Kindee Thai Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Kindee is a neighborhood Thai place that has moved up and down in our experience, and lately it has been up. Very efficient service, fresh ingredients, well prepared, quick service at lunchtime. Sometimes if there is a matinee at the Guthrie Theater across the street is is packed, other times it is quiet. I judged this rating on food a bit lower because they tend to use a bit too much oil for my tastes on noodle dishes, but their soups are excellent, as are their spring rolls... those are NOT too greasy at all, incredibly light.
We went here before a play at the Guthrie and the food was outstanding. The wait staff were very friendly, sometimes a little hard to find, but they were very helpful and accommodating. We did specifically go for a Mango sticky rice dessert, which they just took off the menu! PLEASE BRING BACK THE MANGO STICKY RICE we will definitely go back.
I like Kind a lot. It's a great place to dine pre-Guthrie or 10,000 Things. The food is both delicious and attractively presented, the service is outstanding (even during a full pre-theatre crowd), the prices are quite reasonable, and it's never too noisy to have an actual conversation.
Kindee Thai is a regular pre-Guthrie performance dinner spot for us. It was very busy on the Sunday night we were there, but thanks to our Open Table reservations there was immediate seating. The appetizers are always excellent. It's possible to "spice up" your entree on a scale from 1 to 5. The spicy entrees are clearly marked. The wine selection is small, but adequate. Serving staff is always knowledgeable about the nuances of menu items.
We had an early dinner reservation. Only one waitress was on duty and she seemed busy even at 4:45, but she handled things well. My wife had the vegetable stir-fry and I had the duck and noodle soup (I forget the Thai name) and both were tasty and satisfying. Very nice presentation, and I didn't have to ask for chopsticks. The house red wine was more than acceptable. This is a well-run restaurant with great food and perfect for an evening at the Guthrie.
My partner and I absolutely loved our meal at Kindee! We were there on a date to the Guthrie and stopped at Kindee before our show. I got the tofu pad thai and my partner got a curry with duck. The tofu was amazingly fried and delicious, and the curry was surprisingly sweet and spicy. I found that the natural lighting and interesting overhead lighting and seating completed the atmosphere. I would make this a regular restaurant in our rotation!
We chose this restaurant based on it's location across from the Guthrie and the fact that we enjoy Asian food. We were planning on attending a play after dinner. We arrived on time and right after a couple with no reservations. They were given a table by the window which we had asked to reserve. We were offered a table crowded in behind a party of 10 guests. I needed to make a fuss before finally being seated in a quieter area. Once we were seated, we received very prompt, friendly service but were not offered any advise regarding the menu. We chose an excellent fried egg roll which came immediately. Then we ordered a vegetable stir fry with added chicken and a honey chicken main course. Both were bland and extremely skimpy. We noticed the noodle dishes served at other tables were much more generous. Our portions were smaller than some children's menu items I have seen in other restaurants. We were not offered any dessert choices and did not notice anyone else eating any dessert so even though we were still hungry, we skipped dessert. The atmosphere is cozy here and the waiter took our order with a pleasant demeanor but was totally disinterested in making sure we were pleased with the food. We would not return to this restaurant even though it is very convenient to the theater. If for some reason we must go back here we would definitely order a noodle dish so we had some food to eat.
Wonderful server/service and food. After watching the production of Romeo and Juliet across the street, I took three 15-year-olds to eat a type of food two of them had never had before...and they all LOVED it!!! It was made even better by having a friendly and attentive server!
I took a group of 13 for my best friend's birthday party. It was A) more than I expected, B) a number of us were late. On top of that, we had several people with dietary restrictions and a lot of demanding questions. Kindee was super on top of it all night. Food came out quick for the number of people. Service was great. They went above and beyond even though we were being obnoxious. Will definitely be back.
Food was okay. Service was okay. Convenient to the Guthrie. Condition of the place was bad. Chairs had dinged up all the walls and there was no attempt to correct that since we were there the first time. Chairs made a lot of noise when moved so obviously the owners made no attempt to put something on the chairs to avoid the noise. The towel dispenser had been torn off the wall in the men's restroom and no apparent attempt to fix it. They charged $.25 for a little bit of extra sauce. The condition of the building and the small ding for the sauce are an indication of a restaurant in trouble. We will not return. It would be a great location for a well run restaurant.
The flavor was tasty, but they were very chintzy on the vegetables. For a veggie chicken stir fry my husband and I got about three littles pieces of broccoli, two pea pods, a few sliced carrots and mushrooms and a huge amount of onions. Looked like a cost cutting measure. We had to eat when we got home.
We made a reservation and were late because of traffic, but had no problems being seated immediately. The waiter made good suggestions to members of our party who had not been there before. Spring rolls were delicious and food was delivered with very little wait time. Wait staff was attentive, but not overbearing. It was an enjoyable meal with friends.
We had a nice, casual meal on a warm summer night on their sidewalk seating area. The service and food were fine. The only disappointment was that they were "out" of both the fresh and fried spring rolls ( we were there Sunday at 7PM ). The server said they only make so many and when they are gone, they are gone. Too bad for us as we had come a long way to enjoy them.
Horrible. Two people in our group ordered apps and entree. Others ordered apps only while others ordered entrees only . Some got their entrees at the same time as others got apps. Some entrees were delivered after the apps were finished. When we all were finished it took 30 minutes to get our bill.
Everything was fine except that we got a note from Open Table that we were a no-show for the reservation. We responded that we indeed were there. Subsequent note from Open Table was that they'd worked it out with the restaurant. However, I still don't think we were credited for the 100 points we should have been.
My husband and I love kindee and go there frequently prior to seeing shows at the Guthrie. We esp like the chicken satay, tempura fried beans and sweet potatoes, papaya salad and pad Thai. They used to have a heavenly breaded shrimp appetizer w plum sauce that I dearly wish they would bring back! Wait staff is polite and efficient, food arrives fairly quickly. One time we ordered something to be picked up after the show. There was a mix up in the order when we returned, and they bent over backwards to correct it, cooking a fresh one. For us to take home. Wonderful place.
Went here for a birthday and the staff was very patient and attentive. My only complaint was that it was noisy, especially with the chairs scraping against the floor and "live" room, so voices carried. However, my family of 4 still enjoyed conversation and had plenty of room for ourselves. The food was incredible and each of us tried the others' food! This is also a great location but isn't exorbitantly priced like many of the other restaurants in the area. I will definitely go back with family and friends!
