The food, service, space, and views were all amazing.
Our server Sara recommended the lamb with truffles and chimichurri that was perfect in every way. We watched the sun set through the huge windows as we enjoyed our meal. Our visit was a highlight of our vacation. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a special evening in Duck.
We had reserved Kimball's for a special birthday dinner. Unfortunately though the dining room was pleasant and open to sound views the level of fine dinning was compromised. Waiter checked on our meal while holding a pile of dirty plates. Waiter carried out martinis spilling them as he rushed through the dining room. However the food was very good. The She-crab soup was delicious and the salad fresh with delicate croutons that absorbed the sweet and tart dressing. The duck breast was prepared rare as requested, but the skin was not crispy and begging to be trimmed. The squid ink pasta was undercooked but the shrimp and lobster topping for the dish was generous and delicious.
The wine list is in disarray. My first two requests could not be found. Third selection was chosen solely because it was available. It was not good. Other than the wine, it was an excellent meal and evening.
The finest restaurant in the outer banks of NC
We started visiting Kimball’s last year when we were on the Outer Banks for vacation. The food was amazing as were the service and the views. We came here for our 25th anniversary dinner and they definitely lived up to or even exceeded expectations. The staff were exceptional, the waiter knew the menu well and helped walk us through options. The food was out of this world. I’ve never had scallops as perfectly prepared as at this restaurant. We splurged and ordered a dessert, a spin off of tiramisu. Amazing, though I probably should have stopped before I did! The staff and chef made it a night to remember and we got the opportunity to watch sunset between dinner and dessert. What a wonderful view. Highly recommended!
The waitress brought the wrong drink and made a face when we told her. When we asked for a few minutes more before ordering she made face and stormed off. As we sat and chatted after dinner she interrupted us and asked for the silverware so the dishwasher could go home. There was still a table of 6 and people at the bar. What was the urgency? The waitress ruined our evening
Outstanding view of the sound with panoramic windows. The food was outstanding, although the service was less than I would have expected for the price of this restaurant. If you want a top notch dinner at the beach, however, this place will not disappoint.
Incredible food and experience. Would go back 100 times over!
Great waitress! Fabulous food and view. I had a great birthday dinner.
We have visited Kimball’s a number of times over the last ten years for special occasion dinners. We are locals and have appreciated the inventiveness and upscale nature of your meals. Unfortunately you did not deliver this time. We had had dinner Friday night at 9. The food was good but not great. The three she crab soups were lukewarm. My daughters foie gras appetizer was very good. The star of the night was her duck with mushrooms sauce. My Wagyu burger was a good burger, but not worth $38. Nothing really special. The sauce on it was overpowering and overpowered the beef. Lobster tail on Kale salad was good and well cooked but also not hot and very small.
Everything took longer than expected especially the dessert. But they were good. Service was OK, but the server seemed tired.
When the maitre de asked us how things were after the appetizer, we told him the soup was not hot and he said OK but did not offer to do anything to fix it. We knew we might as well not make complaints.
All in all, a three star meal, but not what I expected for a nearly $ 500 meal with tip. The saving grace was it is my daughters favorite restaurant and her meal was outstanding.
One more suggestion- If you are not going to give 9 PM guests the same dining experience as earlier guests, consider closing earlier. We got the distinct impression we were keeping everybody up.
Our service was very subpar. Waiter was not friendly and seemed irritated to be working. Not something you’d expect from a restaurant like this.
We ordered a Stag’s Leap Artemis 2014 but were presented with the 2016 and told that it would be the same price even though it’s a lesser quality bottle. I have never had this sort of experience before and may never return.
Food was excellent. View was excellent. Drinks from bar were disappointing, however. We will definitely return for dinner -- although we would skip the cocktails.
Wonderful food (prosciutto wrapped chicken), appropriately attentive service, good drinks. Great experience!
Kimball’s Kitchen is a short walk from the lovely Sanderling Inn. The view, food and service were amazing!
The food was amazing. The service was extremely slow and spotty
Wonderful dining experience! Our server, Kyle, was very attentive even though he was busy with a full restaurant last evening. Beautiful views, delicious food and a fantastic experience! Tomato & barrata salad was divine, as were our main entrees. We will be back in future vacations at OBX!!
