King Umberto Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We had a wonderful dining experience at King Umberto! The food was excellent, along with a warm and inviting atmosphere. There is a flare of old school charm which is rare to find these days! We were very impressed with the wait staff, who guided us with our food selections and really catered to us as VIPs.
I definitely liked the atmosphere and tasty food. I thought the service was a little slow as we were in a "time frame" to catch a show. I told the waitor that but had to ask again to order and dessert took longer than I'd like. Also, I asked for a vodka sauce on my side of linguini and was told there would be an extra charge which I said OK. I thought it may be like $3 but $9 extra. They didn't even itemize it on the bill and I had to inquire to which they shrugged and said yes, sorry.
Old World atmosphere, gracious maitriD' . Restaurant was crowded for a Thursday Evening and they only had one wonderful waiter attending to all . He was assisted by competent bus boys.
It was perfect for a one time visit as we've tasted better food at similar restaurants .
I was so pleased to celebrate my birthday here. My vegetarian son always enjoys the food as do I.There are always some interesting specials. The entire staff makes you feel welcome. It was a treat to be greeted by Rosario and of course, my granddaughter was delighted by the Happy Birthday dessert. I have been a customer for 15 years and always leave wanting to return.
We were looking for a tradition Southern Italian restaurant, that we hadn’t been to, and we found it! King Umberto’s in Elmont is wonderful! The decor is warm and traditional. The service is friendly and attentive. It has an exceptional wine list. The wine was decantered at the table. It has traditional Italian dishes, as well as a few surprises. We started with fried calamari, which was tender and delicious baked clams. We then had a tri-colored salad which had large shavings of Parmesan and a subtle dressing. My husband had veal parmigiana with a side of escarole, one of my son’s had veal rollatini, I had a special the fresh cavetelli with a duck Ragu. It had portobello mushrooms, pine nuts and cranberries. My other son had a personal pizza. For dessert we had Italian cheesecake and an apple torte. Everything was delicious! We will definitely come here again.
Upon arrival we walked into a barely filled restaurant, however the restaurant did not remain that way for long as the tables filled within minutes and was completely booked. The service was excellent, our server was very jovial and entertaining. The wine selection was fantastic, along with the meal. For dessert, my longtime friend order the tres leche cake, which was far superior to my cheesecake which was also delectable. Overall, it was a memorable experience.
Didn't honor my reservation request for booth seating even though we arrived on time. Given other seating instead. Temperature in restaurant was cold. Waiter seemed to have an attitude although he provided good service. Food not up to standards of previous visits and dining. A bit disappointing but will try again at another time.
Always a solid choice. Foods freshness, taste and quality never fails. Peak dining times someimes makes for cramped and close quarters and the staff generally does a great job navigating the close confines. It is during these periods when service can get a little dicey with dishes not arriving at the same time or getting another bottle of wine delivered with the meal doesn't happen as quickly as during non-peak hours. But if that does occur, they more than make up for it with a dessert ot coffee at the end of the meal. You cannot go wrong having a meal here.
Not only a friendly place, but great food, always, great service, a completely wonderful dining experience. If you join their birthday club, they send you a coupon for a free bottle of champagne, which you can trade in towards a great bottle of wine, enhancing the meal even more.
