellent surprise. Good food, nice atmosphere, excellent service. I’ll come back, but sooner than 25 years from now !
Terrible experience. Service was awful and food was dismal. It took two hours to get breakfast actually served and cold food when arrived. We had to ask for water repeatedly, parts of meals missing, no attention to service.
They took good care of two theater goers. The world bank meetings were going on and there were other events in the hotel. But we had a quiet dinner, very good, service was attentive and they showed us out their 'back door' to the Kennedy Center in a timely manner. Would recommend Kingbird as a civilized pre theater dinner. Will be happy to return.
Food was not nearly as good as I expected with not nearly enough vegetables. And cappuchino was truly terrible. Was seated at a table looking at coats and kitchen doors but moved to a booth looking at the river when I requested. The staff were wonderful and seemed like they wanted everyone to have a great experience. Prefer the food (and prices) at campono nearby.
They made this such a special occasion, everyone we met was so lovely and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back.
Good food, pricey given hotel location. Enjoyed the Black Sea Bass.
Food was good, we missed out on one of our entrees so timing was off. Managment corrected the issue and apologized for the mishap. Overall food was delicious!
I chose Kingbird for a Saturday brunch in honor of a close friend who is getting married in a few weeks ( casual bridal shower brunch). The restaurant was very accommodating and let me put balloons and treats at the table that i brought in myself, and even gave us a complimentary dessert for the bride-to-be. The server was very attentive and went the extra mile to provide a nice morning for us. It was not very crowded - we were there for 3 hours and never felt rushed. Overall i am so glad I chose this place for our get-together!
Although the food was really good, the service was awful, therefore almost ruining the occasion.
Had been wanting to try this place for some time as a good dinenr spot before the Kennedy Center. The ambiance was great and the service was fabulous . The food was just OK, though... not fabulous... it came out promptly but was a little cold. Considering the prices, which are a little steep, I had expected better.
Had lunch after concert at Kennedy Center. Eating there is an experience that transcends the meal. Service is impeccable. Prices are exhorbitant but this is for the location, the ambiance and the service. The food is also very good. Would do this again.
Disappointed in the breakfast buffet. Three different servers told us everything on the a la carte menu (which included avocado toast, lobster Benedict, and chia seed pudding) was on the buffet. So obviously we chose the buffet. None of that was to be seen. Only basic plain waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, and fruit and pastries. We felt like it was a bait and switch and not worth the buffet price.
After we finished our appetizer course, we waited for 45 minutes to be served our entrees. Since we had a theater time to meet, we had to skip dessert.
Pre theatre meal. Good food. Great wine and dessert. Downfall was a very rude hostess who didn’t make eye contact nor offer greetings but just stared at her iPad. Her co hostess made the excuse that they were busy; however for a restaurant of this level and price point that is INEXCUSABLE.
waiters were very friendly
Makes me want to go to another restaurant before my KC shoes...if you’re too busy to serve me.
Great place! Excellent food. Staff gets overwhelmed before a large show at Kennedy Center so schedule your dinner with plenty of time to curtain. Two hours prior to showtime will work. Anything less than that and you won’t enjoy the experience. Our waiter got us out right on time but there were plenty of large pauses between courses.
Food was delicious and the server was very attentive.
Wine pour was clearly short. Food was very good, the ambiance was great.
Service here was surprisingly bad. We waited over an hour for our food during a not at all busy time. One of the dishes that came out was the wrong dish. Drinks were not refilled unless we flagged someone down and asked for them to be refilled. It felt like our table was largely forgotten by the wait staff. Very disappointing for such a seemingly nice restaurant.
The service and food were excellent, as were the drinks. It was a little noisy but it seemed to die down after the Kennedy Center performances. Private conversations were not really very private.
Service was incredibly slow despite both the hostess AND the server acknowledging that we had theater tickets. The cocktails, the appetizers, and the entrees all took a shocking amount of time to come out and despite our comments the server gave us a casual “sorry” and nothing changed at all. Also we asked the assistant server as he was cleaning up our table what the interesting butter was that is served with the starter bread and he was very flustered and confused. We then mentioned this to our lead server who laughed (yes laughed) and said “oh he’s new and training”...ummm, well then why is he alone???
Doubtful we will return.
Nice environment before a show at the Kennedy Center
Could not ask for a better dinning experience in D. C. From being greeted, seated, and waited upon, it was a lovely evening. The menu was just the right size and offered enough diversity that everyone was happy. The wine selection is superb as well as the knowledge of the person who took time to describe the various wines to us. Desert was the highlight of the meal - we are all still talking about it.
Great food excellent service! Really enjoyed the Pre-theater menu.
