I have eaten at Kindred Fare a few times and each time the experience has been great. The cocktail menu is unique and every hand crafter cocktail I have tried has been delicious. The food menu is varied and includes many gluten free options. Recently, we had the calamari and chick pea appetizer which was the best calamari I have ever had. The service is always good and the fried chicken is to die for - with deep honey flavor in every bite. I look forward to my next visit to Kindred Fare.
The food was very good when we last visited. On our second visit, it was even better! We had 2 fish entrees with creative and tasty toppings. Service is excellent!
We have been to Kindred Fare many times and never have a less than awesome experience. Classic & Signature cocktails for happy hour are imaginative and the tastiest in Upstate NY. Great dining options: excellent salads, flat breads, pasta, burgers, entrees, & the fries are the best we've ever had. We visit from Syracuse region whenever we get a chance.
First time customers. Well prepared, fresh food. Had the calamari appetizer and kale salad. Both were excellent. Fried chicken entree was very good - spicy! Service was fast and friendly but we didn't feel rushed. We went prior to a concert at Smith Opera house which is 5 minutes away. Although we live more than an hour away we'll be returning.
We were seated outside and waited about 15 minutes until someone (not even our waitress) even acknowledged us. That is unheard of where we live. Good restaurants acknowledge your presence, even just to say hello and advise they will be with you shortly. Our waitress never even apologized, just said she was busy pouring wines for others. Once our food came, it was good. But the initial service was very poor. We noticed that the other tables near us received the same delayed service.
The ambiance is fantastic, decor is updated and wonderful to look at, although it was a little bit cold inside we quickly acclimated. Our server was fantastic! Just the right amount of attentiveness. The best part of the meal however was the green salad. It was delicious, fresh and unique. I ate every bit of it. We ordered an additional appetizer which was the meatball flat bread. It was average. We also ordered the pork special which was served with cold potato salad and asparagus. The pork was not great. It didn’t have a lot of flavor and we questioned whether it was cooked enough. The potato salad was over salted and didn’t have very dynamic flavor. Very one dimensional leaning toward a mustardy flavor. And we also questioned the choice of a cold potato salad instead of a warm mashed potato or other warm potato side dish. The asparagus was fine, nothing special to overcome the rest of the plate, however.
I would come back and try again, however I’m not sure I’d be able to get my husband back!!
Out standing . Had the scallops and they melted in your mouth .
Wonderful fresh menu with excellent variety to please anyone. Cheerful and knowledgeable service. Extensive wine list but no corkage fees if you bring your own! High value fixed price option on Mondays. Highly recommend!
I made a point to come back here after finding this gem last fall. The place has a fun vibe and they serve creative and delicious dishes. The service was friendly and attentive. A great place to have dinner after a day in the finger lakes or Geneva.
The food here is simply the best. Fine food in a casual setting. The fried chicken is not to be missed as well as the beet salad with fried goat cheese. The salad is large enough to share. They offer either a four piece or 2 piece of serving of fried chicken. I suggest ordering the four piece-that way you can select what parts you want and take the rest home or eat it all! Cocktails are generous.
We were thrilled with the fast service and quality of our food. My fiancé eats larger portions than I do, and we were initially concerned that his wouldn’t be enough to feed him but our serving sizes were perfect. Excellent meal- we’re already referring our family and friends there!
Wonderful gathering place with friends!
Great service & food!
Trendy. Solid choice.
The menu was simple and modern. The food had local and unusual ingredients which were delicious! The main course came out really hot (temperature) which is not that common to find. We really enjoyed our special occasion meal!
Incredible service and incredible food. Great atmosphere
Family get together. Many from across USA
My wife and I split time between Manhattan and Rochester , this is by far her new favorite place . She’s 8 months pregnant, and has been super picky about food. I’m pretty sure she ordered one of everything and hasn’t shut up about the place since. The waitress was super polite and knowledgeable, the atmosphere wasn’t too hipster-ish, and the food was epic. I always make fun of people for taking photos of food and not just enjoying it, and I caught myself taking photos of the meal. All in all we can’t wait to go back.
Calamari was tender and crisp! Loved the Green Salad!!
I always enjoy Kindred fare but a few things are worth mentioning. First of all the service was great. Prompt but not too intrusive. There are a few food issues. Pairing fresh asparagus with octopus I thought was bizarre. I had the chicken dish with mashed potatoes and gravy. The chicken could have been much more tender and the gravy not so overwhelming. Maybe on the side. The dessert was great rhubarb and raspberry cobbler.
