About King + Duke

At King and Duke, we showcase locally sourced ingredients through simple, yet focused hearth cooking. Our goal is not to manipulate food, but to accentuate the natural flavors of our products through slower methods of cooking and the smoke of the wood fire. Through this primitive technique, constantly moving and manipulating the live fire, we invest exacting attention to the preparation of each and every dish.

Our managing partner, Ford Fry, named the restaurant after two characters in Huckleberry Finn, “The King” and “The Duke," a pair of grifters who ‘put on airs’ and pretended to be royalty, when in fact they were a couple of hillbillies who lived in the woods. With our slightly mischievous ways ☺, a huge focus on quality, yet a primitive cooking style and down-to earth atmosphere, Chef Fry felt like it was the perfect name for our newest restaurant.

King and Duke is one of our go-to places to take out-of-town guests. The food is always great, the service impeccable and its in a great location. Most recently we enjoyed the covered outdoor patio which was perfect for our group. We were bummed when Nava closed down several years ago, but KD has been a worthy replacement.

We really enjoyed our meal at King + Duke. The food was wonderful. We went after church for Sunday brunch and shared the warm donuts, pimento cheese, and chicken fried chicken. All three were outstanding. Our waitress was so kind and personable and did an excellent job checking on our table. Our last dish took quite a long time to come up. Our waitress handled the situation with such grace and we appreciated her kindness. Will definitely recommend King + Duke to others!

We had a good time celebrating my wife's birthday. The service, from Kiara and friends, was excellent. Started out with cocktails including the excellent vieux carre, hockey sweater,Founders KBS, and Stags Leap. The appetizers, hushpuppies and shrimp, were good. Kiara made sure there was five of each since there was five in our party. Bread was the best ever. We enjoyed our entrees: pork chop, duck, burger, and trout.

Great service, and good food in a good location. There is valet parking that is cheaper than parking on the street, that is a plus.

I liked it ok overall. The food was too heavy/fried. Even the kale salad just had too much cheese all over it. It's tasty in small amounts but ordering a lot of things to try and then all being so rich and heavy, I craved something light and fresh to mix it up. Service and ambiance are wonderful.

Our server, Ronnie, was on his game. Perfectly-timed greeting, delivery of drinks and food, check-ins, drop the check... flawless. The service coordinator, Ryan, is a machine. He kept the host, kitchen and wait staff in perfect step with one another AND visited guests' tables to ensure 100% satisfaction. We are BIG fans.

Exceptional meal. Our waiter - Matt - took great care of us - made excellent recommendations and the food was amazing. From the avocado and crab toast to the Bronzino and pork chop, everything was high quality and flavorful. We were treated to cherry pie with bourbon vanilla ice cream which was a real treat too. We can't wait to go back.

Not cheap; not great but not bad. Food was good but nothing exceptional. Maybe my standards are too high but for the cost/person not a value. Service though was outstanding

Fish very good. Chicken dish mediocre. Kale salad tough and not very flavorful .Cocktails with oddly paired ingredients that just didn't work. Overall a disappointing and expensive experience. Our waiter was attentive but not genuine.
You just can't get past that Buckhead vibe.
I will say that it was lovely to sit outside right by some flowers.
But unfortunately I wouldn't even return for drinks.

Usually when we come here, everything is amazing, however that wasn't the case this time. Everyone said their food was great except mine. I got the swordfish and it was burnt. However the service made up for the food.

The past several visits have been fantastic. However, several meals were warm, not hot this visit as was the coffee and espresso with dessert. The staff was super helpful and apologetic, comping one meal. Just not what you'd expect from a $100+ per person meal.

The food was not good. It was super salty and had that over processed taste. Like trying to use spices to cover something up... Barely ate the food. The bread service was good though! Decent wine list also. They have a lovely patio for cocktails. Chops or even Season's 52 would be a better choice.

this was the 2nd time we have been and it was equally unimpressive. Both times, even with reservations, we had to wait. This time 45 minutes. A round of drinks was comp'd by the staff. Service and appetizers were fine, but the entrée (trout) was mushy and plating was unappealing. Won't be back.

We enjoyed our dinner and drinks. Started the meal with the pimento cheese hush puppies and georgia shrimp. Hush puppies were good but the shrimp was amazing! Horse neck cocktail was very tasty. We ordered the chicken and trout for dinner. Both were good. Wait staff was awesome- attentive without being intrusive and made great suggestions for ordering since this was our first visit. Our waiter even brought us a complimentary champagne toast for the birthday girl which was a nice touch!

Fantastic experience overall - service was very attentive, food was yummy (everything we had was over the top delicious - burger, pork chop, chicken and veggies, pimento cheese hushpuppies, fried cherry pie with bourbon ice cream, chocolate tart!!). consistently superior dining experiences at King & Duke ( a rarity for Atlanta restaurants) from staff and quality of food preparation from a simple, yet diverse menu keeps us coming back again and again. Ford Fry and EJ Hodkinson, et. al., at their best.

Our experience was very poor. Service was extremely bad. 30 minute wait after being seated to order a drink--we had to go find or server in order to be able to order--waited another hour to order our meal, had to wait over 1.5 hours after that for our food. When the food arrived, my meal (pork) was very undercooked (rare). We were given free drinks for our wait, but no compensation for inedible main course.

This was our third visit to King + Duke - disappointing compared to the first two, which were excellent. We got off to a displeasing start when, despite the restaurant not being at all full, we were shown to the table for two up on the second level nearest the restrooms. In retrospect, I should have protested. The upper level seating is rather dismal, even putting aside the restroom view. It feels isolated and is dimly lit, and utterly lacks the charm of the main floor dining room. Our server was very nice and did an excellent job, a bright spot in our otherwise lackluster experience. As appetizers, we ordered roasted shrimp and an heirloom tomato salad. The shrimp were nicely flavorful, but the dish contained only four tiny shrimps, along with a large hunk of toasted bread. Admittedly, the bread and sauce were tasty. The salad was fine but unremarkable. We both ordered hamburgers as entrée - my husband had one on a prior visit and remembered it being very good. He asked for them to be cooked medium well. They came out medium, at best, more toward the medium rare side. I ate mine that way and it was very good, but he does not abide pink hamburger and had to send it back. A side dish of beets and carrots with harissa and whipped feta tasted good, but the vegetables were overcooked and thus sort of hard. Based on the prior two experiences, I am willing to conclude that King + Duke was having an off night and give it another shot, but this visit left much to be desired.

We decided to visit King and Duke to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we arrived, the attentive staff took care of everything from keeping our drinks filled to making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. The food was superb and I highly recommend trying the pimento cheese hush puppies appetizer. We even received an anniversary card signed by the entire staff. We definitely plan to go back next time we visit Atlanta.
