When we arrived for our October 26th reservation, made and confirmed through Open Table, you had been closed for a week already. We were incredibly surprised and disappointed. Don't know if you or Open Table dropped the ball, but somebody should have their butt kicked.

The maitre d' was unusually friendly and accomodating. The wait staff person -- Jody -- was excellent. We dined there the previous night and also enjoyed the dinner, the ambience, and the service. All told, both nights provided a most pleasant experience in fine dining.
Restaurant did not have a record of our reservation. Made for an unpleasant experience when we arrived. I will not use Open Table again - will call restaurant directly.
We had never been to Kimball's before and were looking for an upscale dining experience for our anniversary. We were not disappointed and would definitely go back again.
What a disappointment! We were looking forward to a fine dining experience but Kimball's missed the mark. We arrived early to enjoy a cocktail at the bar and catch the sunset over the sound. It proved to be the highlight of the evening as it was all downhill from there. It was obvious that the restaurant was understaffed which caused us to be seated 45 minutes after our reservation. The maitre 'd was delivering food and drinks, filling water glasses, etc. The waitress was stressed; the kitchen was backed up. All in all, it made for an unpleasant dining experience. The final aggravation arrived with a bill over $200 for food that was mediocre, service that was severely lacking and a stressful ambiance. The whole evening was a comedy of errors!
Usually Kimball's is the highlight dinner for our trip to the Outer Banks, but not true this time. Service was very slow and our food was only warm at best. I tracked it set on the warmers for 15 minutes. We explained our disappointment to the manager on duty, and in an attempt to compensate desert and a bottle of Champagne was sent to our room at the Sanderling resort for which we are appreciative. We did not complain to receive anything, we just had to speak out and we are normally very tolerable.
On vacation. Our only complaint was that my husband ordered his filet medium & it was well done. He didn’t mention it at the time because there’s not much to be done except cook another steak correctly which would have gotten us completely out of sequence with our meal.ls. Cooking a steak correctly should be a basic skill for a chef, particularly in a high quality restaurant where the steak is $40+.
Hands down, the best dining experience I ever had! The reservation was at 6:15 so we could watch the sunset from the gorgeous sound. We were sat at the fabulous, tall windows with an unobstructed view. The ambiance was warm and soft. We could smell our meals cooking from the open concept kitchen. We ordered the low country shrimp and grits appetizer. Phenomenal. Our dinners were the gulf stream yellow fin tuna and the shrimp and lobster pasta with lump crabmeat. We also shared the shaved truffle mac & cheese and brussel sprouts as appetizers. For dessert, we had tiramisu that came with caramel topped espresso. It was one of those meals that you think about and crave afterwards. However, the best part was the people. Everyone was incredibly warm and welcoming and we enjoyed some laughs with the friendly staff. We will be back and definitely recommend Kimball’s Kitchen.
Excellent service, delicious food.
Great waitress, food, wine list, and space!
The food is truly excellent. Very high quality ingredients and you can tell a lot of care has gone into the preparation. We had filet mignon, lamb chop, the truffle gnocchi and Mac and cheese along with desert. All were superb.
Attentive but unobtrusive service. Gorgeous waterfront location We’ll be back
Kimball's regained favor with us on this visit. We had earlier been disappointed at the turn to being somewhat of a steak house, but we ignored that last week. The service was very good with personable woman helping us, the food was excellent, and as always the sunset view was great. The wine suggestions were very good. It is nice to have a place in Duck that has a dress code and applies it. We will try again in our upcoming spring visit.
Sunset, Food and Cocktails all excellent! We go here at least once or twice every year!
What a disappointment! We have dined at Kimball's many times and this last outing just didn't measure up. Menu has gone steakhouse boring. No seafood tower, no shrimp cocktail, no oysters, etc. We only saw two servers for the entire restaurant. Before dinner martini was marred by an abundance of ice chips. We had to ask for bread. Rib eye was delivered warm, not hot. (same for spouse's) Pureed potatoes were barely warm. Water server came once. No one stopped to ask if our meal was okay or if we needed anything. This is one of the most beautiful rooms on the sound. Too bad the experience didn't match.
Wonderful spot for a 30th anniversary dinner! Thank you Michelle for superb service. The corvina and the duck breast were both outstanding!
