When we go to a place like Kincaid’s, we kind of expect to be doted on. Our server was very slow to come by and only came by infrequently. My daughter ordered a medium rare steak, thinking it safe to order that way at a steak house. It was medium. The mashed potatoes were the highlight for all of us but that was it. The molten chocolate cake was a strange consistency. We will not be returning to spend that kind of money for mediocre food and service.

Unfortunately we had a less than stellar experience. Our chicken was dry, shrimp was overcooked, prime rib (ordered rare) was well done.

We visited Kincaid’sE in Downtown St Paul. The area where Kincaid’s is located is surrounded by buildings that ooze character and charm. However, on a quiet Saturday evening there were an inordinate number of people who seemed to be unhoused, mentally ill, or people looking to prey on the vulnerable. Maybe that is less noticeable when there are large events going on downtown, which was not Kincaid's fault. Just the same, people need to know what the vibe is like. We were greeted and seated by the very professional staff. We had thought about sitting on the small patio outside on a beautiful summer evening, due to the aforementioned street vibe and the remote chance of rain we chose to sit inside. Service was impeccable throughout our time at Kincaid’s. After some back and forth with our server, and perusing the menu we ordered food. The noise level inside the dining area was normal and tolerable even though we were seated next to a table with several young children. When our salads arrived mine was a swimming pool of dressing. I normally request the dressing on the side but had not thought to do that. My bad. Our entrees arrived in good time. Mine had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp as the top of the pasta had begun to dry and change color as compared to the pasta and sauce beneath the top layer. There were breaded shrimp on top of the pasta that were definitely hot just out of the fryer. So perhaps the pasta was plated too early and waiting for the shrimp. The flavor of the pasta was good, but the flavor of the shrimp was just off, as though the fryer oil was old or just a mixture of all the other items being fried. Overall the experience was not terrible, yet far below what I had hoped for.

We dined at the St Paul location on 7/5/2025. The service was excellent. We had a coconut shrimp appetizer. It was hot and crunchy with a delightful dipping sauce. We ordered the 3 course meal for $49. The clam chowder was very good. The Caesar salad was large. However, it was underdressed and therefore had no taste. The Parmesan crusted walleye was very good. Mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. The prime rib ordered med rare arrived more medium which the manager saw and immediately replaced with a more desirable temp. It was tender and flavorful. The dessert course was molten lava cake. It was a disaster! The top half was okay but the bottom inch of it was like a rubbery congealed hockey puck! I brought this to the attention of the server and he took off $5.00 for one as the other one was complimentary for my wife's birthday/anniversary. No excuse to serve a horrible dessert like that. Unfortunately, the website does not offer a place to offer feedback.

Kincaid’s is a special place for our family. Whether it’s a casual lunch or a formal dinner we can always count on Kincaid’s to deliver just what we need. They are great with the kids but still maintain a formal atmosphere that is simultaneously comfortable. We dine here often and look forward to doing so again, soon!

This was the second time recently we have had a subpar experience at the St. Paul Kincaids. The first we brushed off as they were slammed and the waiter just didn’t have a chance to get back to our table to order our apps so we left after drinks. Our recent experience our table was in kind of limbo. It took 15 minutes for our waiter to come to our table and that was only because the host noticed and had to go tell them. Kudos to the host she provided the best service of the whole night. We were willing to let that go, we ordered all our apps, salad, mains and drinks once the waiter came. I was thinking this would be effective, but our waiter struggled to have things appear in a timely fashion for a night that wasn’t busy. Prime example after salad our waiter grabbed the plate and said entrees will be right out. It was 10-15 minutes later. Other items to note my water glass was empty for a solid 10+ minutes and I had to eventually ask for a refill. While we enjoy Kincaids I think we will stick to the Bloomington location next time.

Got seated at sour reservation time. Great menu both food and wine list. Service was good, and we were out for our show in plenty of time. Just a bit on the pricey side.