Our server Kyle was amazing. Incredible food. Awesome sunset. Great experience!
Great service great food!
Terrific experience all around! Food, service, and ambiance were all outstanding.
Has not maintained the same level of overall quality since its days as the Left Bank. Food was ok, not great and service was similar. Hostess disregarded a reservation seating request made over 5 months ago and sat us at the worst table in the dining room.
Disappointing that this dining option has not consistently filled the need for an upscale dining option in Duck/Sanderling since the legendary Elizabeth’s closed years ago. As the Sanderling Resort’s signature restaurant, this should be a better experience.
Excellent service. Excellent food. Convenient for our stay at Sanderling Inn
Unfortunately the quality of the experience at Kimball’s Kitchen is declining. On a recent visit our table of four, was served incorrect drinks, the food was served cold and the table was surrounded by fly’s.
After annually coming for 10 years, I’m not sure our group will returning.
Everything was very good. I thought the steak was high quality but a bit over salted. Sides were good, especially the asparagus which was simply prepared and very fresh.
We were on vacation with family in OBX. It was our date night out away from the family and worth every penny. The view of the sound was brilliant, service was quick, impeccable and the staff overall were beyond friendly. Most of all dinner was an incredible culinary experience. The complimentary amuse bouche was perfect and the most amazing start to our experience. Each course was a magical moment that we will never forget. Thank you Kimball's for the perfect dinner!!!! We would absolutely come back when in OBX next.
Was a wonderful experience
The food and ambiance was very good to outstanding although, unfortunately, we did not experience good service with our waiter. He took forever to get us water and wine. He also failed to clean our table, leaving mushrooms on our table while we had our dinner drinks. Needless to say, it was not very appetizing staring at leftovers on the table while having a nightcap. Lastly, he was the least friendly waiter we ever had at Kimball's.
A Wednesday summer night, restaurant busy but not over crowded. Food was very good (steaks and seafood) but service was slow. Had to remind server about ordered items. Restaurant has an open kitchen, usually fine (we’ve eaten here a number of times in the past) , but this night was so cloudy with smoke that staff was commenting about it. We were happy not to be sitting in the back of the restaurant! The ambiance of the restaurant and its beautiful bay and sunset views suggest a romantic and intimate venue, however the high noise level diminishes that effect. We will still go back for the food and sunsets!
Sommelier was very helpful and friendly.
We had flies swarming our table throughout dinner
One of our favorite vacation eating spots!
Was a super dinner food was great and Robert our server was fantastic
Had to wait 20 minutes after being seated to be waited on for drinks and to hear the specials. Our server didn’t stop by once our drinks were empty to ask if we wanted anything else, I had to stop them after they walked by 3 times to ask for a another drink.
It was pricy for the quality of service received.
The wine was incredible snd the service was awesome the food was so tasty would definitely love to come back
Dinner food was great and cooked perfectly. Great location. Service was good but a little slow. It is expensive. Wine selection is great for OBX. Overall this was perfect for our 38th anniversary dinner. The staff was very gracious and friendly.
Had an 8:00 reservation. Seated us at 8:30. Entrees were served at 9:50. Not worth the time. Won’t be going back.
Quite possibly the best overall experience and meal I have ever had. It was a business meeting dinner. All were very impressed. From the delightful hostess (a twin!), to the service by Paul our waiter, to the meeting of the new chef who came to our table himself, we were overwhelmed with the greatness of the staff. The food was truly a treat and absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. We especially loved the cheese platter and even bought some locally made honey on our way out.
This return visit to Kimball's Kitchen was wonderful! I have nothing but accolades about the service, menu selection, food quality and presentation. The room itself is stunning, as is the view of the Sound. I only wish Kimball's were closer to where we lived so we could be frequent guests! Thanks Kaitlyn, Robert, Dino and the Chef for making our evening so special. We are already looking forward to our return to what we consider the gem of the Outer Banks!
Not what it used to be, sadly. The view of the Sound, which set the restaurant apart from others, is almost completely obstructed by over grown shrubs. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was not as locally sourced and creative as it used to be. Overall a pleasant experience but probably not worth the high price tag.
Menu had lots of options for various palettes. Appetizer serving sizes were large. Waiter was very knowledgeable and accommodating to dietary requests.
