About King + Duke
At King and Duke, we showcase locally sourced ingredients through simple, yet focused hearth cooking. Our goal is not to manipulate food, but to accentuate the natural flavors of our products through slower methods of cooking and the smoke of the wood fire. Through this primitive technique, constantly moving and manipulating the live fire, we invest exacting attention to the preparation of each and every dish.
Our managing partner, Ford Fry, named the restaurant after two characters in Huckleberry Finn, “The King” and “The Duke," a pair of grifters who ‘put on airs’ and pretended to be royalty, when in fact they were a couple of hillbillies who lived in the woods. With our slightly mischievous ways ☺, a huge focus on quality, yet a primitive cooking style and down-to earth atmosphere, Chef Fry felt like it was the perfect name for our newest restaurant.

King + Duke Ratings and Reviews
King & Duke was amazing as always. My boyfriend and I took my mom and sister for the first time and they were both very impressed. The pimento cheese hush puppies are my all time favorite food and they are always perfect. I had the lobster roll and my boyfriend had the lobster avocado toast and both were fantastic. I love going to King & Duke and the food always keeps me going back.
First time dining at King + Duke, but definitely will go back. Though the menu was not 'extensive' in terms of number of choices, it nonetheless offered an ample selection. Enjoyed the special 'tweaks' they use to differentiate the dishes (a la 'punched' fingerling potatoes). Brian was a very professional/knowledgeable server who guided us through our dining experience. Carpe Diem!
Rockin. Second time to visit. Much improved from first visit. Went back on Monday morning and told all my coworkers they need to go and check this out--very impressive. I couldn't pick something from the menu--EVERYTHING was appealing. Energetic, good vibe, attentive service, outstanding food.
After all the hype, I really wanted to like this place, but at $90 for a steak for 2, I expect a lot.
It was tender, as a 28 aged ribeye should be, but It had very little seasoning and the temperature was tepid. I like my food to be served hot, especially if its coming off a wood fired grill.
The salad was over dressed, and the side of "punched" potatoes were forgetful, again under seasoned and semi-warm.
Also, is it asking too much to have table cloths when the bill is north of $200 for 2 people?
Vinyl, sticky topped tables don't cut it for me.
One good note, the sommelier was well informed and steered my to a reasonable and fleshy Bordeaux.
I'll match my "Bon Appétit"(July 2003) Cowboy rib eye with grilled potato and watercress salad, any day of the week against King + Duke.
For a better steak, more elegant setting and a better value, I'm going back to Marcel's or Canoe,
both a better choice in every category, in my opinion.
While I do love King and Duke, every time I order the doughnuts or the cinnamon rolls they come out so cold!
The cocktails are great and the steak and eggs for brunch is just ..okay. My steak was a tad tough and under seasoned.
I originally fell in love with their BLT sandwich for brunch. Since they do not have it anymore, I wouldn't put this at the top of my brunch list.
Overall, pretty nice spot. I love the decor and the vibe.
I plan to come back again but for dinner.
The popovers are fantastic. . .addictive! While waiting on our family, we enjoyed the cheese board - three well-chosen cheeses with house-made preserves and butter crackers. Each of us was well pleased with our choice of entrees, all prepared to perfection with excellent accompaniments. We ordered a side to share, but found all our entrees were more than sufficient. Of course we saved room for desserts. . .after all, we were celebrating a birthday. . .and we found each of our selections to be the perfect ending to our meal. . .the toasted marshmallow ice cream, the sticky toffee pudding, strawberry tres leches, and s'more tart! Pure happiness!
Went here on "Atlanta Eats" recommendation. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. Table service was excellent. Waitress, water person, buss person each answered questions about the ingredients and preparation of the food. Impressive and important to us. The Peaches+Burrata was excellent. The peaches tasted like in-season peaches. The Bay of Fundy Salmon came close to the salmon I had in Alaska. The sirloin was perfectly grilled. The beets and carrots were crisp and sweet. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was the icing on the cake. We would recommend "King and Duke" for anyone who likes quality service and excellent food. Oh, yes, the Little Scarlet and Brooklyn Angel drinks were made perfectly.
Friday was a special occasion and we picked just the right place to celebrate. The atmosphere was vibrant and at the same time comfortable and relaxing. When you first walk in you get the slight aroma of the wood fire ovens. In no time at all the food became the center of the evening as the staff quickly began serving us our drinks and appetizers. Everything was so fresh from appetizers to desserts, with each course came another favorite. Chef EJ Hodgkinson balances the favors and texture of the food. Elana took wonderful care of us. I fell in love with the Pimento hushpuppies and Peaches + Burrata salad. We can hardly wait to return. Elana definitely made us feel right at home. By the end of the evening we felt like old friends. The food was fantastic, from Appetizers to Desert. Each of us had our favorites.
The fried black rice in squid ink and the shrimp a la plancha are the boldest, most flavorful and underrated dishes on the menu. I love them. The smores chocolate ganache cake with toasted marshmallows and marshmallow ice cream was so rich, I almost couldn't eat the whole thing. Almost. Service is also spectacular. I'm not a huge wine drinker, but my date seemed to think the wine list was pretty nice.
My husband and I love this place. Every time we go the food is consistently delicious, the service is excellent, the drinks are amazing, and the experience is wonderful. My husband feels as though they have the best burger in Atlanta by far. Overall, an excellent dining experience.
I work nearby and have gone here several times for the burger. It is normally a great burger. It is a $16-18 burger, so it better be divine, right? On this night it fell short, and tasted like a very ordinary burger that we paid 3 times the price for. I may not have the burger there again. I had a friend from California with me who thought the fish was just okay, and overpriced - even by California standards for farmed fish.
Fantastic find for food and drink. We simply love this restaurant every time we visit Atlanta. You have to try the freshmade bread pudding rolls (to die for!). Great burgers and a very creative menu. Great grill for meat and seafood dishes. Service is excellent as well. Very relaxing ambiance. Highly recommend in Buckhead area.
I ordered the special fish which was described as Wahoo fish that is like swordfish. And my guest ordered the Salmon dish. Both fish were way over done. For desert we ordered the Strawberry Tres Leches Cake with vanilla cream and the S'more Tart with marshmallow ice cream and salted caramel.
The food was great. Not too many options for vegetarians which would be nice in the future but I was able to make it work and what I did eat was amazing. The server did seem very rushed and not personable. He did a good job of explaining the menu and options but would quickly walk away once done and just seemed in a hurry to get away from our table. Overall loved the food and drinks, would've liked a more personable server.
We had our after wedding dinner here at K+D back in October 2015 and we love coming back to see what's new on the menu. Everything on the menu is priced well and everything you get is well worth every dollar.
Tonight we arrived early for a cocktail at he outside bar and shared the Georgia Shrimp appetizer paired with a Malbec and Pinot Noir. We then went to our table for dinner and shared he King Steak dinner and my husband LOVED the two bone marrow, garlic and grilled toast. We added the crispy brocolli and it was delicious. Our sever was outstanding and dinner superb.
Can't wait to come again. We will do the Chef's table for two again soon!
Food was great as was the setting.
The manager came over unprovoked to let us know that our main course was delayed and brought several different apps for us to try and more importantly hold us over. Delays happen and the manager made the best of it with real customer service.
I took my partner to King +Duke for his birthday. We started with the Beef Tartare appetizer. The meet was good, but there was too much oil covering the meet. Our entrees were fantastic. I had the Georgia Mountain Trout, and he had the grilled pork chops. Our French chardonnay was reasonably priced by the bottle, and our server was fantastic.