My wife and I had a long day of traveling and sightseeing. Decided to go to Kindred Fare based on recurring recommendation all day long every time we asked for a good place to eat.
Decided to not think about the menu choices and simply go with the five course chef's choice menu with wine pairings. We l love doing this at the NYC area restaurants we frequent.
In a word: amazing. Five delicious near full size courses, expertly paired with wine. From the salad to the dessert, everything was excellent. Not a missed note and several treats. And very reasonable for this kind of option. I'd put Kindred Fare up against any of my usual favorites any day.
Good atmosphere, good and friendly service, and the food was excellent. Dining experience was very positive.
Don’t be put off by the strip mall location - it is light and airy inside, with lots of natural wood finishes. Great space for groups, but soft enough (votives on the table) to feel like dining there can be a special night)
Rabbit Pot Pie - crust as light as air, rabbit infused with flavor, and has carrots in the mix so you can tell yourself you’re eating healthy!
Potato Leek soup - sublime, best I’ve ever had and that includes French restaurants in Montreal.
Lemon cake - luscious and light cake, perfect for ending a big meal.
We were less enthusiastic about my husband’s duck dish, a breast with brown rice, standard tasting duck sauce, too much like a suburban Chinese restaurant rendition, served in a bowl. But maybe it’s a dish made to appeal to younger customers (we are middle aged).
Service - everyone was friendly and helpful. We will definitely return when in the area.
Service so so. They messed up order and had to wait a while for food. Limited menu. A bit disappointing.
Excellent service! Very good food. Overall, very happy!
Awesome Mother’s Day experience
Great place. Great food. We were only disappointed that there weren’t any brunch options for Mother’s Day. So we ended up branching elsewhere. But the food we had a kindred fare this time as light appetizers and in the past as dinner was delicious.
Thank you to our waitress Jackie for being attentive to my mother's needs and your cheery smile and kindness was great! Food - out of this world and I loved the atmosphere. I will return for date night with my husband Chris and special occasions .....
We had been staying the week at Yale Manor for our honeymoon (Katherine of Yale Manor) suggested we come here to eat. We stopped in our first night, fell in love with the food and HAD to come back the next 2 nights and even take the meat board back home with us since I wouldn’t be able to drive 4 hours back the 4th day just for dinner. If you were open for lunch we definitely would have been there on day 4! There wasn’t one item we thought was terrible or mediocre (we had 12 of the items) hats off to the Chef and kitchen crew.
I could only share 4 photos: here is more............We had been staying the week at Yale Manor for our honeymoon (Katherine of Yale Manor) suggested we come here to eat. Kindred Fare is a favorite. Server this time was not up to the standard we’ve come to expect.
Spent 300 on dinner and 50 at the bar. Food was just ok. My wife’s rib eye was well done instead of medium, the service was slow (given it was a busy night) so we didn’t bother asking for a new one. The goat cheese balls and some parts of charcuterie plate were tasty. But all in all for the money spent doubtful I would return for a mediocre experience.
The most amazing chefs table dinner and wine pairing! Will definitely be back!
We can’t wait to return. This was our first visit and we loved it. We had this delicious potato leek soup and some amazing corn meal encrusted fried chicken that was tender, juicy, a little bit sweet and a little bit spicy. Mmmmm. Our waiter was great too.
Wonderful food and great atmosphere. We loved everything we ate and we got a number of items to share/ worked out perfect we will be back
Crab Cake was amazing and the fresh cut fries are always a winner. Great attentive service- greeted by everyone there. The counter seating was a bit snug though.
Food was amazing. Server was even better. Hostess was not.
Kindred Fare came through again with outstanding food and imaginative preparation. The service (Trish) was excellent - very helpful, but not intrusive. The wine selection was top rate. We enjoyed the cheese plate (a great variety of unusual local cheese with lots of bread/crackers) and the beet salad for appetizers. One of the specials was halibut, which I always seek out, and it was expertly prepared. My wife had the duck, which she also enjoyed. Overall it was a great dinner.
Everything we had - calamari appetizer, green salad and shrimp stir fry - was fresh and very flavorful! I wish we lived closer so that we could enjoy this restaurant more often!