Kimball's has more than restored our faith in what has long been one of the very best restaurants in the Outerbanks. The setting has always been stunning and remains so. The service and the food during two visits this past week were outstanding. The food was wonderfully fresh with a very strong local flavour. Without question our dinner on Saturday evening was, for all four of us, the outstanding highlight of yet another wonderful week at the Sanderling - still, by a very long way, the very best way to enjoy the very best that the Outerbanks has to offer.
The only thing I was a little disappointed about was our service. Our server never refilled our water, non-alcoholic, and alcoholic drinks. That’s is one of my pet peeves.
Very romantic spot. They were not quite ready for our reservation so they sat us at the bar which was nice. Bartender could have used a helper. Drink selection was great. For dinner we shared an appetizert, the tomato and burrata, which was plenty for two people and tasty. We had filet mignon which was cooked perfectly. Also had a side of brussel sprouts but wasn't a fan of the fried onions on top. Good wine selection. All and all a very lovely evening!
Great service and food! Wait staff was wonderful
My wife and I had a terrific experience. Both of our entrees were top notch. The loaded twice baked potato that I chose to compliment my filet was a meal in itself. My wife opted for the proscuttio wraped chicken breast. The Parma ham was thick cut and the chicken breast was huge and delicious. The only downside was the dessert. It was just average. Overall a plus meal and venue.
Service was quite slow, particularly for our first round of drinks. Food was delicious! Lovely sunset.
Food was wonderful- great menu. Service was not great- regular staff had not returned after Dorian and backservers had stepped in. Slow service, wine wasn’t served, wrong cutlery etc. will try another time!
We had a absolutely wonderful time. So much so that we brought the whole family back the next night. Our server Paul was incredibly accommodating and made our experience that much better. Would highly recommend the black ink linguine, but every dish looked incredible.
Food was solid. Service was horrible. Waiter was clearly too busy. Bartender was just not that nice. Way over priced for the value.
Amazing food and the sunset view is incredible! Little understaffed during our visit. The staff though a great; friendly, knowledgeable, and hard working. Food is not cheap but you get what you pay for....great food in great atmosphere!
Excellent somolier - very helpful and willing to share knowledge.
We have lived on the Outer Banks for approximately 4 years and this was our first time at Kimball's Kitchen. Without a doubt the best meal we have had. That's saying a lot since we go out 3-4 times a week. The attentiveness of the staff was superb. Dinosaurs and his staff work extremely hard to make your experience remarkable.
It’s an good upscale restaurant for obx. The food and service were very good. The soup and appetizer were deliciousness have the soup and watermelon salad. Everything was fresh and served well.
Excellent in every way romantic sunsets great food professional friendly service
A little pricey but beautiful setting and great food!
The ambiance and the view of the sound was stunning. We had a great waiter. The food was good. We would certainly go again.
Fantastic dining experience - wine list unique and comprehensive
Food is good but not spectacular - especially for the price. Local is terrific and maybe that's what you pay mostly for. I had steak, partner rockfish - they were very good but not inventive in any way. Related items - my m. potatoes were lukewarm at best. Main side dish arrived near the end of dinner so was largely useless. Again, it good, just not at that price which is `20% more than Blue Point and about the same or lesser quality.
Other then our waitress, who was cold and inattentive, we enjoyed our evening here on Friday night. I’m hoping she just had an off night. The ambiance is lovely. Perfect for date night.
The food, service, space, and views were all amazing.
Our server Sara recommended the lamb with truffles and chimichurri that was perfect in every way. We watched the sun set through the huge windows as we enjoyed our meal. Our visit was a highlight of our vacation. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a special evening in Duck.
We had reserved Kimball's for a special birthday dinner. Unfortunately though the dining room was pleasant and open to sound views the level of fine dinning was compromised. Waiter checked on our meal while holding a pile of dirty plates. Waiter carried out martinis spilling them as he rushed through the dining room. However the food was very good. The She-crab soup was delicious and the salad fresh with delicate croutons that absorbed the sweet and tart dressing. The duck breast was prepared rare as requested, but the skin was not crispy and begging to be trimmed. The squid ink pasta was undercooked but the shrimp and lobster topping for the dish was generous and delicious.
The wine list is in disarray. My first two requests could not be found. Third selection was chosen solely because it was available. It was not good. Other than the wine, it was an excellent meal and evening.
The finest restaurant in the outer banks of NC
